I would tell him "we ain't never trading your ass.
We're rebuilding and need you."
Reverse psychology his ass until he begs to be traded, then tell him to fully waive NTC or forget it.

Thats the game. You could also Marbury him too. That would hurt his place in history as far as stats are concerned. There are ways to get around stuff. GMs have been playing themselves last few years.
All great ideas! Wow these are incredible ideas, we need to feed these to Phil somehow!!
These are great ideas if you never want to attract a free agent or star player ever again.

Hahahaha right......some people just don't put any thought into what they say.

Hahahahaha yeah cuz who wants to be handcuffed by a bratty superstar? Melo isn't bratty, I'm just adding for sake of argument. If Melo was acting up to that level though, I think playing hardball and then explainin to the fans what's going on would be fine with me. No one player should be above the team. That's why we are in this mess trying to rebuild. If a player sees that as a reason not to sign here then we don't want them. On the flipside a player could see that as a sign the organization is standing for something and is committed to winning. Flip it how you like, but you need to stand for something in life.
amazing how people overcomplicate things. Just be transparent.

You forget this is an organization. Business decisions have to be made from time to time, but you are dealing with people first and want people to want to work for you. You don't want to develop a reputation as being difficult to work with. If it comes to the point where things do not work out with Melo, agents are going to look at Knicks one of 2 ways: Either they want to work with players to find a common solution, or they don't care about people at all. There is always common ground for a resolution. Being a likeable organization goes a long way. If you deal with a bratty player, you work with him and his people to find a solution, that's it.
What Phil needs to do is go to this guy and assure him that he wouldn't be doing this city wrong if he opened up his mind to a trade. I think Melo feels he may owe it to NY to stay here and stick it out through thick & thin, that that's what the majority of Knicks fans want him to do. Come on man--no, we don't!! I know I don't...All I'm worried about is getting caught bent over with our pants down by our ankles when this guy finally breaks down altogether or his skills decline even more than what we're seeing now and we still owe him millions. That's it. No other real concern--I can even deal with his moodiness, the faux leadership, all the personality shit...I will hold no grudge against this guy at all, nor will I call him a quitter, if he starts talking trade. Phil needs to convince him to go after a ring somewhere else once it becomes crystal clear to everyone involved that it won't happen here (I'm 99% there already), that that's what you play for and that he'll regret it after if he doesn't pursue that for himself. If anyone can convince Melo of this, you figure it could be Phil, flashing his rings in his face etc..Wouldn't even have to waive the NTC necessarily -- that's not even the issue as in A before B. Obviously he won't consent to a trade to go somewhere he doesn't wanna go to or to a loser--that's with or w/o the NTC...Just open the man's mind up to going to a winner and competing for a championship. Once we do that, I think we can find him a favorable destination, one that's good for both he and his family...and for us. That's how you go about this.
I think Phil should try to catfish Lala with a fake TV show offer out in LA.

That's funny!
You know another thing Phil might wanna tell him--if opportunities open up where winning teams are interested in acquiring him and Phil's ready to deal only to have Melo reject them, he could be vilified here. If we have an opportunity to restock the shelves with a few assets and send Melo to a winner to play with one of his friends etc. and then it comes out that he nixed it, you better believe a lot of people will be pissed. Tell him that too. If he's so concerned about image, let him chew on that for awhile.
I think phil should do the right think and add some more legit help for KP and Melo, like a coach, more leadership, better role players, a system that doesn't have majority of your roster shooting low percentage shots (jumper after jumper), no fast breaks, very little FTs and a different rotation every single night (win lose or draw)
Why should I be concern about melo's contract, so I can over pay some trash ass players(like we did last off season) who will only be playing for a pay check because they know without another 2 stars a championship is a pipe dream.
PHIL DOES NOT WANT TO TRADE MELO, and melo does not want to leave...NEXT FCKNG SUBJECT, You have a better chance getting a unicorn as a pet

Business works both ways. The player has to conduct themselves a certain way. If it's a situation where they are being bratty and causing problems then you need to conduct your business accordingly. You do not bend over. You have to stand for something

For certain players who become problems, absolutely. If they do something illegal or against team policy, yes, then you need to conduct business accordingly. But i don't think that's what we are talking about here.

Yes, because people are throwing roses at his feet right now.

Knicks haven't exactly had cap space to spend.

and when they did they still got 2nd tier type players, and it's mainly because of the culture and system
