If anything this will put pressure on the Knicks it will be difficult to find a replacement that easy
It won't be difficult at all really to use up $12m and get similar production

You're worried about the bench scorer? The most important thing is securing the starting PG and SG that will solidify the starting lineup and form the core of what we hope to be a playoff team.
I'm not worried about replacing the scoring of AA and DWILL as much as filling the backcourt spots in the starting lineup with quality 2way players. I like DWILL but let's worry about building this team properly. That's gonna mean having starting quality guards that are not below average as we've been stuck with.

running straight to the basket and trying to dunk it 85% of the time or go to the free throw line trying is not something that cant be replicated.
dwill is a bench player with alot of skill but only does one thing really

So we can only sign players that played in the triangle before? If that's your logic than Matt Barnes even at his age would be a great replacement for Derrick Williams. Unless you got a plan to trade for Trevor Ariza, complaining about getting a player with Triangle experience sounds flat out ignorant. Besides we got Jeff Hornacek coaching the team next year.

Before we added Hornacek, the past two years have basically proven either we've had bad teacher's of the triangle or you needed time in the system. Or we had low IQ players. I think it was a combo of the three.
Regardless, I'm relieved to have a real coach, because we can better understand any failures as on our players and talent, and less on the coach and system.
Unless of course Phil is tampering behind the scenes with Hornacek and forcing him to run something out of character

He made 4 million last year... we can't afford a guy making more than that if he isn't going to start for us.... 6 million maybe. When it starts to get to the 8-10 million we just have to tip our hat to the guy.
I mentioned Jared Dudley. He seems like a dude that would come in and do whatever you need him to do. He made 4 million last year too. At 30 years old and zero upside, he's not getting more than that.

If I were Derrick, I would ask for another 1 and 1 contract. Probably closer to 8mm. That said, he should stick with the Knicks even for a couple dollars less. I don't want to sound like a kool aid machine, but he could be a 6th man of the year. Walking into next year's cap situation, it's not a bad place to get his minutes.
I think of Bennett in the same sense as DWill. A reclamation project. Give Bennett a 1 and 1 contract also.
Gallo/Bennett/DWill/ has the potential for a good high energy second unit.
We all expected them to opt out, didn't we?
I think they'll try to keep DWill and try to upgrade AA's position.
DWill found a role here, I'm guessing he'll come back for a fair price.

$30 million is more than enough to replace 25 points and then some. I think we all wouldn't mind having DW back and think Phil will at least throw him a 3/4 year offer around $7/$8 mil per or maybe even less so we'll see if he wants to play with us and go through this retool with us which is close to being done and having him would be a good piece.
Talking about less expensive D-Will replacements yesterday, I forgot to mention Anthony Bennett. I mean if he truly has slimed down and rededicated himself, why not? Has the raw talent that made him the first pick really gone anywhere? This guy was fat and wasn't focused more than anything else... And remember, we're not looking to replace an all-star in D-Will here (and who knows, maybe we do bring him back). Even with the inflated cap, is D-Will really worth $8.5mm/yr? Hey, maybe he is but I don't want to pay that, not when we have an entire team to build and not when there are cheaper alternatives out there that have a good chance of being even better fits for this roster. I know this for certain -- if we chew through this cap room with the wrong players, we'll regret it. This is a time to be smart and frugal more than ever. No way in hell should we overpay for middle-of-the-road role player production we could get cheaper elsewhere. Even on a smaller scale with Langston Galloway -- do we really pay Langston Galloway a raise or do we come to the realization that there are better alternatives out there that would cost less? I want money available for legit stars when the time comes, whether that's this year, next year, the year after...A big part of adding a player or two like that involves economizing now.
well you know how i feel about Bennett (he's a laughing joke). i understand beggars cant be choosers so at the very least, ill invite him to summer camp and see if he can play the game of basketball. but until then, i want assume anything about him playing a bench role or making an NBA roster.
in terms of depth: wroten/jose, gallo, lance,oquinn and willie g are justfine off the bench
starters: grant, (insert must get SG), melo, kp and rolo
Hopefully they will keep DWill. I hope the slight career reclamation he's gotten here gets Phil some sort of discount on what it takes to keep him here.
AA can go. Seen enough of the lowlights and not nearly as strong defensively as advertised. From what little I've read, seems like a head case anyway.

Yeah I don't think that would even get us to the playoffs. KP would have to have rapid off-season improvement and Melo would have to not age.

Knicks have $33M in cap space.
The MLE is $12M now?
Also, Conley would absolutely make this team a playoffs team.
And we can still stretch Jose or he comes off the cap in 2017 when the cap also rises another $20M to $110M. So we'd have $12M this summer to either re-sign DWill or add a shooting guard.

I find it hilarious that you advocate giving Crabbe $17M and Seth Curry $11M for a total of $28M, neither are proven, signing both would mean we lose DWill.
But when it comes to signing proven near all-star two-way PG Mike Conley 28 years old to $21M which would allow us to re-sign DWill and add a SG as well... then it's too much money.

Derrick Williams was looking at his last chance to show he belonged in the nba with us. He proved he could. I doubt his agent is going to allow him to take less to stay here. You never know but we really need to figure out our back court before we throw money at Derrick
