Were there legacy implications when Garnett got dealt? When Barkley got dealt? When Chamberlain got dealt? When Paul Pierce got dealt? When Shaq got dealt (multiple times)? I don't see how the getting traded or what you're traded for can impact your legacy. All that matters is winning and Kobe wins when give a realistic opportunity to.

That's all there is to it. All this legacy stuff is cartoonish.

What would it do for kobe legacy to waste the last good Years of his career playing 21 against nba talent.

Wanna talk legacy?

Phil is in NY....he put his reputation in the line to fix the Knicks. A losing miserable franchise.

Why not get Kobe?

Kobe could retire tomorrow and would end one of the greatest careers in nba history. He's still got something left and is very aware of his legacy. You think he doesn't know what it would mean for him alone to get ny is first championship in 40 years? He becomes immortal. Bigger than Jordan, Shaq and whoever he's compared to. King of LA and King of Ny? That's Plays into his narcissistic mentality.

Straight up, if the Knicks get Kobe, we win this year and possibly next year.

F500ONE @ 11/3/2014 1:11 PM
I remember the days IT made the statement

We had the best package to offer if Kobe wanted to leave L.A.

What inception stage level are at on this 10yr Kobe dream

EXACTLY. People are allowing their personal feelings about Kobe Bryant the person, cloud their judgement of Kobe Bryant the player. I don't know how you can get around the fact that the man can ball. If all you're asking him to be is Melo's no.2, I could see him playing good basketball for another 3-4 seasons ala Reggie Miller. And to be perfectly honest, I think he becomes a Knick in spite of what he's saying. Kobe's become far more the politician in recent years and understands that if he makes it known that he wants off the Lakers, it'll tarnish his legacy and won't have enough time to repair it, like he would've in 2007. So he'll bide his time and allow the Lakers to become devastatingly awful, at which time the Lakers organization can move him and portray it as an attempt to give their younger players an opportunity to develop. This way, everyone walks away looking good: LA gets their TV ratings early on in the season, while retaining their top 5 protected pick in the draft and Kobe gets a few more runs at an NBA title.

Garnett hadn't won sheehit, Barkley never won sheehit, Chamberlain's legacy consisted of being Bill Russell's perennial buttboy, Pierce? WTF does Pierce getting sent to Brooklyn have to do with anything? Shaq was a full blown clown by the time he landed in Boston, after achieving nothing with the best PG on the planet and then the best player on the planet.

Kobe has the most in common with DRose at this point in his career. Lots of money for very little playing time. Phil could get Marc Gasol, and another big name, and it won't mean nothing because Kobe will be watching most of it in a really, really nice suit.

And the man's ego is the size of Alaska. Do you really see him even contemplating being Melo's (yeah, the guy with no rings) #2?

"Hi, I'm Kobe and I'm happy to be here in NYC representing Sprite as Melo's best little friend..."

I like the idea, but Kobe and instant chip ain't happening.

Nalod @ 11/4/2014 10:28 AM
"Smoldering"???

I thought Kobe would have landed in Brooklyn last year instead of Pierce and Garnett but some things are about timing.

Eny, I get your point but Kobe at 38 is not Kobe at 28 and while even at his age and fragility he would do much better going to a team on the verge of contending and in need of an alpha but to shoehorn that contract on such a team is nearly impossible without breaking it up. While Kobe to NY can work financially its Kobe and Melo and little else. Personally it would be fun to watch if Kobe don't break first.

Kobe's legacy is pretty set regardless of what happens his last two years. Jordan's Wizard tenure is largely forgotten. We don't remember Ewing in Orlando or Seattle. Barkley had a nice run in Phoenix and Houston. Wilt took a step back and succeeded in Los Angeles. Wilt was on two of the greatest teams of all time. The 1967 76ers and the 1972 Lakers are two of the best outside the Celtics. Lakers went to the finals 3 times in 4 years against the knicks!!!!

For me, its not the size of Kobe's ego, its the size of his contract. How you build with Melo financially with Kobe I just don't see it.

lol @ him telling Carmelo and Lin essentially the same thing

Basically be selfish

"It is hard, from a psychological perspective as a player, you don't want to get too frustrated about things that you can't control," Bryant said. "You have to find that balance. At the same time, it is important for the organization to understand the level of competitiveness that you have, that you won't tolerate having a team that is not in contention for an NBA championship, which is what I did. It rubbed a lot of people the wrong way but sometimes you got to kick down a few doors and piss some people off and trust that it will pay off in the long run. If you are willing to do that, more times than not, you will be OK."

And this is exactly how he plays the game of basketball

Now on to Lin

Kobe said he's trying to get his teammates, Jeremy Lin in particular, "used to playing with that F-it attitude."

So piss everyone off Kobe style you mean like

Like eff yo playbook Scott

Kobe eff yo 5 chips

Eff this Lakers winning tradition

Eff the Buss's, I'm going Poison Pill on Em

Do It Lin I Dare You!

PassTheBall @ 11/5/2014 3:20 PM
The lakers might lose every game this season and break Kobe in the process. They must do something...

There are many guys in the d-league better than most of the roster.

Amare straight up. Or bargs and jr

Kobe is a psycho. Having him would bomb this team back into the stone age.

Kobe + Melo on the floor at the same time would be like watching an epic girl fight over who gets to flirt with the cute guy at the party.

Kobe, Nick Young and Josh Smith to Knicks

Amare and Langston Galloway to LA

Bargs, Calderon to Detroit

No. Why?

Think about how athletic we would be.

And Kobe has rings.

Kobe at PG
JR at SG
Nick Young at SG
Melo at PF
Josh Smith at C

Nobody would stop us.

Kobe has rings. That does not mean if he comes to the knicks they follow him.

rings are past tense.

Also, Any trade for Kobe will require players LEAVING the knicks. We'd be thinned out on talant to contend.
Lakers will want rebuilding assets. We are a bit short on picks ourselves nor have any blue chippers to offer.

Conclusion: Trade for Kobe is not logical.
