Boy what can you say about Shumpert--this is not a 3 game stretch--hes played good in every game and its on both ends.
IF THJ can stay aggressive and take the ball to the hoop to go along with his OS shooting than he should be able to command the 30 minutes. He really needs to focus on playing hard and smart all over the court.
People made fun of him working on his game during local chicago summer tournaments and schooling locals but ita paid off for him. Health, quickness, handle & shot.
He's been the hardest working/most prideful Knick since day 1

I don't think that this is him turning over a new leaf at all. I'd move him ASAP before the bottom falls out. Wouldn't want to re-sign him to big dollars based on just one good season and have him turn into Landry Fields.

It's the reason why there is such a complete disregard for lottery picks by the Knicks and their fans. They expect lebron like success from day one.
It doesn't work that way. You have to groom your skilled young players. Best part if you get to do it while they are on their rookie contracts so if they pan out GREAT if not they didn't hurt your cap space.
The team is already wishing they picked up his 4 million option, cause he is playing at over double that level now. At least he is restricted, unlike Larkin.
I wonder if they try to move Hardaway though if a decent offer comes up - purely cause of his lack of defense. I'd keep the kid if possible (if we can get defenders around him.)

And many more have been unmitigated disasters like Toney Douglas, Frank Williams, Mike Sweetney, etc. A few consecutive good games that occur during a throw away season doesn't change the fact that Shump has teetered between being mediocre and downright awful for the rest of his career. He's not someone I'd commit to long-term.

As for David Lee, he consistently produced when given the opportunity and demonstrated that he was a walking double-double. That trait is a rare quality! Shumpert, on the other hand, is a dime a dozen player. The Suns basically got him in Gerald Green from the D-League. The Spurs got their version of Shumpert in Danny Green from the same place. So why am I suppose to be enthralled with Iman? Because he's managed to string together 10 good games in a 4 season career?

Rhetoric isn't going to work here. If you haven't noticed, every other thread I've posted has endorsed the Knicks tanking in order to get a top tier lo
ttery pick. I was even one of the guys who endorsed sign and trading Melo so that we could rebuild. My problem isn't that I hate draft picks or that I'm impatient.
My issue is that I've watched this game long enough to not be enthralled with 10 games of anything. Jeremy Lin had himself 10 or so good games and he's a bench player on any team worth a damn and still, Shumpert was no Lin. Signing Shumpert to a long term deal is a huge mistake and since he'll be getting offers this offseason, its best to move him now when we can still get assets for him.

I am hoping Shump has become the player he has been so far this season. However, that first impression is based on three years of watching him.

lets hope shumpert doesnt get hurt again, as that's always been his problem. glad to see him working hard on his game and improving.

there are some guys here who really dislike certain players on the roster. So they "decide" to follow and fall blindly in love with some guy on the roster who isnt one of those guys. We saw it early with Quincy. Now its Shumpert.
Shump is having a great start to the season shooting the ball. Everything else is pretty much status quo. To me the bottom line is this:
Is Shumpert part of the future?
Well lets play out the scenarios shall we?
If he sustains this level of shooting (I say this is impossible) or close to it what will his cost be? Say he levels off at 48% shooting and 40% from 3. He puts up 14ppg, 4asst, 5rebs and plays excellent defense and doesnt get hurt. Coming off a career year at 25 years old he will certainly shoot for $6-$7mm a year to start at the very minimum. Maybe 5 years $38mm? something in the Ariza territory?
So if we are clearing every penny of cap space so we add some high caliber impact talent do we want to use a chunk of that space on Shump? Does that seem like a good move?
Or....
He falls back to earth, ends up shooting in the low 40s (he was a career 39% shooter coming into this year) and probably gets hurt at some point, misses 5-6 weeks and takes another 4 to get back into "game shape" what do we do then? Extend him the QO and bring him back for $4mm?
Part of the reason the Knicks have such a bare cubbard is they NEVER SELL HIGH.
I have never seen a better time to pump and dump Shump. How long before he falls back to earth?
