I think he's staying- back when he fell off a cliff, I hoped it was because we had a move lined up and he'd found out about it. All the insider info/bball writers this week have basically said there is no deal lined up, merely we're exploring/open to the idea, but say it's more likely he stays.

Nobody wants Randle’s contract. We might be able to stretch provision it and ultimately we might be forced to

I will admit I'd feel really bad about sending Kyden to Sacramento.

In the other thread he ruined his good summary statement with that gem as well. Whoever said NY fans were the most knowledgeable in sports deserves a black eye.

The next seven days will be a reincarnation of the film "Thirteen Days"

TheGame @ 2/3/2022 4:58 PM
The Knicks will explore but ultimately will not trade Randle. They will try to trade Walker but will likely end up cutting him. Burks is the only asset that will likely move. The Knicks will try to get a 1st round pick but they will likely settle for a high second round pick. That move along with cutting Walker will allow some time for Reddish. The only other move might be Mitch but I think they will keep Mitch and try to resign him.

No need to even cut Kemba, just sit him like they did before.

jskinny35 @ 2/3/2022 5:19 PM
Any value in dealing Burks and Kemba for Dragic? He'd be a stopgap but at least we'd have a PG that understands ball movement and could offer some short-term guard play while Rose recovers. He expires at the end of the season so we'd free up money sooner and could allow minutes for Cam, Fournier to assume Burks role, etc...

I thought I had heard and read here on UK that Dragic was angling for a buy out to join Dallas on the cheap.

No apparently Toronto is offering a first with him in scenarios. Why? I would expect a team would trade a first and a player for that kind of cap relief, no?

Personally I would love to acquire him - I don't think he is old like Kemba but maybe he is.

TLover @ 2/3/2022 9:57 PM
Still believe in the adage that you don’t trade a big for a small — would not trade Randle for Fox but not opposed to trading him if the deal is right.

Either Burks or Fournier would probably need to me moved so we can see what Reddish has to offer.

After this road trip could be all about lottery balls.

Oh right I forgot teams are lining up to trade for Randle and his 4 year $100+ million quagmire contract that starts next year

gradyandrew @ 2/4/2022 3:46 AM
He will be something like the 40th highest paid guy in the league and his contract is for the years when player's value usually peaks (mid to late 20's). It might not be the best but it's certainly a long way away from stretch territory.

A lot of obsession about Randle......he's in your head (perhaps not quite as much as Mentality is in your head from whatever Jets board you frequent).

Just curious how you would know if there is interest or is not interest in Randle from other teams. Do you have a direct line to Leon and all the other NBA Front Offices? Waiving a player or stretching a player is generally done when a team has no more use for that player. Not sure how you are making the case that the Knicks have no use for Randle when he is currently playing 35+ mpg. While his performance has dropped and even if the value of his contract is high when compared - why would the Knicks even think of waiving/stretching a player they are playing 35+ minutes a game?

Further - why would the Knicks eat Randle's salary at all? Worst case scenario - if they had to move him, why not just wait for another team to have an injury/gap or add incentives to a trade deal (i.e. draft pick or take on another team's salary dump)? He certainly has use and he's always available to play / not injury prone.

I'm hoping you've at least done your research to understand how the stretch works. If the Knicks stretched Randle sometime before September 1 2022 - he would remain on their books for 9 more years though the 2030-31 season @ $13M per season cap hit / dead cap space. Since obviously this is never going to happen I guess if the Knicks don't manage to trade him, you'll just have to live with all that pent up Randle anger inside of you.

I don’t care about money
Does Julius Randle appear to be a player who can be a main cog on a championship team? My answer last year would’ve been he could. BUT the majority of his career no. So it’s either he somehow regains form( possible) or he is moved for whatever. I’d personally cut bait here if I was offered a reasonable noble package( mainly can I open up the salary)We shut down 2 years of free agency on fake news vets

Nalod @ 2/4/2022 9:37 AM
What was his performance value last year? 30-35mm a year?
Did he sign for that?
not even close.
We don’t need him to be last years Randle for his contract to be a value.
Its imbecilic to even suggest stretching him.

Perhaps Briggs don’t care about money but don’t one cannot come up and be taken seriously if you don’t factor that in to any conversation. Brock Aller sole existence is to care about money and the sequence that matters to roster construction.
It matters. perhaps some fans can’t be bothered by such inconvenience but there a reality.

And if you look at the multiplier of taxes and how that works its not just about an owner willing to pony up, its damn near ignorant to not factor it in.

Jimbo5 @ 2/4/2022 12:03 PM
The De'Aaron Fox rumors have been released and every reporter is picking it up to try to make something out of it. A part of me want to get rid of Randle, this front office is big on high reward deals, is there an upside to trading for Simmons? A none shooter who has thinner skin than Randle. Maybe Fox will be ideal it might plug a long term hole in the starting point guard position, im still unsure if the knicks already have the future starting point guard on their stables. I might consider tradings for Fox if it can also plug the hole left in the starting PF spot. I don't think Thibs will hand obi the keys to the spot. Maybe include Bagley in the deal to have some outside shooting, Holmes doesnt seem to shoot threes.

If the knicks get Fox for Randle, there will be a new hole to fill, i hope the FO can broker two starting quality deals in just 1 day, or else the knicks are still in the same predicament as before the deadline.

This contract for last year Randle is a bargain. The contract for this year Randle is closer to a Wiggins contract. You always have a guy knocking on that All-Star door. I think Randle earns out on this contract for us or anyone else though. The stretch idea is ludicrous.

Jimbo5 @ 2/4/2022 12:19 PM
If the knicks can somehow get Fox for Randle, can the FO make another move and swing for the fence and get Myles Turner and give up Obi, Evan this year's 1st round and the Dallas 1st round.

Kinda true but it's much easier to find a PF vs a PG and it would help simply to not run your offense through a top 35 plodding PF.

If possible - I would move toward a running/uptempo team.

Randle and IQ for J. Collins and a top 20 protected 1st (or early 2nd rounder) and send Burks, Kemba, Noel and 2 #1 picks to Sac for Fox and filler

Could still retain Grimes, RJ, Toppin, Mitch, McBride while picking up a solid PF and PG. Not perfect by any means but attainable if we are willing to use some picks, Randle and part with IQ (could substitute Toppin for IQ probably)

Turner is solid but injured and not sure how he would fit next to Mitch. I suggested J. Collins if we landed Fox because they are both running/uptempo players and I think we need to pick up the pace.

What is the Fox infatuation. His defensive rating is almost as bad as Kemba's - 3rd worst in the league to Kemba's 2nd worst in the league.

He shoots high volume, 41% from the field, 24% from 3. His only upside is that he is fast. I don't understand the interest in Fox.
