Knicks · So Are Jose and Iman Myths? (page 3)

Giving the greenlight he is given by fisher, this dude really should be called on for more points and rebounds. He is by far the only guard who has gotten consistent minutes under Fisher
He went south long before Jose returned -- go back and check -- Iman's play has nothing to do with Jose and everything to do with Iman being bad at basketball.

One guy is an 11 year pro who is a member of the 50-40-90 club and he starts off the year hurt and now he is a myth because he got hurt at the start of the season?Calderon is absolutely a difference maker but the problem is we need him to be our 2nd best player and that shouldn't be the case. But he's a great role player.
He is older dude -- Dallas actually played him off the ball quite a bit because he no longer is a threat to get to the rim. He's almost a one-trick pony at this point -- meaning if you get up on him (ala Novak) he is no longer able/wanting to consistently take you off the dribble and hurt you.
I'm not saying he is Novak -- I'm saying he's not the same player he was 2 to 3 years ago.
This acquisition reminds me of Knicks picking up Harper/Blackmon/Cheeks/Westphal/Kiki late in their careers -- Harper was productive but the rest were shot. Here's hoping Jose has something left in the tank for the next 2 to 3 years.

Calderon is struggling to shoot the ball just like THJR mainly because of the spacing on the floor.

Yes. This is true.
Do you know why?
Because our fukkers who handle the ball most of the time hate to pass with a passion.
Amare and Melo both despise passing. You need to pass out of the post as the defenders begins to commit, not when they already stole your wallet.

Carmelo is making the effort to pass the ball to the open shooters; however the same can't be said for Amar'E

True, Amare is the greater offender. He's like a dog who gets the bone. Once he's got it, its his. Melo is more like a coma victim lapsing in and out of consciousness. When he wakes up, he leaps out of bed and whips you a nice crisp pass and then he crawls back under the covers again.

Not really. He passes only when (in his mind) he believes he can't get his shot off so he will be forced to pass. How often does he pass off his turn around mid range jumper for a better shot? He misses these passes constantly because he does not believe that if he can get his shot off than there can possibly be a better shot than his.

Carmelo only played one game with Calderon; you have to give him at least a couple of games to get acquainted. The other players he played with simply are not making shots. I much rather he takes the open jumper then passing the rock to JR or Larkin or Dalembert.

It's a shame especially since Melo is quite effective as a rhythm shooter who participates in passing the rock quickly. Whenever they do this, it usually leads to easy shots for the whole team. They did it very early in the season briefly and even had a few excellent first quarters (before devolving into pond scum the rest of the game) where they zipped the ball and found the open man.
But Melo just stops doing it and you're not going to get the rest of the team to do it if he doesn't. It is fundamental and the old excuse of lack of talent is irrelevant when you are inefficient with what you've got. If Melo is inefficient now, he can be just as inefficient with better players too. This is not news. This small thing called leadership is played out on the court, not in press conferences and Melo keeps failing to lead by example. If he doesn't prioritize passing, he's just another schmuck on a losing team.

maybe they would start making shots if he passed them the damn ball more often.
I am done with that excuse. Good players get assists on really bad teams. Prigs is one of the best shooters in the league. He misses him all the time. JR is a great shooter (assisted). THJ when he is on should get the ball when he is opened. Pass the damn ball and stop the narcissism. I play with these types of players all the time and they never get it. They feel too empowered.
Okay ... now its savior jose's turn.

I have commented numerous times on Melo's loaded first half/quarter assists compared to second half assists.
You are spot on with his early game passing.
I would love to find some data on this.

He was passing more early but he was missing his shots then he met with Phil and Phil told him to be himself. We haven't seen the triangle since. Probably never will. Just going to have to add talent
