Nah can't pin this on Melo
KP has shown his form of rebellion and leadership already
In Feb he called out coaching staff and players
He's been pissed at his body having nick nack injuries holding him back
He is a fierce competitor that hates to loseTo me my guess is he wanted to jet stream out of NY as fast as possible to get home and to practice. He was wrong for missing this thing, but it's not about Melo or Melo influence. I think KP simply doesn't want to deal with more talk and blah blah. Just wants to go put in the work. In his last interview he was pretty clear in that he didn't want to waste time and that he wanted to get bigger stronger and live in the weight room. This season played its toll on KP. He's 21. Very unprofessional of him and Knicks should fine him but let it go since he is 21 and had a drama filled losing season to endure.
I appreciate your take but I still think it had to do with Melo. The only statement KP made was to Tweet a response to Melo's Tweet about Phil's comments on Melo. I think KP got an earful from Melo and decided at that point not to show up, Pure and simple IMO.
Also KP wasn't expressing any anger after the last few starts he had, so why all of a sudden would he be so upset??? KP had 3 20 PT games in a row before tweaking his back. The younger players had some positive performances to close the year so KP wasn't upset at all. Not until Phil said Melo needs to go!!! I could be wrong about this but it seems logical to me.

So what's was "confused from TOP to BOTTOM" statement about a few weeks ago that everyone pretended didn't happen?
People keep bringing up KP's comments out of context. Here's the entire statement.
“We’ve been switching things up because at any point of this season, we never played like we wanted to,” Porzingis said after fouling out with 19 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks. “It was like, ‘Maybe this will work. Maybe this will work.’ So we’re kind of looking for stuff.“Coaches, they obviously try to do the best job they can and give us as much as they can so we have the information. But we never really got it all together and were able to execute the way we should have. It’s been a lot of confusion.”
Porzingis said the confusion is “from top to bottom. A lot of stuff that’s not clear. So it’s hard to play like that.”
“The situation is tough,” Porzingis said. “We’re not doing the right things. We’re just not working together right now. We need to find solutions. Whatever 16, 15 games we have left, we have to give everything we have so we can finish the season not regretting anything.”
The switching things up comment stems from the fact the Rose and BJ couldn't figure out the offense outside of PnR and the team as a whole couldn't figure out a way to get stops. Largely because Rose, Melo and BJ in particular were HORRENDOUS ON D.
KP started to get a groove as did the younger players as a whole and KP didn't have a reason to be angry about the style of play or execution by the time the season ended. This all popped up after Melo's Exit Meeting.

