Knicks · Derrick Williams UFA (page 1)

He could be had cheap maybe 1.5-2mm X 2 years.
fishmike @ 6/30/2015 3:53 PM
Cadillac?
fishmike @ 6/30/2015 3:54 PM
or is it hotrod... I cant never get them straight...
NYY1NYK2 @ 6/30/2015 3:56 PM
no thanks...pass

He might be better of in Europe for a year or two. Williams needs to find one skill that he can apply on an NBA level. All he has to offer right now is athleticism. That's nice for garbage time highlight dunks, but there are a ton of guys out there that can provide that.
Nalod @ 6/30/2015 4:08 PM
Derrick "Edsel" Williams........

The key that most of you miss is not what a player did last year, but what can he do going forward.

Affalo had a bad season but do most of you know why? (I don't). Was it an injury? Personal? Wrong system?
So the key is to buy low and sell high.

Now its easy to find a player who is breaking out, and easy to pay him a lot of money. What we have here is the need to find players that will exceed their current value.

Is Derrik Williams worth his own thread when there are others available? LIkely not. Are we only bringing him up becuase he was a high draft pick?
could a guy like this thrive in the triangle?

He actually played very well with PT the last 20+ games. He has a 3 ball game can handle rebound plays hard. This is what Deammare Carroll looked like before he moved up in status.

crzymdups @ 6/30/2015 4:15 PM
I would take a flier on him, depending how our other moves pan out.

If Melo gets injured again, we have absolutely zero depth at SF.

WaltLongmire @ 6/30/2015 4:24 PM
Should be quite inexpensive, I would think.

Have to let the top brass see if he's worth it based on the kind of player they want on the team going forward.

Biyombo has also become a UFA.

That draft also included Kanter and Vesely in the top 6, and Fredette at 10.

...Mistakes were made.

He did play better during the second half of the season. But that's a small sample size. I would still pass. At the very least, I'd wait until summer league ended. What do you think about the idea of bringing Chris Copeland back?

I like Williams better. Its hard to average 17-7 over 20 games in the NBA. If you watch him he can pass rebound defend. We cant spend 10mm on everyone we cant spend 4mm on everyone--there has to be some vets who make 1-2mm

Nope, Cadillac Williams was on my Bucs. Was offensive Rookie of the year, set a rookie record for 3 straight 100yd plus games to start career, blew out both knees, now he sells insurance. Should of won comeback player of the year but was robbed by golden boy Tom Brady.

Not sure Copeland has the discipline to play on this team. How did Indiana fans feel about him? Were they upset with the chucking he did?

He seemed to be a good fit with the Woodson Knicks, wonder which team he latches on to now?

i don't expect Copeland to cost that much. Williams averaged 15 and 4 over his last 9 games and about 11 and 3 over his 30 games. I'm not convinced he turned corner, but at least he upped his three point shooting during that stretch. I'm not sure he's better than Quincey Acey, but I guess anything would be better than what Early gave us last year. I have no problems if the Knicks want to take on another project. I'd still want them to explore other options before settling on Williams.

Why do kings fans fellowship so much. When I was last on their he was in every single trade idea

from a recent article i read (all anti-defense team, lol),

"Derrick Williams, Sacramento. Picked 2nd overall in 2012 and now he probably shouldn’t be in this league any more Just an astonishingly bad player."

How about Chandler instead??
BRIGGS @ 6/30/2015 7:52 PM
A guy like Williams for the cost--maybe even the vets minimum--could be a very smart move for team depth. The bottom line is he can play 3-4 and was coming on last year--he plays hard and hes skilled. He can shoot it and he should continue to improve. the guy is 6-8 240 so hes good-size as well.
