What is Thibs thinking?

Agree completely. Once Thibs FINALLY gives in and plays McBride (which is also when Rose is coming back) we need to bench both IQ and Burks for several games so they can get this stuff out of their systems

The thing is I think McBride will have his up and downs mostly due to him not being able to break down the defense but he needs NBA minutes to figure things out. His defense alone will be a much needed boost for the team.

Our defense at the PG spot is horrific
If he gets unleashed, one can either say “I told you so”, or “Thibs got it right, got him ready for it”.
Berman can paint the narrative for readers which helps his readership.

I thought you had to earn your playing time. If he been good in practice and still getting 0 minutes how would he ever be able to earn anything? Yall still believing Thibs and his BS? Remember he said Grimes earned his playing time in practice when everyone knows it was because he actually finally got a chance when he played due to covid. People for some reason think players and coaches can't ever tell a lie to media.

Great point. I noticed that with Grimes how Thibs claims he's killing in practice, which justifies his play. But if it wasn't for Covid, Grimes wouldn't be playing this good right now. Thibs had a chance to inject Deuce when he removed Kemba, but instead he used Burks which was the beginning of his down falls along with IQ, who Thibs also used at PG, instead of Deuce.
These are the last 2 games and they only show the good stuff obviously.
What is the raw scouting from the fans? What are you seeing from McBride?
Like this level of stuff but add more:
- Defense seems decent
- Shoots well
- Shoots 3pointers well
- not a good dribbling in traffic
Thibs has given guys like IQ, Grimes rotation minutes. What gives with McBride that he is holding him back?

That's a whole game and I don't think we will have any takers there, just folks who like to shout out that he should start or play.

A fan watching a full g-league game is not going to change anything. I don't even think people who want him to play are saying he is going to be an all star. We are saying to just try something different. Give the guy a legit chance. Give him time to make mistakes and learn from them. He can't be worse than Quick/Burks/Kemba. His defense alone will make that hard. People are apathetic to the main team so not many are going to watch a full g-league game when with Thibs McBride probably wont get a good chance to prove anything anyway. Rookies who had been getting playing time from the start are looking better now and giving it to Thibs every chance they get because they learned from their mistakes. McBride never got that chance so him making mistakes are expected.

Exactly clean. I don’t care if deuce never played a G league game. My take would not change. Deuce is a defensive combo guard that played PG for a very respectable defensive old school coach. At the draft I said that’s a perfect match for thibs. I was thinking deuce had a better chance at making the rotation since PG was and always been our weakness. Grimes only played because Covid created that need.
Personally I think thibs is not playing deuce for political reasons, regarding the FO and not making them look bad. When u are in that position, you typically over play and sacrifice team wins until the FO demands thibs to sit the vets. Otherwise thibs plays vets as a default. But if the FO made trades just to clear up roster spots, thibs would have no choice but to play deuce.

I think you associate the Deuce with yourself many years ago and see in him some faded glory. But multiple sportswriters and commentators simply don't rate him very highly.
This is not to say that he isn't worth developing but I suspect he's a minor talent with a catchy nickname.
Changes are coming.
And how are we suppose to know what deuce can do? If thibs don’t play him? I don’t care if he’s the most average PG in the league. Elfred was the worse PG to some knick fans and bullock is a scrub. But they worked for Randle and RJ.
Deuce definitely has a catchy name and reminds me of me when I played. And sure I used to scream at the tv, saying the Knicks need me to run the point.
But sometimes you don’t need to surround your star players with stars. The bulls won multiple chips with average PGs and Centers. You just need players to play their roles. And news flash, defense is not the best attribute in Randle and RJ. So they need someone at the point of attack. That’s deuce strong suit. We need someone to put pressure on the ball handler to disrupt their offensive flow. Need someone with a football mentality to fight over and thru screens. We need youth energy injected into the starting lineup. We need a PG who can keep the defense honest by scoring the ball. Um that’s deuce.
No I’m not saying he’s the missing superstar that Thibs doesn’t know about. In fact he’s a perfect role player to me to play with guys like Randle and RJ. See if it works. At least you go into the off-season knowing what we have in inventory.
This is my new 10. Let them play a good stretch together.
Obi F
Deuce PG
Cam F
Sims C
Mitch C
Randle F
RJ SG / F
Rose PG
IQ SG
Grimes SG
Solid 10. I bet they would’ve beat the Nets and OKC

This has been my issue since very early on, when it was clear this team wasn't as good as we thought. Whether it's a roster issue or rotation issue, it was clear to me. So why should we play the vets, hurt youth development and lose games at the same time. When in fact, we are in a position to develop youth, and win or lose, it's good for our young guys to play against NBA players and not just in practice. win or lose, it's a learning opportunity for the yoots. It's also a great way to see their value. Cam is due for an extension. Need to know if Cam is worth the long term investment. We need a PG and we have Deuce on the shelf. Need to know if Deuce is a solid starter, bench player or trade asset that will continue to play in the G league until a large trade occurs. Same with Sims. Where does he rank on this team? Is he a starter, bench player or trade asset? So many questions can be addressed prior to the end of the season. This will make our off season moves more accurate, vs shooting in the dark, like we did with Kemba and Fournier.
Just thinking hypothetically, if there was a way to see how Kemba and Fournier fit with Thibs system and with this roster, prior to giving them all this money, would the FO still sign them? Hell no. Gotta see if Cam, Deuce, Sims, etc....are short or long term solutions. For example, what if Deuce is the PG we were looking for, but since we haven't played him, we draft a PG and add a PG in free agency. Then realize Deuce is a keeper. We just created a log jam, similar to when we gave Randle all that money and still used a high pick on Obi. Vs using a high pick on a need (PG or Wing Defender or Center). Starting PF was not a need.
Heres our chance to do better Leon Rose and company. Lets go Thibs. Show me something. Prove me wrong that you are not just a defensive coach that lacks offensive creativity. That you play vets over yoots. Prove me wrong please Leon, that you will give Thibs the green light to play the yoots and not grade him on wins and losses. So that Thibs doesn't feel that pressure to win every game. Maybe he would've pulled RJ out the game sooner? Knowing we have other yoots like Cam who needs the run, especially when the game is out of hand. Development should now be first, wins should be second. Or Play the vets to increase their value, while increasing our draft ranking. Well, if we are losing with vets, their trade value will drop eitherway.

I agree with pretty much everything you said. The youth might sink or swim but it better to know what you have than to not know.

Say it differently. The coaching staff and FO pretty much know what they have cause they see it in practice. YOU need to see it as a fan just to see it with your own eyes.
