Morey seems to have a great eye for talent or/and great scouts
I am even interested in players that they have let go from Greg Smith, Aaron Brooks, to Jordan Hendricks
Must admit all steals in Chandler Parsons (2nd round), Terrence Jones (took 1 year to develop), and the development of Patrick Beverely
He turned the expiring of Jared Jeffries, our 1st rounder, Jordan Hill into a Laker's 1st rounder, and a swap (that didn't go through)
Essentially getting 2 1st rounder's for absorbing JJ's one year 5-6m deal

He didn't keep Dragic or Lowry but acquired them at cheap deals, also acquiring one of the TOP Euro's at G/F from Portland which Grunweld drafted a couple years back
He acquired Dragic and Lowry at minimum prices while selling Camby and Courtney Lee for 2 2nd rounders each
Though Dragic and Lowry are both >>> than Lin, it was a move for generating a fan base till they acquired 2 ALL STAR's in Harden and then D12 AFTER
Yes he made another mistake in a 1st rounder for White but he has formed a strong nucleus of young talents and they own ALL of their own picks, in addition to many future picks of other teams

Will they STARPHUQ for Melo?
I don't know but if they lose, it certainly would increase our chances unless they find trading partners that would take Lin/Asik for trade exemptions as expirings
Otherwise, it would make sense for both Melo and Phil Jackson to work a deal out

They still get the MLE to add even more talents and vet min's will go to Houston because of the STATE tax in both Texas and Florida to their advantage of higher % of winning a ring than most teams
Part of the reason why I think Melo would certainly strongly consider Houston, with the ability to compete for a ring, with ALL STAR's, and Role players/defenders/shooters/ball handlers to compliment him
Houston just needs to give the same treatment that they gave D12 but with the addition of D12 and free work outs with Hakeem, CA's interest would be higher
Only other team could be the Heat with Lebron, Wade, and Bosh being good friends with the warm weather

The Rockets have been brilliant in their use of the dleague. They had Daniels with their dleague team all year and then signed him and brought him up. They had Canaan on their dleague team also so he wasn't just sitting on the bench waiting for Brooks to be traded. I am hoping the Knicks use their new dl team the right way. Daniels was one of the three players that you can designate for your team from training camp, not the property of the rockets. The Knicks next year theoretically could have 5 guys that they are developing over at the county center right out of training camp. Kudos to the rockets.

They have a great D-League team. Surprising not a lot of teams are using their model.

The rockets are in danger of being beaten in the first round!

great question. I guess if you have a big enough sample size. Rockets has had a slew of players that played in their D-League team that is succesful in the NBA.

My take is WCF is not the barometer to use for good use of D-League, better we measure the talent and growth of talent for those coming out of your D-league team.

Houston fans in clutchfans.net are clamoring for Melo. They want to send Asik, Lin, Parsons and 1st Round picks for Melo. They are really hating on Lin right now.

They sound like us, and most others when things go wrong. Get mad, find blame, then think they have the answer, then complain about trades they should have made......

Parsons is not a listed stock, certainly to followed the fans emotion and trade after a bad game/series would not be the good math of a successful GM or team.

Believe it or not teams know their roster problems. They just won't talk about it.

NBA and the CBA is different now and parity is taking hold. Sure they were the 4th seed but now in playoff time its about matchups.

Rockets began their rebuld with Lin and Asik but found Harden, got a nice prize in Parsons and then wooed Dwight. Lin and Asik eat big cap and are not good fits. Rockets were fortunate to get Harden, Parsons and Dwight.

They need back court help. In fact, every team has roster gaps, there are not great teams in the NBA. Spurs were the best and have the most balance but have some age on them. Memphis filled a big gap with Miller and is healthy. Warriors are just not as good as Clippers and miss a healthy Bogot.

If Melo is the answer what is the question?

Melo, Felton and jr for parsons, Asik, Lin and 2 first round picks.

I love melo, but if he opts out we need to seriously think about the future.

Asik and Lin would come off the books on 2015 (can someone consign that) and pardon is awesome and the first round picks are money.

Sounds crazy, but Lin, stat, bargs, chandler, Asik is not a bad starting 5. We still have shump and hardaway and parsons (who could easily be a starter).

And come 2015 we have a ton of cap space with Asik, Lin, chandler and bargs coming off the books.

Agreed. You can't fly off the handle after one playoff series. No one could've predicted the series LaMarcus Aldridge has had and all of the games have been close. Adding Melo won't improve the coaching and it definitely won't improve Houston's defense at the power forward and shooting guard slots. That said, GMs aren't immune to the perception of the fans or ownership. Donnie Walsh can tell you that. Let's see how patient Morey is after his team gets bounced out of the first round.

Love that you omitted Bargs in your starting 5, but yes....this would be the move to make for us if Melo wants out.

I said this the other day -- if they get bounced in the 1st round by Portland (looks likely at this point), their season is a failure, ending that abruptly. Same deal with the Bulls who look like they're on their way out as well in similar fashion (the Rockets and Bulls were each favored to win their series). Those two teams most likely will be looking to lick their wounds, re-tool and improve as fast as possible. This bodes extremely well for us I would think. Two teams that very well may want Melo bad enough to make that big a splash to get him after a failed post-season. Both teams also would still have plenty of star power still in place, even after a deal for Anthony. It'd be logical for them to feel that adding Melo to what they'd have in place is the way to go (a hopefully healed D-Rose, Noah etc. for Chicago; Harden, D12 etc. for Houston). Each team already has a ton invested in high-salary talent, esp. Houston. You would think a trade for Melo would be a worthwhile move for either club, going that extra step toward winning a title.. Each team has the resources to trade for him. Here's hoping these 2 teams lose one more game and do get bounced -- only bodes well for us. We need to force direct competition between these two interested teams -- then maybe get the Lakers involved too. Maybe one more mystery team enters the mix as well...Now that's 3-4 teams competing against one another. That kind of competition should only drive the price up in our favor. IF IT'S CLEAR MELO'S DONE IN NY (big 'if' - no one's sure yet, prob. not even Melo.. The man ABSOLUTELY needs to be traded for suitable assets in exchange if it becomes clear he's gone.

Unrelated to all things Melo (or maybe not, maybe New Orleans enters the mix for Melo when the time comes, who knows? Teaming him up with Anthony Davis and some of their other young players could be an option worth exploring) -- a real shrewd move would be to go after Luke Babbitt from New Orleans. With a real commitment from someone, I think this guy could be as good a player as Chandler Parsons, maybe even better in the long run..and I like Parsons.

Whether we keep Melo or not, I really like a lot of the ancillary talent New Orleans has on hand, specifically Babbitt, Alexis Ajinca, Jeff Withey and Pierre Jackson. If we could ever bring back some of this talent along with a Tyreke Evans (or perhaps one of their other high-salary guards, depending on the deal), that could go a long way in strengthening/bolstering our lineup for next year and beyond.

There is no way that Houston makes that deal. They won't take Felton and JR (nor does it match salary cap wise) and we will be lucky if we get just one of their picks.
