Thats what I think too. Zero explosion with the ball in his hands. Not going to be able to blow by defenders with a quick first step. His shooting release is slow too.

With iq rose McBride and rokas we are prob more than full at pg. we may have to rethink major type moves

He will fit perfectly taking over Deuce's spot in Westchester.

That's got to be several carries in a row but who cares right?

looks like a middle schooler playing pick up ball

Rokas is no doubt using his leverage to gain a promise and money.
His path? I agree a trade is a comin’…………
We have to get real about some of our yoot. Some have to go. Need rooms for picks to land also.
The piece we have play chess with are not going to remain stagnent most likley.
Sometimes you have to sacrifice one for the greater good. Its why I say Mitch can walk. I get without a replacement to discuss its not a popular choice. Blind faith? Maybe. Stupidity? Won’t know until it plays out.
Jimbo5 @ 4/13/2022 3:55 AM
It will be an important summer for Rokas, i think this offseason the Knicks will finally have clarity on a starting PG. Either the FO will trade for a long term PG if they still think IQ is not ready,
Or they hand the keys to IQ.

I think if Rokas plays hardball and stay in Europe, it will take a while for him to wear a knicks uniform. With the way Thibs is managing his roster, we might be able to see 8-10mins from Deuce. Deuce seems like the Obi of this year's rookie class and Grimes is the IQ who got more playing time. If Rokas stays put for next season, i think it will be hard for him to get a roster spot in the near future.

His great season does create some leverage to gain a better payday and promise to compete for a job. If that is not in front of him, then his agent could find a trade that does.
We pretend there are other coaches that don’t do the same as Thibs?
In my view Thibs gave a lot of minutes to yoot. Why? Roster was full of them. HE had to. Did he develop them? He did. Is it to fans delight? Never really is when team is losing.
In the 3-13 stretch that killed the season, in retrospect does it make sense to try to turn it around with yoot or vets? I get the argument. Fact is Thibs did well with yoot and…………saved his job at the same time.

He had little choice and in the end it saved his job. On Merit of course!

Rokas is still very young and his season gives him choices and with it leverage. More competition the better.
The better he and others perform the higher trade value they have.

But lets be real, we might be over valuing our guys as we see them thru a narrow focus. Bring in Rokas and a rookie, thats two bodies that have to leave.

With how our FO has been drafting, I have faith he will be able to contribute. We don't draft superstars but we do draft role players who can contribute.

RSparrow2 @ 5/4/2022 10:34 PM
I disagree, think he can be a great guy off the bench ..
Alpha1971 @ 5/8/2022 6:52 AM
If they can convince him to come thay would be great for the team. But Barcelona is a beautiful City and Spain a beautiful country. Rokas is probably enjoying himself massively. Team has to make it worth his time and in the pocket book. Offer him a two year deal with second year team option. Make it a trial offer for him and so he isn't locked in. First year for what Taj got and waive Taj ( then don't extend Taj's unguarantee deal ) and this way you have Rokas on a trade able contract to deal for another player on a rookie deal. Best case scenario. Rokas does well and we keep him bad case he doesn't like it here and we trade the asset for a pick or in a deal. Too much talent to not bring him over. If Rokas stays in Europe if he balls out again does that really raise his value league wide for a possible trade, I don't think so unless he is under a NBA contract.
Nalod @ 5/8/2022 9:57 AM
If he was a first round pick where would he be?
Thats the contract he’ll likley ask for? He is young and showed up.
He’ll want multi year pact like a first round pick would get?

I think you will find the Knicks signing him to a 3+ year deal, with at least 2 years guaranteed. It makes sense for both sides to make sure his Bird Rights are in tact.

It'll be interesting to see what the offseason moves are for the Knicks, they have IQ and Rose as PGs (and McBride in the wing) and I don't know if Rokas would feel he could get enough playing time.

His current salary is most likely < $500K and I think I recall his NBA buyout at ~$750K, so factor those numbers in.

I am wondering if he has more value stashed overseas - and our trade package could be his rights, Obi, Dallas 1st rounder and filler.

If he has the potential to help, even if we think he is a year away, we should get him over here sooner in case he can get minutes sooner. No one would have expected Grimes to get the play & production he did.

100% cause his value is the same as a future draft pick and there is no salary to consider.

NICE!

Feel like he would be a top 15 pick in this year's draft, especially considering it's a weak PG draft

Great job by our FO! can we give GM scott perry some love here? HE was the GM that drafted Knox but also OBI, IQ, Simms, grimes, and deuce! And a great euro stash! Phil drafted Frankie Nicotine as a reminder.
Kudos to this FO who to a last man have value on our bench to develop or trade. we are over stocked and not all will return next year. we are prime to do deals.

Rokas price and leverage will go up. So will his trade value. This award is nice but it does not make him a sure lock for playing time. What do the scouts think of his projections? Defense? Compares to IQ on both ends? Does another team covent him? What if we packaged him and our 12th pick can we move up to grab someone our FO rates as top choice in top 4-8th?

Awards never suck and his play dictates knicks did a good thing!!!!!

OK I am def upgrading him from fringe prospect. There is no doubt after winning this award and shooting what he did vs. top EU competition he would be a first rounder this year, possibly even lottery.
