Knicks · The NBA summer of fun!……..2022 (DRAFT, FA, Trades) (page 42)

A lot of good info in here. We might be getting more assets from this sign and trade with the Mavs. We don't need to do a sign and trade so we have all the leverage. IF the Mavs want that TPE they will have to give us a 2nd rounder pick or 2.

Also that we want to extend RJ. The real info from the RJ part is that they don't want to pay him the max. If you read between the lines when he says a number that is comfortable to both sides. Everything sounds good to me.

7. Jalen Brunson, PG, Dallas: $29,371,294

Brunson’s strong playoff run for the Mavericks seemingly silenced some of the chatter that A) Dallas might be willing to let him walk, and B) another team could get him for well below the max. Now it seems like any serious offer would have to be for at least $100 million over the next four years, somewhat limiting the potential suitors given the greater difficulty of meeting that threshold in a sign-and-trade. (If you’re wondering about the Knicks, for instance, they’d have to dangle a lot of not terribly desirable filler in front of the Mavs to get a deal done. Good luck with that.)

As a small guard coming off a career year, this BORD$ valuation is likely at the high end of where the league sees Brunson, but he should be able to get into the $25 million a year range.

The more interesting question is what this might do for Dallas’ plans. Increasing his salary from last year’s paltry $1.8 million to such a princely sum will also put the Mavs about $30 million over the luxury-tax line and produce a whopping $85 million check to the league. Something’s gotta give here.

11. Mitchell Robinson, C, New York (restricted): $18,862,212

Robinson supported the idea of paying him like a starting five by staying in the lineup for 72 games last season; the 7-footer also is in the rare position of being an unrestricted free agent at just 24 years old. His athleticism is such that he shoots 72.2 percent for his career and has blocked 7.7 percent of opponent shots in that time, making him an ideal candidate for the shot-blocker/rim-runner role.

So what’s the hold-up? There’s some concern that Robinson has bulked up too much (playing last year at 270 pounds) and that it’s taken away some of the bounciness that had been his best attribute. Additionally, with no skill level or shooting range to speak of, Robinson can be a very limited option offensively, with last season’s 11.4 percent usage rate serving as a prime example.

Overall, I’ll take the under on his BORD$ estimate, even with the upside of his age, but I do think he settles into a deal not too far below this amount annually.

No worries. They will amend that after they actually sign. They will have over paid Brunson (even though a $100 mil contract was predicted) and overpaid an injury prone center.

I'll check again in another week or so to make sure he doesn't change Brunson's valuation to $20M and and Mitchell's to $11M.

Tired of the BS reporting of the Brunson signing, where they emphasis we gave up 6 seconds and ignore we got 3 firsts, as if 2nd round picks are more valuable (in which case those 3 firsts eventually convert into 6 seconds if they never get conveyed!).Just lame analysis. "Oh, I don't understand the draft day trade, or at least I'm pretending not to- if you ignore what the knicks got and only write down what they sent out, then the knicks paid too much." And he gets people to pay for this analysis!

yeah man phuck em... I have never felt so good about the direction of the team. They have publicly said their player development is the most important thing and they really showed that this offseason IMO.

They add Brunson who's ceiling and defensive limitations I have openly complained about. HOWEVER he's the perfect "vet" at 26 years old. He's a coaches dream because he plays and works so hard and truly does the little things that build chemistry and lead to winning. JVG and Derrick Harper going out of their way to say "youre gonna love this guy" should say something. I really think he can do be the kind of player Lowry was for Toronto. We will need more to advance in the playoffs but this guy is a good start and a great mentor/example for the young squad

With RJ/Mitch/IQ/Obi/Grimes/Hart all 24 or under to start the season at least 60% of the rotation is really young rounded out with Brunson (26 kinda young), Randle (28 meh), Fournier and Rose (30+ crowd) the rest of the rotation isnt exactly gimpy

Clean @ 7/6/2022 5:29 PM

He got his money and now he has power to pick where he is traded. The WAS front office gotta get this right or else he is gone.

It's idiot GM's who give Beal a Max and a NTC and trade a gazzilion picks for Gobert that ruin the market and league.

It just takes one or two idiot GM’s to mess up the whole market for everyone else

Right, so this is the start of trying to understand the draft day trade again (for the 100th time)

No more releases yet. So we're still waiting for:

- The OKC-Knicks and Hornets elements of it

- The Brunson signing to be made official (will it turn into a sign and trade- hard to see what we gain at this point from that unless we get a 2nd rounder or something)

- Mitch signing to be made official (will be last to be official as we're using his bird rights)

- Taj's fate (could trade his unguaranteed $5mil salary for an exception or could just waive him to free up the salary to pay Brunson)

- The Signing of Hartenstein to be made official

martin @ 7/7/2022 8:11 AM
For Kemba and Duren to get to Detroit, the OKC-CHA portion of trade had to also go through. Dieng has already played in SL in fact, so that portion was completed on draft night.

I'd have to grade this FA a B if Taj becomes a casualty. Tampering nonsense aside, it's really in the Mavs best interest to get a sign and trade done. They need another guy who can create and it's ridiculous to expect Hardy and Tyler Dorsey to fill the void next season. They also need us to get rid of that first round draft pick protection. It's entertaining when Cubes goes into his Shark Tank persona, but prudent business demands that he just relax and let it happen.

Happy for the young fella. Played himself into a nice contract.

Clean @ 7/7/2022 12:40 PM
Just thought of this but this FO have been doing an amazing job of making the most out of 2nd round picks. We either use them to clear tons of cap or find players like Sims.

So that makes it Hunt and Keels for the two-way. Westchester Knicks for the title baby!

I will play devil’s advocate and say the Knicks did trade out the draft for cap space but were shrewd enough to come away with additional draft pick trade assets to use later. It is highly unlikely the Knicks will draft any of those draft picks they got.

The Knicks FO are Graded a C- minus for their decision making in the offseason on July 7th.
Hope they are not finish making moves .. the tandem of Randle & Barrett are still suspect to failure in the starter lineup.
Selecting a promising defensive combo-guard (Keels) with the 2nd round pick for the backcourt.
Signing a FA combo-guard (Brunson) to twice the $$$ his talent's are worth to be the starter PG.
Getting rid of 2 players the FO shouldn't have signed last season in Noel & Kemba.

IF your doing the grading, we’d come to expect nothing but that grade. At the same time you have no metric to defend the grade other.

37 wins and nothing good came of it?
The ATL series still on your mind?
