Yes he knows it's best to build through the draft. And most fans that follow the knives know they had one sinking first round pick the first three years he was here. Guess he should have just tried to build through the draft and psychotic Melo fans would have really respected that.
Can't make this sheeeit up
Do you always intentionally misquote people and put words in their mouths? Because I don't think I said anything like that. I said he wanted to build through the draft but did't have a way to do it since he didn't have first round draft picks. Then I said no matter what he did in that situation Melo fans like you would find fault with it because it's kinda what you do.
no ones a melo fan, were just not blaming him for putting together a garbage roster
Melo is the STAR of the roster and should've done a better job of leading. For a Melo Team to be this bad what does that say about his impact? It says to me he's a net negative in terms of his impact. If this is the best he can do we don't need him.
He's 32. The roster was poorly constructed. The coach was confused and also undermined by Phil. You're making an ass of yourself with this sad argument.

Freakin Sixers and Magic had a chance to win but they let it slip away. Perhaps now we can stop running Melo out there and just go into FULL TANK MODE now that the Knicks are officially eliminated from the playoffs.

JESUS!!! You know damned well that Melo can easily have one of those games that could beat a weak opponent. That has NOTHING to do with his impact over an entire season. Please go do something else with your time cuz this was a lame attempt.

You really don't think before pressing send. The Knicks will be adding new talent this summer and hopefully more. There will be time for KP, Willy and whoever we draft to take over the team. Melo isn't going to be the top dog for much longer.
From your negative comments about KP jacking up shots I can only assume you're not going to give the kid a chance or any other young players we draft. Not a very patient approach you're taking to the development of young players. I guess you would've Traded Dirk or Steph early.

Its not send its post your reply. DOnt think you get it. Everything you just mentioned is a big???? My point exactly. You can talk about how Fitz will be a great QB but a year later you realize it was all a hope. Cant assume things just based on hope. Specially when we can see their inconsistancies.
I will definately give KP more than a chance. Have said many times that he is just a second year player. However, have not declared him the savior like all these other dreamers. Not fair to him. I will defend him as long as he is a Knick. Dont trash any Knick that belongs in NBA. Saying he needs to pass more is not giving up on him. Saying he takes too many 30 foot quick shots is also fair. AS is saying he has trouble defending todays 4's. Good try though. Btw said many times Melo needs to stop iso play from 30 feet from hoop. Also said he needs to stop taking 3pt shots and get back to posting up players and he has tendancy to get tunnel vision when team is down. I guess I was giving up on Melo too.
Pippen could say it because he means it, or he could say it because it's good ratings and a producer and writer told him to say it.
If people are talking about what Pippen said, then Pippen, his producers and writers did their job.
I wouldn't take much stock in what most NBA pundits say. They even found a way to get Bill Simmons to muzzle himself ( i.e. telling Doc Rivers he was a cheap lying sellout LOL )

