His usage is certainly higher.
But looking at SF recently like Hayward, George and Brown and their progression it’s hard not to be excited with what he could become. He’s an All Star in the future there is no doubt, at his age what he’s doing is spectacular. When him and Randle play well we usually win which is a testament in itself.
He’s just going to work himself into the best possible version of himself.
Martin: you still short on RJ or coming around to the light? We forgive and forget on this forum

The Zion hype died down fast- don't watch the Pelicans but I hardly hear or see anything of him
Interesting contrast between vs Lavine.
RJ is a student of form and his game at 20 is being honed with accuracy and precision. Seemingly no two Lavine shots are the same.
Very good off balance shooter using a natural athletic ability. Not quite Kobe fluid like.
There are times RJ just looks.......I done know.....20?
So far the fundamentals keep him relatively injury free. Lavine is gifted. RJ seems to work on all facets of his game.
I get his game is more forced than natural and look forward to the next five years when he should be hitting his prime!

I'd be interested in the per 36 because I would bet a dollar he is #1 in minutes played. Not to downplay the results, but worth noting the differentials.

Tommy cherry picks these stats for a reason hahahaha that said, I'm encouraged that he's improving. Still has a ways to go, but he's getting there.
I'm a long term buyer in RJ's high level potential/talent

how high? All star? Jimmy Butler caliber?
I think Jimmy Butler is a good comp in that they are similar athletically (very good but not great), physical/body type (solid) and both hard working.

I think Jimmy Butler is a great comp. I also see some iguodala in the sense that he can eventually do everything well and be an allstar in the right situation without being his team's top option.

Just my 2 cents, but my opinion is I don't get the Butler comparison at all. Butler is a an Elite level defender, seems to have a much smaller stature and a different game. Butler is a speed slasher to me.
Iguodala is an interesting comp...
I keep saying it, RJ reminds me so much of Paul Pierce. A bruiser SG/SF who depends more on his physicality on his drives than speed. Their body types are the same, both players are very good from mid range. Now Pierce really didn't crank up his defense until KG and Allen got there but RJ is a very solid defender (I don't think he is anywhere near Butler's level yet). Pierce was a pretty good at everything but the best at nothing type of player and I see that from RJ. I think he is my favorite player on this version of the Knicks, so that is where I am coming from.
I dont know. I could be wrong but he just reminds me of the old school bruiser SF/SG from back in the day like Pierce, Bonzie Wells, Isiah Rider (without the Hops)....

Yes, that's the upside target.

I see the Paul Pierce comp to. RJ game is deliberate is the best way to put it. Only thing is he has more wiggle/stutter in his game to go along with the battering ram style than Pierce to shake off defenders since he does not have the jets to blow by them....

I can see some of the Paul Pierce comparisons. But Paul was bigger, had a purer jumpshot and had an easier time getting his shot off. I think guys like Caron Butler and Butler are better comps.

Agreed...was Pierce shooting like that when he came out of Kansas? I don't remember....his Yr1 - Yr2...I believe RJ has the mentality to get there..yess Pierce was bigger...but RJ is no slouch..you see the way bodying up Kawhi....he played him tough...Kawhi still got his ....but he had to work...RJ makes up for a 6'7-6'8 size with strength......

Paul wasn't that good a shooter his freshman year, but he improved a lot his sophomore year. Even as pro, Paul had a couple of bad three point shooting years. I think it was because defenses were keyed in on him.

Pierce was a 4 year college player and could shoot out of the gate as a 21 year old rookie. Pierce was in the league for a LOOONG time and all I can remember was Pierce in his prime when he had all the tools in his game. He was like a slightly less explosive Kobe.
Jimmy Butler was a 22 year old rookie and didn't look like he had the makings of an all-star until his 4th season.
RJ seems like more of a north south player at this point - when he drives, he drives hard. He hasn't unleashed a lot of trickery in his game, post ups, fadeaways, spin moves. As he adds little tidbits to his arsenal (and continues to gain confidence on his jumper), he'll become a more effective offensive player. From a defensive standpoint, he's improved leaps and bounds year over year. At this point, it's actually nice to say that his Defensive rating of 111 has now matched Jimmy Butler's worst season. :)
(Maybe he'll work out with Duke brethren Tatum and Ingram next summer and get some pointers on how they made the leap from good to elite)
