Knicks · Coach of the Year (page 1)

I voted for Woody because I am a bit of a homer but George Karl has been a miracle worker he has a good shot too.
CashMoney @ 4/14/2013 10:46 PM
Woody! 53 wins, #2 seed with a team held together by duct tape for most of the season.
ChuckBuck @ 4/15/2013 12:24 AM
I would have voted for Tom Thibideau if he had more wins and somehow grabbed the 2 or 3 seed. No coach does more with less.

That said, out of the choices, only Woodson was able to wring out a #2 seed and homecourt in the playoffs with an ever changing roster the whole season.

Woody's the pick for me.

NumberTwoPencil @ 4/15/2013 2:53 AM
Popovitch, of course, is probably the coach who contributes the most wins to his team . . . and Woodson gets points for degree of difficulty . . . but I voted for the rookie, Jackson, because he's starting rookies (Barnes, 79 games; Ezeli, 40), juggling as many injuries (Rush, Bogut, Jack, Curry, Biedrins) as most teams, and his players are generally getting better.
IronWillGiroud @ 4/15/2013 4:55 AM
Karl

And most of the league though we would crash and burn long before reaching 50wins. They said our good start was a mirage and many said the Nets would win our division hahahaha. Love this team, always have and I will continue to take the good with the bad.

This is my reason for Karl:

he does not have a superstar,

to my mind, Woodson cannot win coach of year because he has a superstar,

teams with superstars HAVE to win 50 games, at least, this is the minimum,

but Karl took a team of rag tag role players and made them into something like 54 or 55 game winners in the WESTERN conference, not even the Eastern,

at the same time, i am rooting for Woody, but i don't think he has a shot

VCoug @ 4/15/2013 8:51 AM
Had to go with Mark Jackson. I thought that team was garbage going into the season, like, one of the 10 worst teams in the league. Instead, they've won 45 games, are tied for the 6th best record in the West, and the 10th best record in the league. And this is after finishing 3rd worst in the West and 7th worst in the league a year ago with a 23-43 record.

Mark Jackson has a crap load of talent on that team, even with Steph Curry missing time early in the season. He didn't have to manage anywhere close to the injuries and issues Woodson had to go through. Every week it seems Woody had to mix and match just to put enough healthy to somewhat healthy bodies on the floor.

SupremeCommander @ 4/15/2013 9:21 AM
I voted Woody. I'd say Mark Jackson if I'm n ot allowed to pick someone from within the Knicks organization. But I do honestly believe it's Woody when you consider the Knicks record and the injuries the team has faced this year
knickscity @ 4/15/2013 9:24 AM
Pop or Woody, matter of fact they should share this one.

Both coaches had to go through a ridiculous amount of injuries.

Andrew Bogut played 31 games and Brandon Rush played 2 games. As many injuries as we've had this year Melo, Tyson, and JR played 67, 66, and 80 games. The only players who've missed real, extended time are Amare, Camby, Thomas, and Sheed none of whom are critical to our success.

And again, the Warriors had a .348 winning percentage last season and are currently sitting at .543, that ain't nothin'.

the Warriors have been losers for so long though that Jackson has to get credit for getting everyone believing they have what it takes. I agree they had/have talent but A Bronx Tale kind of made the wasted talent argument already

matt @ 4/15/2013 9:49 AM
Despite the obvious bias, nobody thought the Knicks would win the division or get the 2 seed. Not a single "expert." Woodson smashed the predictions
Nalod @ 4/15/2013 9:58 AM

Steph Curry played a season and showed what he can do. Not taking anything away from the Warriors and the job Jax did, just think there are better choices.

Credit the coach and when you have good players that actually play it helps!

Thibs should get credit. Is there another coach that could have done a better job with the reconstruction of his bench and losing a former MVP in his prime and still making the playoffs as a 5th seed? Hell of a job!

Not sure why spolestra is not on the list. .800 winning %, 64 wins with 2 to go. Since its the regular season and they have done that and had the second longest winning streak in the history of the game, I think consideration should be heavy and would be my pick. They have the best record in the NBA. To me the streak puts him over the top.

"but they are stacked"!!!!! Yes, good teams generally have really good rosters. We have seen good rosters fall way short too.

I think Woodson deserves consideration with the others mentioned. Woody did a great job this year.

I'd go Spolestra, Karl, Woodson, Pop as my top picks. Brooks deserves to be there also but I just don't know where. I think Karl did more with less than any other coach but Spolestra gets it because he coached a team that had the most wins.

Relax playa2, the playoffs don't count!

Interesting the way they pick them.

How PJax only one once! Riles wins 3 times with three different teams!

I'd probably have to go with George Karl but to be honest Kevin McHale should be a loud, heavy, strong...candidate to win. Many thought they wouldn't make the playoffs yet potentially grab a 6th seed.

My reasons for Karl are very simple....

vs OKC = 3-1
vs Spurs = 2-2
vs Clippers 2-1
vs Grizzlies 3-1
vs GSW 3-1
vs Rockets 4-0
vs Lakers 3-1

That's their record against teams in the Playoffs from the Western Conference....DUH WINNING!!!!!!

simrud @ 4/15/2013 10:35 AM
Thibs should get it imo. He is working with smoke and mirrors over there in Chitown this year. Guy should have never been allowed to leave NY - he made the defensive system that JVG got all the credit for. Shame he was not hired in NY at some point instead of several big names along the way. I mean seriously, his best offensive players (the healthy ones) are Boozer and Deng - how do they ever manage to score is a wonder and their defense is fantastic.

I think when Sheed was playing the Knicks were 16-4. I would say that having front court depth is critical to having more success for the Knicks.

And he was playing 15mpg. I honestly don't believe that he had much of an affect on the court. And we would've had more front court depth had we cut some of our dead weight and signed Kenyon Martin earlier in the season; Woodson must have some say in personnel decisions and has to shoulder at least some of the blame for that decision.

gunsnewing @ 4/15/2013 11:02 AM
Voted for Woodson because of Knicks biase but I think Karl gets it cos they have a better record and iut west and without a true superstar. Still think the knicks are better built for a longer playoff run tho
