Heaven forbid our Knicks were the 13th seed with all of our "great young talent" our NYC Fan Base would attack the head coach (after every single game) and also attack our players for playing non-efficient basketball.
Funny how Knicks fans give Orlando "patience" to develop young talent but when it comes to our extremely young team with kids like R.J. Barrett?
Different story, now isn't it?
Funny would be thinking RJ is like Kobe.

You know it.
And I know it.

Orlando has mad upside. This team, in it's current form has maxed out it's potential.
And the Orlando Magic isn't mid as it currently stands and need a lot more tank seasons in order to gain more talent. Because they absolutely stink. They're the 13th seed in the East and the 5th worst team within the entire NBA. And it's not because of great potential or youth either; it's because they SUCK.
martin wrote:franco12 wrote:this has trap written all over it.I think Orlando is a young team starting to figure out how to win. And they probably will have the best player on the court in Banchero.
Looks like he may be hitting the rookie wall.
If we're serious about making the playoffs, have to win this game.
You know what... feels like Knicks have done pretty well in trap games this year? I can't recall exactly but think they have done OK
I think I read something about their 8 back-to-backs this year and they are only team not to have back-to-back loses.
Good call. MAYBE that first OKC game early on? But Thunder have been much tougher than I expected this season. They've already eclipsed last season's win total.

Immanuel Quickley = 23.
Obi Toppin = 24.
Isaiah Hartenstein = 24.
Jericho Sims = 24.

Average age = 23.1
But yet we've got fans both acting and pretending as if these kids have maxed out their potential and won't continue to develop until 26-28 years of age? It's mind boggling for me and I can't understand nor comprehend.
Heck.
Our 2 All-Star Caliber players in Jalen Brunson and Julius Randle are only 26 and 28 years of age (not 35 and 38 like Kevin Durant and LeBron James etc).
And on top of all our youth we've got a boat load of 1st round draft picks hidden in the chamber as well?
Yeah.
Right.
Okay.
"Maxed out".

Nah, they're mad young and talented. They suck because they lack experience. And a point guard.
Why don't you compare Franz's first two years to"Kobe's." If RJ is "special" Franz must be on his way to the HOF.

Not even close to what? The fourth seed? The second round of the playoffs? This team is mid as it currently stands and needs more talent. There's not much separating us from the Toronto and Bulls of the world right now.
Fulfilling potential.
However of the 9 guys in our rotation the only 3 that are NOT trending up imo are IHart, KobeRJ and Obi.
Randle: DEF trending up, shot selection, defense, attitude. Dude has leveled up (again)
Brunson: Obviously having a career year and trending up
Mitch: needs to get healthy, has shown to be a better player setting picks and boxing out
Grimes: John Starks? DPOY? Or maybe just Danny Green part II. Whatever your opinion he's surely trending up
IQ: has become an elite team defender and do all 6th man. Def trending up
McBride: Any reliable offensive game and we have (at least) a great backup/bench guy for a decade and the flashes are there
Which leaves RJ/Obi/IHart who have no really leveled up and are at best streaky.
Honestly when I look at that and consider our draft assets and our FO's ability to get quality guys well outside the lottery I am pretty happy with the directoin of the program.

not to take over the game thread on this discussion - But Randle and Brunson - can you realistically expect more production out of them next year?
Even Mitch? I mean, his upside is staying healthy.
Grimes, IQ, McBride all have potential upside. Same for RJ.
It's possible for Grimes and IQ to turn into Mini-Jalen Brunsons, but I doubt it. Better than they are and helping us win a few more games.
But sans franchise talent, this is a mid/high 40 win team, at most advancing 1 round.
Maybe I would have said the same thing about Riley's Knicks back when he took over. I mean, there was a series lack of talent on those teams, just a ton of heart and the will to win and the ability to beat an opponent, literally.
get to work from the opening tip and don't let up
Jump up and down with pom-poms all you want but disrespect how a team is playing is fanboy stuff.
Nobody here wants knicks to lose, but your arguing based on record they should.
And they should.
But the games are played for a reason. And when a team is playing well it matters.
They are well coached, have a deep bench for now, and are putting up quality wins.
Funny, Bancharo is like a younger Randle.

Agree with everything except 2 things. Mitch is not trending up as much as you describe. I will give you that his picks are better this year, but only if compared with HIS picks before. Overall they are still nothing to write home about. Everything else is the same as it was when he first came into the league, more or less. Not fouling out being the lone exception. As an example, Simms has improved his free throws and is on a better trajectory already.
Another point that I don't share is Obi. He has become our best 3 point shooter this season. That's not a small feat considering that we are a legit playoff team and that 3 point shooting is the hottest commodity in the league right now
franco12 wrote:more production? No... but that's not going to equate to better basketball. Can I expect Jalen to grow in his role as a closer? Can I expect Randle to continue to find ways to improve? Maybe its just chemistry passing out of post to Grimes, but the point is both of them have shown to be coachable players capable of growing their games.fishmike wrote:martin wrote:agree with the above bold... what makes it different is the trend of the rosters.
3rd worst team within the Eastern Conference.
13th seed.NYC fans who be screaming to blow it up, fire the head coach and trade away the entire roster for a real Superstar.
You know it.
And I know it.
You're the one bugging.
The Knicks are being led by two All-Star Caliber players in Jalen Brunson/Julius Randle alongside of extremely young talent in Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, R.J. Barrett, Obi Toppin & Mitchell Robinson (+ Deuce McBride and Jericho Sims).
The Knicks have a much higher ceiling along with a boat load of future 1st round picks too.
Orlando:

