We need Briggs to quickly initiate a thread guaranteeing Mavericks will pick 1-4.

The Mavericks are trying to win but Kyrie is a cancer
And the Mavs need to salvage something from this season so why not try to get a first rounder ? So I applaud the statistics used to argue that odds are in the Knicks favor for a first rounder but things never work right for the Knicks. I don't know why the Knicks didn't trade for Hart using the least favorable for their two first rounders at the time or whatever. Kyrie doesn't help his teams out of spite so maybe he will screw Dallas out of the 9th or 10th pick and play his best ball down the stretch to get a max deal.

I think it is a bit unfair and too soon to put it on Kyrie. The team traded away their defense for an offensive "star".
Luka also has some personal stuff going on, rumor has it with his mom.
I just hope we get that pick. As you said it was essentially STUPID to trade away our pick, instead of the lesser of the two (making sure we could make a pick in a deep draft since by all accounts next year is crappy.)
I think Dallas makes the play-in. Hopefully we get that pick. Chances are good but it can get worse.

Does it still count as "essentially stupid" if that was the only way to get the deal done?

They should have put the lesser of the two picks if that was a possibility. It might not have been because Portland likely wanted certainty that it would get a pick this year. At the time, the Dallas pick was the most favorable, so the Knicks kept that one. Dallas just lost again by the way.

I’ve been sounding alarms for over a week and everyone has been acting like I’m over-reacting.
We could always slip into the playin by losing unintentionally and lose the playin games and end up with our own lotto pick. That’s more likely than getting Dallas’s pick at this point, unless they shut luka down and kyrie balls out
If we don't have a pick we will likely bring Rokas over. Then we will have the Dallas pick in 2024.

I would beg to differ because there is always the possibility the Dallas pick doesn't get conveyed for years.
Point being, there are 2 possibclueless. I see:
1 The Knicks pick was the only acceptable pick to Portland
2 The Knicks didn't care what pick they gave up
Either way, saying it was essentially stupid is clueless.

Wemby going to spurs or rockets
The other teams around the Mavericks can crash too, a race to the bottom. Still have hope

3 The Blazers didn't really care what pick they receive as long as it was first.
The Knicks and Mavs pretty much had the same record at the deadline. If the Blazers really cared that much about which pick they'd get, they likely would've angled in on the Dallas pick, which has less protections than the Knicks first-rounder.

In which case, if the Knicks pick was so obviously more valuable, Leon Rose said, "Yeah, they don't care. Let's give them our pick since it is more valuable, you know, just to be nice. Brock, you good with that? You sure we are not leaving value, I mean it is your job to...no? Really doesn't matter? Cool. Scott? On board? Sweet. I'll just ring them up and ask if they want anything else because all the talent acquisition guys that built this roster with all these players that need time that we are hindering, are ok with just leaving value on the table."
Mark Cuban so far has struck out when looking for a superstar to pair with Luka, Poorzingis then now Kyrie. What is the possibility Luka gets tired of Cuban and ask to be traded to his favorite childhood team this summer. Force a reunion with Brunson. I would give RJ, Obi, one of the harts and 3-4 1st rounders to make it happen!

No way does that package get a player that is arguably the most gifted offensive player in the league right now. With that said, Cuban has done a terrible job managing the pieces around Luka. The one guy who did seem to fit next to Luka, in terms of winning, was Brunson, and he let him walk for nothing. Luka also has to take some criticism because he has struggled to fit next to Kyrie and Porzingis. Its still early with Kyrie, but Luka may have to take some blame as the Mavs brought in 2 players that have struggled to win consistently next to Luka. Again its still early with Kyrie.
Alpha1971 wrote:The other teams around the Mavericks can crash too, a race to the bottom. Still have hope
Mavs have 5 game road trip coming up which is worrisome for us unless they turn things on the road

Pass on Kyrie. Let him go have his bipolar meltdowns in LA with Lebron next year after he accepts less money
