Na.

R.J. Barrett's back to playing and starting tonight.

I will say this.

I might've made Evan Fournier as my public enemy #1 last year (because I couldn't stand him starting due to his Defense) but if he's coming off the bench? I'll root hard for him as a piece to our rotation.

@ the end of the day he broke the Single Season Knicks Franchise Record for most 3's made (passing John Starks) last year.

Off the bench he's growing on me; something I never thought I'd say.

there is one thing we can say about RJ - he has been, mostly, available, if sometimes highly inefficient.

Thank you.

Best ability is availability and one thing about R.J. Barrett? He's always ready to play and compete. Zion is more dominant, but I have a feeling R.J. Barrett is going to have a much more successful career.

Man oh man do I wanna see R.J. Barrett @ only 22 years old DESTROY all of these "elite prospects" of Orlando.

Yooooo ladies and gentlemen.

An NYK win tonight?

And we're the new 6th seed and in the REAL PLAYOFFS (seeding) due to our H2H tiebreaker over Miami.

LETS GO NY GO NY GO!

Nalod wrote:have a little respect for Orlando. They are 6-4 their last 10 and have been doing well.
Records are not always predictors to the outcome.
They are getting healthy and on paper team is starting to emerge.
Its along season and they are not the same as the team we played in October. Nor are we for that matter.
Its the NBA, parity exists.
Sorry but I actually live down here in Florida these days (Tampa Bay) and there's nothing for me to respect (as an NBA fan) about an Orlando team that's 10 games below .500 and the 3rd worst team within the entire Eastern Conference (only better than DET/CHA tank teams).

Let's be real here Nalod.

Heaven forbid our Knicks were the 13th seed with all of our "great young talent" our NYC Fan Base would attack the head coach (after every single game) and also attack our players for playing non-efficient basketball.

Funny how Knicks fans give Orlando "patience" to develop young talent but when it comes to our extremely young team with kids like R.J. Barrett?

Different story, now isn't it?

Fans have been super patient with RJ. 4 years patient. Just hoping for some better basketball.
Funny would be thinking RJ is like Kobe.
10 games below .500.
3rd worst team within the Eastern Conference.
13th seed.

NYC fans who be screaming to blow it up, fire the head coach and trade away the entire roster for a real Superstar.

You know it.

And I know it.

You buggin'. I would take Banchero or Wagner 10/10 over RJ. The Magic aren't outright tanking and are giving teams fits. I would trade their ceiling for the Knicks ceiling right now. Not only is that team getting valuable experience for it's youth, but their in line to add more cheap young talent in the draft. Or maybe they trade their assets for a vet and make the next step.

You're the one bugging.

The Knicks are being led by two All-Star Caliber players in Jalen Brunson/Julius Randle alongside of extremely young talent in Immanuel Quickley, Quentin Grimes, R.J. Barrett, Obi Toppin & Mitchell Robinson (+ Deuce McBride and Jericho Sims).

The Knicks have a much higher ceiling along with a boat load of future 1st round picks too.

Orlando:
Offensive Rating = 25th.
Defensive Rating = 21st.
Net Rating = 26th.
Turnover Percentage = 26th.

Please stop overrating this Orlando teams "future".

Orlando has mad upside. This team, in it's current form has maxed out it's potential.

Not even close

Not even close to what? The fourth seed? The second round of the playoffs? This team is mid as it currently stands and needs more talent. There's not much separating us from the Toronto and Bulls of the world right now.

Fulfilling potential.

agree with the above bold... what makes it different is the trend of the rosters. The Bulls and Raptors dont have a ton of rotation players trending upwards. Very few in fact. They are very much what they are.

However of the 9 guys in our rotation the only 3 that are NOT trending up imo are IHart, KobeRJ and Obi.

Randle: DEF trending up, shot selection, defense, attitude. Dude has leveled up (again)
Brunson: Obviously having a career year and trending up
Mitch: needs to get healthy, has shown to be a better player setting picks and boxing out
Grimes: John Starks? DPOY? Or maybe just Danny Green part II. Whatever your opinion he's surely trending up
IQ: has become an elite team defender and do all 6th man. Def trending up
McBride: Any reliable offensive game and we have (at least) a great backup/bench guy for a decade and the flashes are there

Which leaves RJ/Obi/IHart who have no really leveled up and are at best streaky.

Honestly when I look at that and consider our draft assets and our FO's ability to get quality guys well outside the lottery I am pretty happy with the directoin of the program.

Agree with everything except 2 things. Mitch is not trending up as much as you describe. I will give you that his picks are better this year, but only if compared with HIS picks before. Overall they are still nothing to write home about. Everything else is the same as it was when he first came into the league, more or less. Not fouling out being the lone exception. As an example, Simms has improved his free throws and is on a better trajectory already.
Another point that I don't share is Obi. He has become our best 3 point shooter this season. That's not a small feat considering that we are a legit playoff team and that 3 point shooting is the hottest commodity in the league right now
That feels like a cherry picked stat. His EFG%, ORtg, PPG, PPG/per 36, like ALL his offensive and defensive metrics are down from last year and his +/- is terrible. He has NOT played well this year at all. He's the most athletic guy on the team and he's afraid to attack the rim. He's averaging less than 2FT attempts per 36 minutes. He literally never gets to the line and attacks the defense. He has painfully regressed there

Thibs himself has said about a) McBride hitting shots in practice b) Simms practicing free throws c) Obi working on his threes. I don't thinks it's cherry picked exactly because that's what the coaching team wants him to do. So it's the stat to look at imho. Which perfectly correlates with his current role on the team. So you can look at his metrics, you can count his minutes and touches. His strengths are painfully unmatched by his role on the team. Unlike last year, especially at the end when Randle was hurt. This year Obi's minutes have taken a dive. So to sum it up he has done better at what was asked of him by the coaches and he is filling his assigned role better this year because of it. Of course the other parts of his game suffer because of less minutes and because of the shift of focus towards becoming a 3point shooter almost exclusively. Still, why would you downplay what he was able to achieve this year from 3 land? It's clear progress. As a matter of fact why don't we look at all the rest of the players an see who has had a similar improvement from the 3 ? Cherry picking? It's not some minor stat that I am blowing out of proportion. He went from 30% to above 37%. That's great.

because his EFG% is lower. So what if he's hitting more 3s when he's missing all other shots he used to make, or simply not taking them any more

Obi last year
9ppg on 6.6 FGA
Obi this year
6.7ppg on 5.8 FGA

Nothing about that is better. He's a worse offensive player (statistically).

If you leave out the fact that proportionally his playing time has decreased just the same then it's just misleading

Fell down by 11.
Now down 5.

R.J. Barrett struggling again from the field 0/4 but one thing I appreciate and love about this Knicks team? We might start off slow but we'll never quit and we ALWAYS fight ourselves back into games.

Philc1 @ 2/7/2023 7:35 PM
Lucky to only be down by 4

Dammit Hart?
NYKMentality @ 2/7/2023 7:40 PM
There ya go R.J!

Kid really needed that shot to fall 1/5 now.

R.J + Deuce/IQ/Obi/Hart on the floor this should be exciting.

MaTT4281 @ 2/7/2023 7:44 PM
Couldn't believe that stat Kenny just mentioned...Obi's only been to the line for 25 (now 26) FT attempts...

Love you Obi, but we really need to you play bigger.
