Knicks · If your not building your team to play like these 4 teams your toast (page 1)

knicks1248 @ 5/3/2017 2:01 PM
Boston. Houston, Cave, GSW..Launching 3s at 40 to 50 of them per game, and running every chance you get..You remember when the playoffs became a half court grind out chess match..Ha. that seems like decades ago, because I'm watching these teams shoot 3s on almost every possessio no matter the shot clock, it could be 22 seconds or 2 seconds.

Forget about defending it consistently, it's virtually impossible. The spurs, wizards jazz and Rapts are pretty much done, they dont have enough shooters to keep up. The only way to keep up is to do the same thing. The triangle is a half court game, At this point at least 75% of your roster should be able to hit a 3 at any given moment..

Boston and Hoston have made most people eat their words, because they didn't think MDAs attack would work in the playoffs, and they keep saying Isaiah is to small., yet they keep proving them wrong every game.

You mention 4 teams that went through extended losing periods while acquiring the talent they currently have. You like to FF through the losing and just look at the finished product.

Boston stunk while rebuilding. So did Boston. Boston as well. How do you quantify those bad periods as productive? While those teams had bad records and were losing what were they doing during that period that the Knicks are not doing now?

waiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiit !!! boston , boston and boston all stunk! i agree wholeheartedly

EnySpree @ 5/3/2017 2:21 PM
What happened to San Antonio or Miami?

There will always be top teams and there will always people saying if you street passing Like them then you are toast. When Phil was winning everyone wasted the next Kobe and Shaq...

The goal is to be the best Knicks team we can be, not copy whoever is successful. If tv's Knicks followed through even we had Dantoni instead of scrapping everything to be the next Boston Celtics big three in the LeBron sweepstakes we'd be ok.

Anyway... shhhhhhh

Bostons best players are players they either traded for or sign via FA

Cavs beat GS by getting in Curry's grill, kept him from getting into a rhythm. Full court press, make them work for every point.

Curry also got injured in the previous series.

Thats true, but the defense that was played on Curry was stifling. Most teams up to that point gave Curry a ridiculous amount of daylight to shoot. In the finals, whenever Curry got the ball, someone more often than not, was all over him. LeBron gave Curry nightmares when he was his assignment. It was a step up from how teams usually defend him IMO.

Knixkik @ 5/3/2017 2:41 PM
Agreed. Need to be a 3pt shooting team to win today. The nice thing is, KP is a great 3pt shooting F/C. He's the ideal center for the future of basketball. Surround him with 4 guys who can shoot and defend and it's a good plan.

I don't know if you were around when the knicks were ELITE, but we saw the same teams in the ECF, Bulls, Knicks, pacers, Heat (with Zo) half court physical teams, and that was the way to play if you had any shot..Its the ERA that dictates the style, so you can go against the grain if you want, statistics don't lie..it is the way to go..

ENYSPREE you keep endorsing the triangle like it's been working well for us

Nets were one of the top team for 3PA this past season - their percentage was bad - but clearly, they are building the right way...

true, But phil was thrilled about the game kp didn't take one 3 in a game. It's no secrete he's not a fan of that shot

Actually their biggest problem was defense.

The injury didn't allow for Curry to get separation which aided the Cavs.

you're trolling man, just stop it please.

I'll say this once again, Jeff Hornacek has been trying to bring his Offensive Schemes to the Knicks. The same Schemes that Kerr said he stole from Jeff when he was coaching PHX! If you actually pay any attention to what the Knicks ran it was full of Modern Offensive Tactics.

EARLY OFFENSE! SPREAD PNR! More 3's and more motion! I'm not sure why this still hasn't been acknowledged by some fans and the Media.

Im not endorsing the triangle... I never even mentioned the triangle.

The Knicks don't need to jump on the bandwagon. We're not going to be good enough to face the top teams if this era.... we are building to catch the next wave. When all these elite teams are full of 33-35 year olds, our young core will be between 22-28.... our goal is to be in the next group of elite teams

Phil has mocked teams that shoot a lot of 3s too. Hopefully he's watching and learning. I think 1248 raises a legitimate concern.

Well if we are looking for consistency about how people felt about three point shooting we should probably review OP's comments from when D'Antoni was coaching and see how much he loved 3 point shooting then. I am betting you will find he ridiculed it quite as much as he ridicules the triangle now. While I don't particularly care what system we play, I do care about playing system basketball. And it's clear that the current roster is easily confused by system basketball and they want to "just play ball..."(code for iso heavy chucking). This was the exact thing D'Antoni tried to build with Melo as the centerpiece. The problem with our roster isn't what system or lack of we implement. We have gone through enough variations in the last 6 years the problem is with the personnel trying to implement it or in most cases not trying at all.