I'm going to reserve judgment on this until we hear directly from KP how he feels. It also makes me wonder if Melo spoke to KP and influenced his view on things.
He is the only young player that has a contract other than Willy that can say something. This is a big deal. So was the top down comment. Phil has created such a dysfunctional situation. Why is Dolan always so loyal to the guys that just suck so bad at their jobs? Grunwald had a winning record and got the Knicks to the playoffs both years he was in place. Walsh was pretty good and certainly wasn't dysfunctional like Isiah. The league had to intervene to get Isiah removed. I believe Dolan teared up when he replaced Layden. Now Phil is getting two more years.I actually can't WAIT for Melo to be gone!!! This team needs to be free of this drama. I still want to hear from KP on this to see what his explanation is. He's going to have to talk with Phil and get clarity on things.
Phil is doing the right thing for this franchise. KP needs to understand that Melo's agenda isn't good for this franchise. One day KP is going to realize this.
Yikes, someone is bitter
all of what you said was about predicting the future and you want to ask me what isn't accurate? All of it?
Nix tried to predicts the future all the time but you don't call him bitter. It's amazing how Phil is involve in turmoil every year but yet we are supposed to think things will change.Have you read Nix's posts? His are the opposite of bitter.
Bitter, stubborn and with no logic.
Phil was brought here to change the culture- What culture has he built? Throw coaches and players under the bus? Give up on guys after one year? Try to win now and also build for the future? When buiding now make sure you pick guys that may break down in a month? When building for the future by drafting guys and then trading them within a year?
Now that the only reason, most on here, keep using to defend Phil, has shown he is not happy with Phil, the logic is to stay with the same stubborn view that Phil is headed in the right direction. Because when the "Future of the Franchise" does these type of things, its a good indication the person in command has control and is headed in the right direction?
The culture Phil has brought actually irks many fans and he summarized it in the press conference when asked about tanking. His reply (I'm paraphrasing) was, "That's not how we play, we play to win." Just because Melo doesn't get that message, doesn't mean it isn't being transmitted loud and clear. For Melo to whine about "I want to win" could not be more absurd.
Another cultural milestone is Phil's loyalty to Hornacek. Melo and his gang ran Rambis out and Phil was having none of a second act. the players don't employ the coaches, the team does. What coach was "thrown under the bus"? The coach who was too busy having an affair rather than tend to the business of getting the team off to a strong start?
Phil's respect for the difficulties of being a player between a rock and a hard place was evident in his handling of Rose. He could have been a draconian A-hole about the incident but he wasn't. The media spins this as a sign of weakness instead of strength. When he talks about Noah he called him a "warrior" - a word long associated with Ewing and Oakley. Yet fans who make a BFD about the Oakley/Dolan incident have no problem treating Noah (and Rose) like garbage. The misfortune of players injuries does not signify a bad trade. Injuries are part of the game and open a door to opportunity both for the injured and the player in waiting. The Noah trade turned out to be an exchange for Hernangomez. But fans are suddenly fiscal accountants rather than rational talent evaluators.
And the players Phil has brought in are what he can afford, find, and legitimately identify as fitting. Many are here one year and are quickly signed by contenders. Wow. What a failure.
Who knows if the team is headed in any direction. The chemistry of the players and coaches dictate that. What is observable and obvious is that the general talent level keeps rising. At some point there's a tipping point where it will suddenly click and we'll hopefully see a GSW kind of breakout season. But no one can guarantee a thing. And you know that so why the chronic whining? There are twenty-nine other teams who sell T-Shirts - find one you like and go. Like Melo, you may need a change of scenery.
Do you read what you are writing? So your telling me, Phil force placing Rambus on the staff and forcing JH away from the style of coaching, he is known for, to a style he has never coached before, is not throwing someone under the bus? What other Executive is coming on the court and making his coach run his system? What other executive highers his buddy to "Make sure I have a connection to the way things should be implemented? What is this High School? You hire someone,(Coach), because you think he is best qualified, and then you stay the hell out of his way. If you can't, then you either hired the wrong man for the job or you do not know how to be an executive leader. This is why Knick fans deserve the shit Dolan puts out. Their expectations for this professional franchise is that of a high school team. Not a professional sports organazation. Smh. No hope to shed some logic to those that cant see Phil for the Dolan Starphuck shield. Phil should either coach or be thrown out on his ass. He was not given 50M plus to quasi coach the Knicks and make us more of a joke. He is not an NBA Executive!! Lakers knew this. Kerr knew this.
Horney isn't "known" for a coaching style. He's only coached a few years. He got the job because he and Phil had a mutual interest in how a team should play and Hornacek was interested in realizing their mutual vision. Rambis wasn't forced on anyone. I don't think Phil thought Rambis had done a bad job or deserved firing because of a resistant group of players. Rambis provides Horney with an expertise with which Hornacek can calibrate and recalibrate how the team i doing. As Phil talked about in his press conference, the offense was more than adequate. The defense was not and that's where Rambis focused his attention. You can see it made an impression with the younger players.
Hornacek does not act or sound like a guy who's been thrown under a bus. He seems genuinely interested in getting it right and has no problem with Phil running interference with players in practice. If he wanted out I'm sure he'd say so.
In many ways it is high school. The core is young and the organization went through many phases. Getting it righted isn't an office memo task. Phil was "out of the way" until the team turned south. Is he supposed to just say F'it?
Your Dolan rant makes zero sense. Dolan has hired and entrusted a long term plan with Phil. Phil is making executive decisions.
Contray to popular belief Phil *is* and NBA exec. So is Magic Johnson, Stan Van Gundy, Tom Thibideau, Michael Jordan, Mark Cuban, Jerry West, Pat Riley, Scott Layden, and hundreds more. Their common qualifications are? Their teams have won how many championships in the past few years? C'mon man, its easy to do - RIGHT?

Carmelo Anthony spoke to the press after the last game of the season. He was asked that is "all things were on the table", would he and Phil discuss his future. He answered by saying "Oh, no -you guys think exit interviews are a big deal but that's not what we discuss" [I paraphrased]. He then went on to talk about how much he had to think about, slightly smirking, and being coy.
Phil's presser must have hit him like a ton of bricks. Melo was going to jerk everyone around for months and in one fell swoop, Phil said, "Enough is enough".

Well, I think KP developed Stockhausen Syndrome by associating too closely with his dependent teammate [Melo]. I think KP believes that he can demand that Melo stay. Hubris is a terrible teacher to take lessons from.

As usual, you are wrong trying to project the team's problems on players you don't like...This all started after the meeting around November 20th where the team decided to move away from the triangle..Phil was there..The players said Phil took it well..The switched style of play. They went 9-3, then Phil started his media war...Phil wasn't happy with success away from the triangle..This sews distrust with the players..The media, Melo haters included, is telling you ALL the players hate Phil..
You could say it's about Melo a million times and it doesn't mean that it is....

