Yeah, playing the game great and analyzing the game are separate and probably completely or almost completely unrelated. It's more like the difference between being a construction worker (even a great one) and an architect who designs houses.
That said, Phil deserves all the blame he gets and it's clearly not an either/or with Melo and him.Right..A professional basketball player doesn't know what he is seeing when it comes to basketball but some journalism student is in the know..
He knows a lot about how to get to the rim, pass to the open teammate, etc when he's on the court. I've not seen any evidence that corresponds to designing teams. Tons of great players have been terrible GMs and great GMs never even played professionally. He has forgeten more about basketball than you will ever know...he has been playing all his life, know defenses and offense most non playing analyst have never seen...No one is talking about being a GM..I'm talking about understanding the game from a player's standpoint...Phil is a terrible GM and is a great coach...But I would trust a player's opinion over most in any sport...
Says the guy who wants a team full of guys like Melo, Rose, and DeMarcus Cousins.
It looks like Pippen's actual quote wasn't posted but if he was implying that Melo being a problem and Phil being a problem were mutually exclusive, that doesn't pass basic logic.
Your logic? Where did anyone post where Pippen said Melo was the problem..That's is your personal insertion..Look at the video yourself..You lost me. I didn't say he said Melo was the problem. I don't know what he said. I clicked on the link and nothing came up. What did he say in the video? Did he actually say anything positive about Melo? Or is he just saying Phil should go first and Melo should go second?
He said the problem in New York is not Melo but it's Phil...He said has been the problem since coming to NY...Phil has not put the right pieces on the court..He said Melo has been great given the circumstances..He said he feels bad that Melo had to deal with this...He said Melo should start in NY and Phil should be fired..
Fair enough. I'd give that about the same weight as Shaq's or Barkley's opinions.

When Hornacek was hired, Barkley said it was because he can be controlled..So he was basically saying Phil would control and manipulate him and it turned out to be true..

What I do know about Phil is that he stands for the right things basketball wise. He wants TEAM BALL. He wants smart players that are unselfish and will defend. Now he hasn't been great at finding Free Agents that can give the team everything it needs but I do believe he will be able to find those players in the Draft and with UDFA's and being smarter with his FA signings from here on.
The FA stuff has been mostly bad. He's gotten some good low key moves like KOQ, Holiday, LT etc. RoLo and CLee were good FA signings. Of course KP and Willy were highlights. So not everything has been bad. I want to see what he can get done from here. He still has a chance to turn this thing around and get it going in the right direction.

Scottie Pippen come out the wood works don't know shyt about the Knicks situation probably still pissed Kukoc took the last shot.
SO phil knows the best way is to build is through the draft but yet he continues to construct win now teams that fail. SO basically he is succeeding because he is so bad at his job that his poor performance is roster construction is leading to great draft position.
Yes he knows it's best to build through the draft. And most fans that follow the knives know they had one sinking first round pick the first three years he was here. Guess he should have just tried to build through the draft and psychotic Melo fans would have really respected that.

I just don't know how much the Knicks can get back with contract Melo has, the trade kicker, and the ntc he was given. I also don't have much hope that Phil gets any value back in a Melo trade.

Click here to view the TweetNahhh. I trust Nix, Fish and all the other haters on here more. What does Pip know anyway. Melo is definately more valuable listening to these jack offs and only taking 2 shots in a half.
phil is their hero, he's done so much for the franchise. If phil himself came out and said he's done a god awful job, they would try and convince him that he did better job then Isaiah and that's all that matters. Nevermind the franchise worse 17 win season only to get the 4th pick, never mind having the 2nd worse record in the nba during his tenure, never mind the constant roster flips..
It's all melo, afflalo, d will, shump, rose and jr's fault

Do you always intentionally misquote people and put words in their mouths? Because I don't think I said anything like that. I said he wanted to build through the draft but did't have a way to do it since he didn't have first round draft picks. Then I said no matter what he did in that situation Melo fans like you would find fault with it because it's kinda what you do.

There weren't a lot of great options when Phil took over! Phil cleaned house his 1st year which made sense. IMO he drafted well, LT and KOQ were decent additions. The next year was an effort to try and build up some value and not waste a year with no pick. RoLo was a good signing. This year Phil did not go ALL IN on Win Now! He took a chance on Rose and BJ with no risk and the safety net of having picks. You may not want to recognize it but there is a degree of planning involved in all of that.
Phil is serving two purposes. One to have some level of talent to get thru the season and the other is to protect the future prospects of the Franchise which he's mostly done. The key will be what happens this summer. Phil has a lot of work to do but it's not all doom and gloom.
Some potential execs might have been uneasy in the past about working for Dolan because of his habit of jumping the gun, meddling.
I believe the quickest way to get the Knicks back to being competitive is for Phil to tell Jeff that he can run a parallelogram for all he cares. I believe this would be great for morale, and help recruit some of the better players in the league, who are still in their prime.

Melo is the STAR of the roster and should've done a better job of leading. For a Melo Team to be this bad what does that say about his impact? It says to me he's a net negative in terms of his impact. If this is the best he can do we don't need him.

He's 32. The roster was poorly constructed. The coach was confused and also undermined by Phil. You're making an ass of yourself with this sad argument.