Just out of curiosity, why do you always say people here who think Phil has done a bad job have an agenda? I think most people here want the Knicks to be good. We have different opinions on how that happens...
But why do the people who think Phil has done a bad job have an "agenda" but the people who think it's all Melo's fault don't?
I'd be really curious to hear why this is. Sincere question
crzymdups wrote:But why do the people who think Phil has done a bad job have an "agenda" but the people who think it's all Melo's fault don't?I'd be really curious to hear why this is. Sincere question
Jeff Nelson
Without Jeff Nelson, the Yankees don't win multiple World Series in the 90s.
Sure, Mariano Rivera, Derek Jeter, Bernie Williams got a lot of the press. So did Clemens, and Randy Johnson, and Chuck Knoblauch, but no one talks about Jim Leyritz, Randy Velarde, Gerald Williams, Charlie Hayes, Mike Stanton, Scott Brosius, etc.
When you are at the top, you get all the credit if you win. You get all the blame if you lose. No one gives a f**k about Jeff Nelson.
Tom Coughlin got a lot of credit for winning two SuperBowls, does he do it without Spags running the defense? But that's how it works, also in reverse, if Spags fails, it's still Coughlins fault.
Melo wanted to be "The Man" in NY. OK, he got what he wanted. Part of what comes with it is if you lose, it's all on you. Fair, unfair, who cares, it's not how most fans operate. Play the right way and you give no one ammo to hurt you or badmouth you, but they will do it anyway.
Just like they say in the service, it's your fault because ITS YOUR TURN. It's that simple. Sometimes you are wrong just for being in the wrong place at the wrong time. However Jackson and Melo have both done things to hurt this team, so they aren't blameless here.
As the rumor goes, when Tiger Woods got caught cheating, who he feared the most was his mother. Who was cheated on by Earl Woods and apparently the story goes she slapped Tiger and told him, that now everyone will look at me, you and your kids and they will all think we are cheap low class trash. Fair, unfair, doesn't matter, it's how it goes, when you are at the top, people want to drag you down. When you are at the top, often you do things to help people drag you down.
A lot of people here have piss poor critical thinking skills. If Jose Canseco taught the world anything is, just because you don't like hearing it, doesn't mean it's not true. You can like or dislike Phil Jackson and still have a valid point about the job he's doing. Or not doing. You can like or dislike Melo and still have a valid about what he is or is not doing for this team. People claim "hate" because it's an easier way to dismiss other people for not thinking exactly like them.
It's not hard. Play the game the right way, and then you'll start hearing things you want to hear from the public. Live your life the right way, and you'll start having chicks blow you, and having good opportunities and seeing what life has to offer. It's really no different that most things in life, just start doing things the right way and good things will tend to happen. Melo and Jackson don't care, and they have to eat crap for it. They made their bed, let them lie in it. It's not "hate" if they don't care enough to put in enough to avoid most of the criticism they get.

They do. They can be silly as well. Basketball is a team game and Melo is one of 5 players on a court.
One thing that constant change has given us was unbalanced rosters and one GM having to clean up the previous one. Layden inherited some problems, cleaned it up, and was in a position to have cap space and picks but Isiah leveraged it. That leverage made it very hard for walsh to clean up, when he did what his boss wanted, which was get cap space for Lebron, he had to discount players to move them, and they were not playing well. This was the environment by which we sign Amare and trade for Melo.
Fast forward to present where we have phil making moves that don't leverage the future, don't trade picks and create caps space. A team that was built on retreads limped to a 54 win season and the next declined to 37 and had made the awful trade to get Bargnani for another 1st round pick. I applaud the rebuild and it comes at a price.
No, Nalod does not feel like Phil has made any fatal mistakes. Its laughable to think that Rubio would have lead us to a playoff run. Its not like Minny is exactly lighting the world on fire either.
Fwiw. Melo deserves some criticism for his play e.g. Lack of defensive effort. Hogging the ball
AND Phil deserves some blame. Before he was prez he called the melo stat lineup clumsy and for whatever reason he has yet to build a team w chemistry
Rory sparrow had an interesting comment the other day suggesting that chemistry precedes team play. That when there's chemistry players willingly pass the ball. Makes sense. Also explains a lot. Melo is a more willing passer w olympics because he's passing to his friends.
Series against Knicks was tougher than thought.
A few seconds left, bulls down by two, Phil draws a play where Kukoc takes the last shot. Scottie has a diva fit and won't go back in the game. In my view this is worse than anything Rose has ever done. This is a playoff game, in the middle of a game and he bails. Phils play worked and Bulls win game with buzzer shot.
They kissed and made up, but it was very telling moment for them.
No love since???
Pippins comment was made in a cheesy type show and Pip is trying to break into broadcasting as he has not much to do with his time and after some bad investment deals he is OK, but not like he was. My take is he enjoyed the benefit of making such a statement.
For that matter if you ask phil, he might tell you its his fault, cuz he is the boss.
The difference with some of you is when some does not perform, you want them gone with someone or something you can't see or measure and by doing so think their past success would be installed, or at least think "well, he did well with his previous team..." Its hope.
I get it.
We all know change is not always improvement and rebuilding takes time and assets. Phil took the job with few assets and while we all hoped by now we'd be further along, the nice thing is we did not leverage the assets.
Its like thinking Kyle lowrey would be giving us Toronto like wins with the knicks. What if he didn't? and we gave up another first round pick?

