Knicks · Jennings cut (page 4)

Arron Afflalo
Robin Lopez
Derrick Williams
Joakim Noah
Brandon Jennings
Courtney Lee
Only Lee could be said to have not lost value for himself since he signed here. Maybe Rolo, but Phil traded him.
If you think agents don't look at this history and see a red flag for their player signing here, you are kidding yourself.

Maybe so. I will never understand passing on Rubio, but so be it.
You talk about Rubio like he's a great player or something. The Rubio contract would of held us back from signing any bigger names in free agency for the next two years and he's a limited player who can't shoot the ball so i just don't understand acting like it was some big loss for this team.

What has Phil done to these players? Treated them dirty? How? Arron Afflalo thinks he's an elite shooting guard. Robin Lopez found another phase of his game as a Knick. Derrick Williams was headed to China. Noah just got his nest egg contract to be a guidance counselor for our youth movement. Jennings got an opportunity to play for his favorite team and now has an opportunity to go to the playoffs. Lee got paid and a starting spot.
Please tell me again how we treated them dirty. Show me where did we touch them?

I guess the proof will be in the grand free agent haul Phil gets this summer.

lol, was thinking the same.. taking bitch to a whole new level.
i think there has to be more to this though... jennings earlier this year tweeted several times bashing the flow of the team offensively. seemed like direct shots at melo and rose. i happened to agree with him, but im sure it didn't go over well.
Why would Phil care about that. However, if he didn't like the triangle...Javascript is not enabled or there was problem with the URL: https://twitter.com/SBondyNYDN/status/836207233880965121

This is nothing New, we saw this as soon as phil got here. Anyone who resist to the triangle is out of here, players or coaches. Fisher tried to stray away, and got canned, and funny how Jeff was starting to do his own thing in the begining (when we were over .500)but quickly was told to commit no matter what or his as would be gone.
It's like we have dictator has a president, this really sucks, Jennings has been wanting to play in NY his whole career, and phil talks about signing players that really want to be here..why they didn't waive sasha or ndour..wow

how did we treat jennings dirty? he signed a one year deal with us - we did him the favor of outright releasing him, allowing him to sign with whatever team he chooses, instead of trading him to a garbage team. how have we treated noah dirty? he's been injured all year long.

Also Derrick Williams? We played him a bunch but decided not to resign him in the offseason.

He's a free agent this summer. May actually be back next year on a fair deal. I like him and think he had the right attitude for Phil's team. Effort counts for a lot.

I don't think A.Afflalo, Rolo, D.Williams for sure or B.Jennings had more value before they came here than they had when they left. So you can have the J.Noah but he's retiring after his 4 years with us so his value when he leaves won't matter anyway. Rolo and D.Williams actually both gained more when with us so they left being looked at as better players.
You're always trying to find the bad in anything Knicks and trying to make it look worse then it really is. I definitely think you're like F.Asshola or another new york media person cause all you ever talk about is the negative.....lol. You and a few others on here only talk about negatives.

I don't understand the sarcasm. We haven't made a free agent splash because nobody wants to be here. That was before Phil. Phil realized that the first year when he had to make up signings like Derrick Williams and Affalo. We're never going to make a splash unless we start winning. We need to build with youth. All signs point to that. We just signed Randle back. There is a new commitment to youth.
Anyway, there won't be a grand free agent haul. We only have 25 mill to spend. All the top free agents will get 30 million per. Nobody out there is with that aside from Gordon Hayward... I bet we sit on that money and use it on undrafted rookies or more under 25 players
Andrew wrote:crzymdups wrote:But seriously, how does Jennings get cut and Rose does not.I think Rose still has a little value if kept until the off-season. Possible sign and trade with a team that has not enough cap space to sign him outright.
I think sign and trades were outlawed after the last lock out.
I can only assume we're either keeping Rose out of spite, or the sudden boost in triangle is part of money negotiations for a buy out
corvetteknick wrote:Scroll up and read what Andrew said about math.... as in salary cap. Like teams over the Cap can't trade second round picks for players... and why would a team under the cap trade a second round pick for Jennings? They typically would be non playoff teams. Go back to school you nutterbutter. Then I guess no trades would be made at the deadline, huh? And deals for expiring contracts at the deadline have NEVER been made before? As for teams not having cap space - don't act like every team is over the cap, and you (and Andrew) still don't know the difference between a $5M deal and a $12M and $10M deal, and how 5 is less than 10 and 12? You and Andrew are remedial morons.
Which playoff team with cap space would trade for him? Here is a list to help you out:

Looking forward to your answer! Do you really think a team offered phil a second and he said "nah, we'll just cut him for nothing"
Also remember we don't have Jennings bird or early bird rights, which hugely dents the value of his contract.

I talk about positive things when there are positive things to talk about. This season has made me question investing any of my time following this team. If y'all don't get what a mess this is and how it is seen throughout the league I don't know what to tell you.
I've been a huge fan of Willy and KP. I said early in the year Willy should get more time, then I said he should be starting. I'm happy they signed Randle.
I'm looking at this rationally - no good agent is going to look at NY and think it's a good thing to send their players here. The best two signings Phil made - Rolo came because he wanted to be in the same town as his brother and we traded him. Courtney Lee came because he was pals with Noah and wanted to play for a contender, he was been quoted as saying the team "is beyond pep talks now" and he just takes it one day at a time. Rumors were Phil tried to trade him to the Clippers before the trade deadline. Noah has removed all Knicks imagery from his social media accounts, like Jennings did, so I imagine they've told him they're shutting him down for the year and trying to trade him or buy him out or something.
We'll see this summer, but it's one reason I advocated for a Rubio trade. I don't think any decent agent will send their guy here. Almost every team in the league has cap space, many have more than us... players who come here do not improve their value and they get moved within a year of signing. We won't see guys come here this summer.

Phil was supposed to change this. That was supposedly the big reason to bring him in. He'd install a winning and productive atmosphere and be able to convince guys to play in the Triangle and compete. He's been a massive failure at free agency. He's been good at the draft and signing younger FA from Europe and stuff.
What I'm saying is that the way Phil has handled the free agents he has signed is not good. The guys who come here don't develop roles and don't really improve their value. Rolo did improve... but he came here to be near his brother - traded less than a year after he signed. Courtney Lee has been solid here, but he's already been on the trading block and he is miserable.
Players in the league talk. It's not a good move for a player's career to come to the NYK at this point. Won't even get into the Triangle being a difficult system to learn and the way players around the league feel about the Oakley incident. Seriously, this is a mess.
I was excited when we signed Phil - because I thought he'd bring a culture of winning basketball and accountability and stability. It's been the same old Knicks. It's disappointing.

Dude if you are more concerned with what an agent will tell his players, then you are not a Knicks fan. Who cares about agents? We're not that team anymore. If you want to see a team spend money and wheel and deal you should follow the Lakers. Magic is about to go full Isiah on the league. The Knicks are not that team.... we're in a full rebuild right now. If you can't deal with that then save yourself. No Shade fam. DJSUNYC did it years ago. I'll still ride his magic carpet all the way to raptor city any day. Yes that is marginally racist because he's Indian and a cab driver, but that's besides the point.
