Ahem, PhilC. This is what you said in Briggs thread

Obi can’t hit the broad side of a barn this year from beyond the arc.

HofstraBBall @ 1/1/2022 12:33 PM
Obi will be as good or as bad as realistic and unrealistic expectations. How about we show patience, let him develop and try to get the most out of him during his stay here. As we should do with all our picks.
Panos @ 4/9/2022 8:40 AM
Ping.
After two years in the league, maybe still be premature, but...
How are we feeling about this choice these days?
Vmart @ 4/9/2022 10:29 AM
I honestly believe that Obi would be far ahead of the curve had it not been for Thibs. The Knicks offense is awful 4th worst in the league. Better coach and I think all the young players are in a way better situation.

Obi was a solid pick. I wish he was a little taller and stronger on defense and we could play him and Randle together. As it stands, either Randle or Obi will be traded by next summer. They both are good enough to start and they are both too weak on defense to start at center or even play big minutes at center. One has to be traded eventually.

Back to the point: anyone regretting passing on Avidja?
KnickDanger @ 4/9/2022 4:52 PM
I wanted Halliburton and a case could be made that we should have taken him. But there are a lot of games left for these guys to play and one cannot assume how things would have played out.

I always give it 5 years for clairity. The wiz are irrelevant. But so are knicks. Dani was like 19 when drafted?

He was COY last year.

Not this year.

If Randle played like he did this year, would Thibs get COY?

If Randle wasnt in his contract year, and wasn't motivated to dominate, similar to how hes not motivated this year, would Thibs get COY?

We give Thibs and really all coaches a little too much credit, in my humble opinion. Some coaches deserve it yes, but others don't. I'll just say that. Players control teams. And Randle for some reason, is not the right fit, when you look at the entire current roster. Whether it's Elf and Bullock that left, who he was close to. Or off the court issues at home. The point is.....

I believe Obi, IQ and some of the other rookies (Deuce and Sims) would've developed a little more by now under a different coach. I'm just agreeing with the original poster. With that said.....

I'm very happy with the development of these yoots so far. We have a good problem to have. Team full of young promising players with loads of potential and age on their side. I hope this is enough data for the FO to make logical moves and not rushed or panic moves to rush into a playoff team build. Kemba and EF are players you add to a championship ready or playoff team. Randle got his money and lost his motivation or mental distractions at home or team chemistry. Nobody knows but Randle. What I do know?

It's time to go. Yes he's our best player, but we not going anywhere far with him right now. Either load up the team with super stars and all stars, around Randle, then that works. But if Randle is the best player and the offense runs through him, no thanks.

Bump
I think this is the year we'll finally be able to definitively put this question to rest

Avidja? What is that, bottled water?

If you have to ask “Is he still in the league?” Then you got your answer 🤔

wargames @ 10/10/2022 9:33 AM
Glad to see I was optimistic on Obi and thought he needed to play better defense. In hindsight Randle became the LJ like player and Obi stayed a monster dunker… For now.

Would Phil have been a good coach without Jordan? God this is so stupid. Thibs is a 2x COY. He literally took the Miller/Fizdale dumpster fire and rode it a 4th seed. Yeah... lets pretend Thibs got too much credit. You guys are funny.

Thank you fish for the reply. But did you know you are commenting on a 6 month old post? 🤦‍♂️

If you have any thoughts or comments on my thinking today I’m all ears.

No I do not give Phil as much credit as most. Same can be said about COY Thibs.

How do I feel 6 months later, since you care enough to reply to my 6 month old post.

Thibs is doing better based on the end of last year and preseason. We will see if this carry’s over to the regular season. COY Thibs is a great coach to have for a veteran team. I’m not changing my stance on that. He’s a coach players love which is great to have. What has he done for the yoots on our team? He’s done a good job so far since everyone listens and there’s no rebellion from the yoots. They respect him and that’s all you can ask for.

As far as Thibs the COY and how he handles in game changes, roster rotations, offense plays especially after timeouts or 2nd half. Offensive plays in general, does he have any? Or does he allow the team to just make it up based on what they see on the court 🤔 We will see come mid season! I will hold my comments on thigs until I see some regular season games.

blkexec @ 10/10/2022 2:36 PM
I believe everybody can change and grow into a better coach or player. This life we live is not stagnant. RJ was rough around the edges but those edges are smoothing out. You can say the same about Thibs. He’s growing and changing all the time. Balancing politics from the FO and winning games while giving the yoots some PT. The FO put thibs in this position. Thibs didn’t hire himself.

But back to the thread, RJ is here and ready to prove Martin wrong. 😆

LETS GO KNICKS

meh its been the same song for awhile... you will find some Thibs axe to grind.

Next up: all last year Thib's "let" Julius be immature and didnt hold him accountable
This year: New Julius playing inside the offense and having a great bounce back year is Brunson's leadership, not Thibs

That's my next guess... what do you think?

I hate to admit when someone is right, but I believe your spot on. 🤣 Guess I’ve been singing the same song for a while. At least im consistent.

But I will definitely give Thibs his props where it’s deserved. And come on now, Thibs plays a part into Randles turnaround (assuming that happens). But without a doubt, Brunson (and the FO) will and should get most of the props for paying Brunson and Brunson game allows others (RJ and Randle) to play their roll, instead of this point forward stuff.

But I’ve never been a thibs fan as a head coach. But I can change. Just not from a thread discussion. 😝