There's not a thing Phil could do that wouldn't have some here still kissing his feet. Knicks win 40 games it would be look at the improvement phil came through for us. Fails miserably at constructing a competitive roster...he was tanking for the draft. Screws up PR ...oh he's trying to get Melo to leave...how clever. Noah signing..he's going to mentor kp..how brilliant. There's an excuse for every possible contingency.
CrushAlot wrote:Phil absolutely backed into a tank this year and backed into a rebuild. Some here are set on blaming Melo and the players who didnt buy in and play defense. Some here want to blame Phil for assembling this cast in the first place. Have at it. I dont give a crap. For once we have our draft picks and we should get another very nice consolation prize. Some really have it out for Phil and I get the frustration but he hasnt hurt us. He's executed in the draft and our roster remains flexible. Thats all he's accomplished which isnt much but its something. He hasnt doubled down on bad moves or bad players as GMs have done in the past. So long as that remains and we continue to add talent and execute in the draft I remain patient. Genius like hofstra reads this as Phil love. Its not. The mistakes from Phil are plentiful and easy to pick on. I remain hopeful because we will get another good player in this draft. Rose/Melo were a coach killing combo. One wouldnt pass. The other doesnt know how. Both have massive egos that need catering to, and the guy who was supposed to balance that in Noah was totally MIA. The difference is when Isiah tried to win now and failed we got to watch players like Aldridge and Noah go to other teams. While Phil has failed to win now with this group he will add another high caliber prospect and we have the ability to move many or most of these players. Blame blame blame. It doesnt matter. I am not high on Melo so I dont lament the failure to rebuild around him. I see nothing in his game at this stage of the career that warrants that. Some how a "meh" reaction to that failure is enough to be labeled a Phil apologist or lover. Meh.
There has not been any upside to think that the New York Knicks were gonna be a contender, and I just feel bad for Carmelo having to go through this and having to deal with it, but he got a great contract, so …” Pippen said amid laughter from his panelists, adding, “I’m sure the fans will love to see Carmelo in New York and Phil out.”Asked if Jackson should be pushed out his job, Pippen replied, “Yes.”
To me he sounds more like a fan than someone who has to think about how to fix it.
My contention is what he said "Knicks never had it since phil has been there....."
The same answer I tell any fan: "Look at the assets in place, the lack of picks, etc".
Pippin is a HOF talent. So is Charles. Not everybody agrees with his comments. I know some of the "Phil agenda guys" here have their posterchild for Phil hate and an erection from the statement, but even Pip offers no solution or details as to how the problem exists, why it exists and how to fix it.
Should he step down? Easy to say. Who replaces him? Mills. Whats gonna change? Likley not much.

4-5? Ha!! I'll put money on it that the "FIRE Phil Chants" are coming soon. I really haven't read anything, or spoken to anyone(except for ppl on this sight)that doesn't want phill gone
Nalod wrote:The quote itself:There has not been any upside to think that the New York Knicks were gonna be a contender, and I just feel bad for Carmelo having to go through this and having to deal with it, but he got a great contract, so …” Pippen said amid laughter from his panelists, adding, “I’m sure the fans will love to see Carmelo in New York and Phil out.”Asked if Jackson should be pushed out his job, Pippen replied, “Yes.”
I know some of the "Phil agenda guys" here have their posterchild for Phil hate and an erection from the statement, but even Pip offers no solution or details as to how the problem exists, why it exists and how to fix it.Should he step down? Easy to say. Who replaces him? Mills. Whats gonna change? Likley not much.
You can bemoan the "Phil agenda guys" stuff til the cows come home but his record speaks for itself...
As for the head count, there are a few of you that are very vocal and very ambitious in your efforts. It sucks me into the convo!!
I said I wouldn't a few weeks ago!! I tried.
The masses usually get it wrong. WHY? Your mostly fed media flavor to get you angry.
Is phil to blame? Sure. Should he step down? nope. "KNick fans don't have patience reason why can't rebuild in NY". THree years in and ready to fire him.
We have all seen this movie before. As long as the platform of not trading picks is in place, I'll stay with it. Its not fool proof, but its different than what we have experienced before.
