Tampered? Of course they did. Leons son is his agent. Thibs assistant is his father, Wes is his godfather........what else?
With all that, Dallas left ever window and door open for this kid to walk KNOWING the relations this guy has with the knicks leadership.
Dallas could have locked him last summer and all season. Did they really have think knicks could not get cap space to do this?

@martin - thx for that vid.

Brunson is pretty slippery. Lots of moves, posts up and drives against bigger, longer opponents and finds a way. Most other guys would pick up their dribble.

He’s got moves like Kyrie or Iverson. :)

I think IQ will benefit the most learning from Brunson. IQ just has that same potential for shiftiness and moves and footwork. It'll be wild to see if his game mirrors Brunson's

Especially when he's doing it for another team

Among NBA guards last season, Brunson owned the fourth-best shooting percentage in the paint (51.4), the fifth-best in the restricted area (67.2), the eighth-best on midrange shots (47.3), and the third-best on corner 3s (50.0). The guy can play.

All these negative/ lukewarm comments about Brunson by media will only bode well for the knicks. I have a feeling he will take all these things personally, i wont be surprised if he takes another step. Once he take on the leadership role it will be interesting if Randle can continue his sulking during the games. JB might just get on his case.

I didn't see him play much but those clips remind me of how Mark Jackson used to move, albeit Brunson is much more physical and seems to be a really good bad shot maker. Looks like he relies more heavily on misdirection through intelligence and not through speed (like a guy like Iverson used to). That type of game ages well. Looks like he loves to trap his defender on his hip for his drives and has a really good post game too, although in that highlight real I'll be honest-i have no idea how some of those shots went in.

As long as he plays average to plus defense, and even at 6-1, with the physicality he like to play with on offense I see no reason he can't be just as physical on defense.

Feel the same way. The kid is built for NYC!

I had the same thought. IQ really needs to learn to use his speed and his shiftiness to score in the paint. The rule change hurt him because it diminished his ability to draw fouls from all those jumping into the defender and quick stop moves he did. But he has the quickness to really develop into an offensive force but he has to get better in the paint. He will learn a lot from Brunson.

Man, this is the longest homecoming ever- will he ever actually sign the contract
smackeddog @ 7/10/2022 4:05 AM

Waiving Taj was an indicator we weren't going to pull off a sign and trade (otherwise I think we would have just kept him). Didn't really see why Mavs would be super interested in a sign and trade at this point, as they have expiring for the same amount as they'd get in a trade exemption, and they wouldn't want to take back Fournier as I think they want to reduce salary. Brunson's on vacation, so Monday is the day he can do the medicals and actually sign.

They have Timmy. And maybe we still want EF. Fans have their own opinion.
And he might be trade chip. Depends on whether he played to his contact opinon.

Yeah as long as the Knicks weren’t interested in just dumping Fournier I don’t really see where a sign and trade made sense. They probably would have happily taken a flier on Reddish, but again what’s the benefit to the Knicks ? It would be easy to say lift the protections on the 2023 Dallas pick, but I honestly think that benefits Dallas more than the Knicks. That pick is highly unlikely to be top 10 and lifting protections gives Dallas more flexibility to trade future picks. Knicks really have Dallas by the balls on this one, so Dallas probably just figures let’s not make it worse. They had multiple opportunities to lock up their second best player for 55M and didn’t , so obviously this is the fallout. Dallas will be fine because of Doncic but they have no one to blame but themselves. Brunson and DFS were legit the perfect compliments to Doncic long term.

Nalod @ 7/10/2022 11:10 AM
Points in the paint with brunson reminds me a bit of Tony Parker. Tony was longer and had a smoothness. He was an annual leader for points there.
His leadership chops at Villanova here can develop. Luka was the natural Alpha in Dallas. Here, its still to be earned. Same for RJ and Randle. Randle might have given up the mantle with his “distractions” from the year before. The “we here” season was his.

We watching…….

Plus, as much as people have/will criticise them for losing Brunson, they have already kind of sorted out his replacement- they traded for Dinwiddie, Tim Jr will be back and they signed Wood. I do think they'll be fine
