Me too. He was overworked throughout the regular season and come playoff basketball it was his first time on that big of a stage and just tried too hard to impress. That playoff struggle vs. Atlanta is going to develop him into an ever better basketball player.
It's crazy watching that video. Watching/Hearing him say his next goal outside of an NBA Championship is an MVP award has me FIRED UP because I've been telling as many people as I can that this kid has more than just All-Star potential. He's got league MVP potential written all over his style of play and his numbers last season of statistical production were damn near identical to MVP Jokić last year. And i truly believe with Kemba Walker at the PG position that Julius Randle will win the 2021-2022 MVP award. Because there is no player within the game today who's more valuable to his NBA team than Julius Randle is to our Knicks.
His comments about Coach of the Year Tom Thibs was awesome to see. How he consideres Thibs as the best coach and most dedicated coach he's ever had was an awesome watch for me because I absolutely love Thibs he's already my favorite NY coach since Riley/JVG and it's intriguing to know how former players such as Derrick Rose and Taj Gibson can't get enough of him and neither can Julius Randle. I love it.
PS: Watch out for Julius Randle Jr. That little man has mad basketball ability already!
Question about Kemba Walker. There is no way we can kepp him beyond next season correct? If he bounces back and becomes an All Star again we have no way to resign him. We don't have his bird rights and we have no cap room. That means we can only afford the mid level. If im wrong someone correct me. Its awesome that the Knicks got him for free but if we can't sustain it that sux.

I think the Knicks signed Walker to a 2 year deal, starting around $9M. After 2 years, the Knicks will have his Early Bird rights, meaning they can sign him to 175% of his salary or 105% of the league average, whichever is higher.
So, let's say year 2 is $10M, Knicks can offer him $17.5M while being over the cap.

Just because he was eligible does not mean it was on the table. He himself just did the “ny is a destination thing” but it was internal. He knows he cannot do what he did last season each year and for the team to succeed he needs to not be its 1st option. This was brilliant all around but it was a realistic statement by a mature man who knows chasing the money could have enriched him but not fulfilled his career. He will have plenty money either way. More than enough to be happy.

yeah and some folks like having us "at best a play in team" for this year based on that as well.
We got him some legit help. We were not likely supposed to be this good this fast, but Jules changed expectations. The guy is a foundation player... go get us more

If you flop in the Playoffs, people will remember that the most because that's where you earn the big bucks, had he propelled us to the ECF or even the 2nd round, that contract is about 30 mill more
This is great! He is well deserved of this extension. With the weapons we’ve added plus retaining our best FA’s. Randles job just got a lot easier. There were a lot of games where I thought Randle should have had a triple double but his passes to wide open mediocre talent ended in bricks . Now with kemba and Fournier, Randle can just let the game come to him.. if healthy this is the best knick team I’ve seen on paper … if Ewing had this roster in 94 we would be seeing a championship banner from that year ..
This extension also shows other stars that we have our shit together and we reward our stars.

The troll special here is this: Randle and Jayson Tatum statistically were pretty close. Randle's All NBA nod was based on the Knicks outperforming expectations and the Celtics underperforming. For Randle，it was recognition of his place in the upper stratosphere of the NBA. For Tatum a second All NBA spot， would have been all that plus a ticket to a super max extension. It's hard to put a price on that kind of peer recognition， but for Tatum you can make a pretty close guess. That Randle accepted an even lesser amount to stay on the Knicks has to hurt even more. I'm not sure how he feels but if I was Tatum， now is the time when I start to question a franchise that has squandered it's luck since his arrival， turning Kyrie and Hayward into Schroeder and Horford seems like the wrong direction. By comparison， his best buddy's front office has somehow turned the worst contract in NBA history into a bunch of plug and play guys with Finals and ample playoff experience. Celtics have a lot to prove going forward.

“People” don’t set the contract. There are analytics and logical discussions/arguements that point to precedence set by others as bench marks. Performance is of course important. Supply and demented matters. If another team presents an offer or management senses a player they want is valued by others it matters.
Injury history matters. Marketability and character also weight in.
Pegging a player on one series like you suggest? Why not just give him playoff incentives as part of the contract? Player can come back and point to other players, coaching gaffs, and the simple fact ATL was just a better team with greater depth at that moment.