The TOP had no right speaking for THE BOTTOM who have no trouble playing the right way at all.
The confused were the players who wanted to play power struggle [Dolan loves me best] and were losing when Dolan didn't jump around like a star-struck puppet.
I mean, there was one game where Jennings was yanked for yet another bone-headed play and he went to the bench , picked up a clipboard and started to draw up a play. Breen and Frazier commented, [I'm paraphrasing] "WTF is this guy doing?"
This is a team that has a contingent of smart young players and a contingent of belligerent and not-so-smart others who are lucky to find their arse with both hands. They will forever be confused no matter where they go.

They went 9-3, then Phil started his media war...Phil wasn't happy with success away from the triangle..This sews distrust with the players..The media, Melo haters included, is telling you ALL the players hate Phil..
You could say it's about Melo a million times and it doesn't mean that it is....
YOU are the one that wants this to be about Phil. It's really not about the Triangle switch. Phil and Jeff both agree on the direction and the younger players showed they can execute the offense Jeff has them running.
Phil at his Press Conference was supportive of Jeff's Offense as he has tweaked the Triangle. Phil accepted Jeff's early Offense but only wanted to make sure they were able to also execute in half court, late game type situations and so they refocused on fundamentals of the Triangle. The kids actually get it and also defended better. So by the end of the season they left on a positive note.
The negativity was all about Melo being forced out. KP doesn't want that but he's not running things! I'm confident that KP will apologize to Phil and Jeff cuz he was wrong to skip the Exit Meeting. KP will get over this and assume his position as a key player going forward hopefully WITHOUT MELO!

So what's was "confused from TOP to BOTTOM" statement about, approximately a month ago, that everyone pretended didn't happen??The TOP had no right speaking for THE BOTTOM who have no trouble playing the right way at all.
As long as Phil mettles, it will be this way..I have been saying it for three years..Hire competent coaches and allow them to run their offense...Phil is the de facto coach of this team...
There's little wrong with the offense. more is always better but the losing came from defense [M-e-l-o paralysis].

So what's was "confused from TOP to BOTTOM" statement about a few weeks ago that everyone pretended didn't happen?People keep bringing up KP's comments out of context.

To me it's irrelevant because so much happened between that point and the end of the season. As I said minus Rose, BJ and with much less Melo, we got to see the team execute what the coaches have been trying to teach them to do. More Effort and improved execution is what we saw. They didn't have superior talent but you could see the vision taking shape.
The Phil detractors are WRONG! We have to move Melo to really see this team develop into a REAL TEAM. Phil wants Ball and Player movement and Jeff has the team doing that with his motion offense and some Triangle. We saw that more clearly minus the Ball Stopper.

You could say it's about Melo a million times and it doesn't mean that it is....YOU are the one that wants this to be about Phil.
Why did Phil speak out in the media after the team went 9-3?
What do you think he said?
look it up...You my not ave been paying attention...Phil started with saying Melo was holding the ball with a CBS interview, then Rosen came out with ahit job...
Does Melo hold the ball?
Does Rosen need Phil to observe that?
Does Phil need Rosen to speak for him?
Did the media spin the story out of context?

I think KP spoke to Melo and after hearing Melo's take on things KP got his bright idea. SMH! Melo is a F'n AWFUL Role Model!!!
I expect KP will eventually apologize to Phil and Jeff. Perhaps his brother or parents might talk some sense into him or maybe Dirk.
So what's was "confused from TOP to BOTTOM" statement about a few weeks ago that everyone pretended didn't happen?People keep bringing up KP's comments out of context.

Well it changed the tenor of the season...Like his press conference, it showed you Phil isn't capable as the President of Basketball Operations..

We get it! The NTC is a problem. Still Melo has to go!
Phil is not clueless!!! If you think Phil is wrong about what kind of team he wants to build please explain what he said that was wrong? What aspects of Unselfish Team Play are wrong?
Do we want Melo Ball or Team Ball? I say F Melo! I want to see a real team playing together unselfishly and giving Max Effort on D! Melo doesn't stand for those things so I don't support him at this point. Let him take his crap elsewhere.
That's how you interpreted what Phil said. Phil clearly has a lot of work to do along with his GM Mills! Phil is not the GM. Phil is not a scout. He wants to help his young coach as much as he can and that's his prerogative. There's no rule that says a Prez can't do Mentoring.
Phil has a lot to offer a coach with limited experience. You want make this something negative but it doesn't have to be. Jeff and Phil seem to be on the same page on this. If Jeff has a problem with it he can say so. Phil says they talk all the time.
