First question--If Melo keeps playing the way he's playing now and the Knicks make the playoffs as a 7th or 8th seed or whatever seed can Melo win the MVP??
Second question--With all the hype around Lance Thomas these days and not only from fans/writers but now it's coming from other coaches around the league, has he priced himself out of what we can afford since Phil is most likely looking to spend the 20 or so million we'll have on one significant player??
My answer to the first question is that i absolutely think he can win the MVP if we make the playoffs as long as the voting is on what the players do in the regular season and not what they do for their teams in the playoffs which i think is how it goes a lot of times if not all the time.
My answer to the second question is i don't know how it works with the cap cause i know that teams can go over the cap on certain players sometimes without it effecting the cap but again i'm not too sure how that works so maybe someone that does can post some answers on that for me, but i hope to god we don't lose him cause he brings soooooooo much to this team not only on the court but in the locker room and on the bench.
1. Melo can't win MVP - no way! Curry by a landslide and even Dray is before melo. Melo can be top 5 if his shooting picks up and he continues the passing and defense.
2. Hopefully phil can convince LT that the triangle is what makes him stand out.

No Steph Curry is way better.
Lance Thomas will get 3-7mm per depending on how he finishes the season. Hes in his prime--you keep him. Losing Shveyd possibly has made the difference between deep playoff possibility and just playoff possibility
1. nope, but Phil can win Exec of the year and Fisher is in the discussion for coach of the year, and KP def rookie of the year.
2. LT isn't going anywhere, he'll command $4 mill money...OAQ money...he is fundamentally sound, but i suspect playoff basketball could find him being neutralized, where a Derek williams can leverage his athleticism to succeed... I think LT Stays though, we are building something and Phil and Fish know his value.
Other questions:
- Does Pau opt out and come to the knicks?
1)No. Team Record + Exemplary stats = MVP. Even if Melo has an incredible 2nd half of the season, the team won't win around 70 wins like Curry will.
2)I think Knicks can resign LT since they have his Early Bird Rights, similar to how they did to Steve Novak or JR Smith.
curry for mvp. if he doesn't play pg for them, they are a 35 win team?
LT oh boy... KOQ traded for picks?

I disagree. I think that playoff ball is much better suited for LT than DWil.

That seems like a fair contract. I worry some team with excess cap will come at him for 4yr $32M or more. Sounds insane until you remember DeMarr Carroll 4yr $60M. Lance is younger than DeMarr and has a longer track record (DeMarr had one good year). Both are 3 and D system guys. DeMarr was a starter and (before knee surgery at least) the better player - but how much better?
I think Lance gets paid this summer. Remember, Ariza got 4yr $32M with a far lower cap. With Lance showing he can defend 3s and even some 2s, he's put himself in the range of that sort of contract, I think. He's shooting 49% overall and 42% from 3 and plays great D and is a consummate team guy.
I do hope we keep him. He's like our Rick Fox, without the weird Hollywood baggage.
Also MVP vote right now:
1) Steph Curry
2) Kawhi Leonard

Everyone else.
Melo deserves some MVP votes though, particularly if they make the playoffs, I think he'll be in the top ten for vote getters, which is about right.
Melo won't win MVP because Curry is probably getting it again, with Kawhi the 2nd most likely based on 2 teams running away with the league.
Lance will hopefully meet the Knicks halfway and sign a reasonable contract, but we have some decisions to make this summer with Afflalo and DWill likely opting out and Lance and Galloway both playing their way into nice contracts.
right now the mvp race is something like this:
1. Stephen Curry
2. Kawhi Leonard
3. Russell Westbrook
4. Kevin Durant
5. LeBron James
6. Draymond Green
7. Kyle Lowry
8. Jimmy Butler

Im just happy Melo is playing better team basketball--I dont care about MVP I care about wins

In 2017-18 you mean?
He doesn't possess that option for 2016-17

You have to remember that this will be the first significant contract for Lance and to turn down millions even if he loves playing with us will be a difficult decision to make. Many players follow the money especially when they haven't made much yet. I don't think Gallo has really played himself into some great contract but Lance has. We need to keep this guy at almost all costs but not quite.

Durant?? I don't think he's played enough this year to put his name in there with the rest but we'll see how the rest of the year goes for him.

He has played > 1100 minutes so far.

I'm in this boat. DWill played scared against Spurs for the most part. Lacked the necessary intensity to play every minute with force.

I think he has a player out after this season.

Yeah, Pau has a player option. Though honestly, I think we need more help in the backcourt than anything up front. We're pretty set up front, I think.
good topic.
LT will be a challenge. Landry Fields got almost 7mill/year and LT is playing better than Landry was, and the cap is bigger now
i have to imagine we get a discount because of the trust and opportunity provided to him but we need to be close to the market number
