SAS says Lakers will go after LeBron and/or Melo when they opt out..They believe they have at 50% chance of getting one of them..
I know which player I hope they go for
This is another example of espn trying to make the Knicks look bad. File this with:
Knicks don't have enough to get Melo then they gave up too much
Nyets will win the Atlantic divisin last yr.
Jeremy Lin Goes from league story to cant play/wont play at 85% to Knicks need Felton
No way Melo will give up 30 mil to sign anywhere else. One thing that holds true is that melo loves getting every penny he can get his hands on, this time it will benefit us.
Anyone who thinks that Melo will leave the Knicks for the Lakers for less money with D'Antoni coaching is dreaming...

The only team that could get melo to leave us is whatever team that Massi Ujiri guy is GM of. This dude loves to kill the Knicks in trades. We would probably give up a few 1st round draft picks to cover the money melo would leave to join the raptors. We will also give them money in trade to cover melos flight costs between America and Canada. Ok, that was my bad attempt at a joke to hide my hurt about losing trades to that guy.
Good Point about MDA. That is not happening. If Kobe wants to play 3 more years, its not with Melo. Melo not giving up money is also a good point.
Seems like their business and life is east coast. Just from what I see, I don't know shyt about them.
Lebron if Clev leaves space for him I can see him going back with a rebooted franchise and with the talent they collecting a serious run.
Lakers like the knicks will always make for speculation.
I respect what Boston is attempting I will take some time but they full out committed!

Perhaps LA plans to try an S & T (and doesn't care about keeping MDA).

Benefit is such a judgmental word, I prefer impact. Agree with the rest of your post though.
This is not news so many teams are going to go after them.
So we bring Melo back at $25-$30mil per instead of $17mil per to keep him from leaving and the Knicks supporting cast gets worse. KOOL
The day D Howard announced he was signing with Hou, I had told a friend of mine that the Lakers will make a run at Melo. Kobe and Melo seem to be pretty tight, that has to factor in. Plus, what will our team look like in a couple of years with Stat continuing to break down and Chandler probably on his way out? I def think its possible....
There is absolutely no advantage to Melo leaving NY for LA. He would be leaving money on the table, his home, and the place he put so much effort in trying to get to. He is NY, and this is his team.

So can I start getting my hopes up?

If that was the plan they would've kept Dwight and fired dantoni

I'm sure they wanted to keep Dwight
Well now I won't start a thread on this as there isn't a need so in this thread I'll say this
Isn't it a great warm and fuzzy feeling, now that we are the Denver Nuggets at the beginning of 2010-2011 essentially? Aren't we gonna love reading the chatter and constant media speculation of Melo's and Lakers distant love for each other? What makes this even more special neither team has nothing to offer by way of S&T so if Melo leaves, he's simply leaving. I wonder if he'll be quiet the whole time if he decides not to stay? I wonder how he feels about money now over winning, after winning a scoring title?
I noticed Melo has been very quiet too. Melo lives in L.A. in the off-season. Kobe started early with openly recruiting endorsing him to L.A. He would also without question allow Melo to have L.A. to his desire unlike Dwight. This is going to reach unconscious levels and all I can say I don't enjoy being in this predicament.
I also find it very ironic we give Melo all the power in the world over his contract but we locked Amar'e into his, leaving us powerless as a franchise. We should have given both of them no opt outs or opt outs... not one the other and the other different. I sweat we can never do anything right.

If Amare didn't come to the knicks what other player with a big name was in in a position to come to NY ?
AMARE CAME BECAUSE OF THE GUARANTEED MONEY KNOWING HE HAS BAD WHEELS. If he didn't come Melo wouldn't have either.

1)This story is nothing new...
2) Melo won't turn down the extra money, went through all the trouble forcing his way to NY, claims he identifies as a Brooklyn guy, loves the spotlight of New York City and is settled in here, probably won't have another star in LA (Kobe is gone in like a year or two, he might not even be the same now), and Melo hates MDA- likes that Woodson lets him iso all day
3) This is Ny, if Melo leaves we'll just overpay for another "superstar talent"
4) A good portion of the fan base wouldn't care if he left anyway unless we make noise next postseason, which seems unlikely at this moment in time
Not really like the Denver situation...

It has some similarities...I can already see Melo toasting with Kobe on a boat somewhere in Santa Monica envisioning what it would be like to play there but telling Kobe he loves New York, maybe even try and talk Kobe into coming here. Nevertheless Kobe has clout with Melo, major clout. Kobe is a master manipulator too, oh and there is a potential Phi Jackson factor looming.
I think Melo is a fickle dude and don't really trust his judgement or character
One thing I wouldn't be doing as a fan is putting all my trust in his heart, because it leaves yours open to be shattered/broken
Would suck to send Denver a pick for a player that bolted via opt out.
Its the knicks, its the NBA in the new CBA and it like the NFL, just seems like one has to take it year by year and see how it goes.
Stay competitive and hope the team is built to sustain a playoff run.