Orlando has mad upside. This team, in it's current form has maxed out it's potential. Not even close
Not even close to what? The fourth seed? The second round of the playoffs? This team is mid as it currently stands and needs more talent. There's not much separating us from the Toronto and Bulls of the world right now.
Fulfilling potential.
However of the 9 guys in our rotation the only 3 that are NOT trending up imo are IHart,
KobeRJ and Obi.Randle: DEF trending up, shot selection, defense, attitude. Dude has leveled up (again)
Brunson: Obviously having a career year and trending up
Mitch: needs to get healthy, has shown to be a better player setting picks and boxing out
Grimes: John Starks? DPOY? Or maybe just Danny Green part II. Whatever your opinion he's surely trending up
IQ: has become an elite team defender and do all 6th man. Def trending up
McBride: Any reliable offensive game and we have (at least) a great backup/bench guy for a decade and the flashes are thereWhich leaves RJ/Obi/IHart who have no really leveled up and are at best streaky.
Honestly when I look at that and consider our draft assets and our FO's ability to get quality guys well outside the lottery I am pretty happy with the directoin of the program.

Immanuel Quickley = 23.
Obi Toppin = 24.
Isaiah Hartenstein = 24.

Yeah.
Right.
Okay."Maxed out".
We still have a lot of roster flexibility and options going forward but Orlando will likely end up having 2 better building blocks after this years draft. Time will tell...
"Lowly" team beat both Boston and philly in last 10 games. Dumb ass rhetoric lazy blogging.
Based on record knicks should win. Based on Orlando's play of late, its not a given.
Why keep harping on this? Expectations! We lose some of you will lose you shit and recommend trades on knee jerk reactions.
Banchero, Fultz, Issac, the Wagners, bol bol, and Anthony are decent and have shown they can play with anyone recently.
Any news if RJ is back on the clock or they leave him home?

Thibs himself has said about a) McBride hitting shots in practice b) Simms practicing free throws c) Obi working on his threes. I don't thinks it's cherry picked exactly because that's what the coaching team wants him to do. So it's the stat to look at imho. Which perfectly correlates with his current role on the team. So you can look at his metrics, you can count his minutes and touches. His strengths are painfully unmatched by his role on the team. Unlike last year, especially at the end when Randle was hurt. This year Obi's minutes have taken a dive. So to sum it up he has done better at what was asked of him by the coaches and he is filling his assigned role better this year because of it. Of course the other parts of his game suffer because of less minutes and because of the shift of focus towards becoming a 3point shooter almost exclusively. Still, why would you downplay what he was able to achieve this year from 3 land? It's clear progress. As a matter of fact why don't we look at all the rest of the players an see who has had a similar improvement from the 3 ? Cherry picking? It's not some minor stat that I am blowing out of proportion. He went from 30% to above 37%. That's great.

Obi last year
9ppg on 6.6 FGA
Obi this year
6.7ppg on 5.8 FGA
Nothing about that is better. He's a worse offensive player (statistically).
Ross with 25 in Q4
I can't lie man.
I love the kid.
And I'll be heartbroken as a Knicks fan if he's traded.
I'll never forget the night he cried tears of joy on draft day. He cried tears of joy because he was just drafted by his favorite childhood team (as an NYC kid from Brooklyn).
Not only that but I couldn't give two flying pigs about his "EFG%". Because I love his athleticism, I'm falling in love with his 3PT shooting and I believe in his overall potential/talent moving forward.
More importantly?
I love his character and personality.
This kid is as mentally strong as I've ever seen.
He's been stuck behind a 2x All-Star in Julius Randle while only averaging a career 14.5 minutes per game and you know what? He's never pulled a Cam Reddish and has never once complained about it. Cam Reddish has already bitched about his lack of playing time and to two different Coaching staffs too (ATL and now NY) and it's because he loves being an NY Knick. He's proud of his role off the bench and he's always smiling from the sidelines and rooting for his teammates. I love this kids heart and then once he enters the game? He's like a big kid again. He's excited to just be out there. Sometimes too excited.
Na. I'm trading away and quitting on an Obi Toppin type talent for the NY life of me because I see greatness in this kid.
In closing?
We trade away Obi Toppin and something happens to Julius Randle?

Orlando = 22-32 (13-13 @ home). We've recently proved we can compete with the NBA's elite teams while giving them all they can handle but tonight we've gotta prove we can beat the teams we're expected to beat.
As long as we don't play down the the level of our opponent (Magic) we should destroy these guys by 25-30+ points tonight (beat them by 13 back in October).
Big time game for us because if we win and Brooklyn loses vs. Phoenix? We'll only be 3.0 games back of the Nets (and we'll get to play them on the 13th in 6 days too).
All I'm saying is this.
I want the same criticism for Orlando as if they were the Knicks.
Because through the eyes of our social media fan base?
Knicks 10 games below .500?
Knicks as the Eastern Conference 13th seed?
Knicks as the 5th worst team within the entire NBA?
And this late into the season too?
Nah. No way.
Our Coaching Staff, every single player on our roster and our entire Front Office would be getting KILLED AND DESTROY with NY pitchforks right now.
I'm sick and tired of our younger prospects having pressure to perform (from our NYC) fan base but yet teams such as Orlando's prospects are given a "free pass"?
Nope.
It doesn't work like that for me.
And it's not my fault, because I've learned this behavior from the best.
