I would give RJ, Obi, one of the harts and 3-4 1st rounders to make it happen!

Pass on Kyrie. Let him go have his bipolar meltdowns in LA with Lebron next year after he accepts less money

He's talking about Luka

One would have to read what other people write before responding to recognize that.

kinda think Randle would have to be part of a trade for Luka.

So what happens if we dont get their pick this year?

It has the protection for this year, 2024 and 2025, and if it does not convey within those three years, the Knicks receive a second-round pick.

Interesting. Honestly, not the end of the world if we don't get that pick this year. Just hope their spiral isn't long term lol

Doesn’t the pick convey to a #2 after this year?

No - a couple more years of protection before converting to 2’s.

Wow, thanks -- don't know why I thought this was the last year for it to be a #1 other than just so many details! So it would seem very promising we will eventually get a #1 from Dallas, Washington, and Detroit unless we use them in another trade (as I'm sure at least one or two of them will be).

franco12 @ 3/27/2023 7:07 PM
if it does not convey in 2025 as a first rounder, it becomes their 2nd rounder that year.

I have to think it will have especial value to Dallas when we trade it back to them for Luca.

GustavBahler @ 3/27/2023 7:16 PM
From the Athletic:

There is also the hilarious possibility of a tiebreaker knocking the Mavs out of the Play-In but a lost coin flip with the same team also handing a lottery pick to New York. For instance, if the Mavs tied with Oklahoma City for 10th in the West, the Thunder would win the tiebreak. However, provided the Thunder lost in the Play-In round, there would also be a coin flip between Dallas and Oklahoma City for which team had the higher pick in the draft. Suppose that tie was for the 10th-worst record overall. The Thunder could conceivably win that coin toss, push Dallas down to 11th on the draft board and off goes the pick to New York.

There is another dimension to having the pick not convey this year that is a negative for Dallas.
Dallas cannot trade a 2024 or 2025 or a 2026 1st round pick to improve the team because they are locked in with the pick they owe the Knicks and the rule that says you cannot trade a 1st rounder two years in a row.

Dallas traded their 2029 1st rd pick to the Nets, so they cannot trade their 2028 or 2030 1st rd picks in any scenario.

This means Dallas only has their 2017 1st round pick to work with... and Luka is eying that exit...
They have no choice but to try to make more moves and that Knicks pick not conveying this year would be a big thorn in their side to accomplish what they need to keep Doncic.

Knickoftime @ 3/28/2023 5:10 PM
Uh oh... the NBA's reverse tank is now in full effect.

They rescinded Doncic's tech.

SGA has been ruled out of the Thunder's game vs the Hornets.

Durant is returning in the suns game against the Wolves.

Can't keep track of the NBA's Machiavellian machinations.

Just because I see people aren't clear about these rules.

The rule isn't you can't trade 2 1st round picks in a row. You in fact can.

The rule is you have to have at least one future first in every other FUTURE draft. How's that different?

For one, if you acquire an unprotected first, it counts. It doesn't have to be YOUR original 1st.

Secondly you can trade your first round pick EVERY year on a per year basis. Meaning a team without a first rounder this year cannot trade their 2024 pick ..... until the conclusion of the 2023 draft. The second it's over 2023 is no longer a future draft and that team can then trade their 2024 pick, so long as they have a 2025 pick.

So you can in fact trade your first rounder every year, just so long as its after the draft.

This doesn't pertain to Dallas much. They ARE currently locked into not trading their 2025, 24 25, and 26 picks because of the Knicks protection through 2025. But that could change three ways.

1. The pick conveys this year.
2. Dallas and NY agree to remove the protections this year (lets say its 10, Dallas could give it to the Knicks anyway and then start wheeling and dealing their 2024 through 2027 picks right after the draft.
3. Dallas could acquire an unprotected 2025 pick, putting their 2024 and 2026 pick on the table after the draft even if the Knicks pick doesn't convey this year.

You are right about #2 🙂💪

Can the Knicks trade Dallas a future pick or the rights to Rokas for them to remove their protections on the pick ? Maybe future second rounders or Rokas for example ?
Alpha1971 @ 3/29/2023 3:53 AM
Mavericks can convey the pick to us if they can win a few more games if the Bulls can get cold and lock down the 10 the spot also teams like Clippers, Lakers, Hawks, and Pelicans can suddenly fall into tenth. I don't think Dallas is tanking they just don't have a team around Luka and Kyrie. Reggie Bullock is starting at PF. But I think Luka is a gamer and wants to win and the role players all want to raise their value so they will be competing. But if the Dallas pick doesn't convey then we have more pics to trade going forward with the Dallas, Detroit, and Another one conveying later. If it doesn't convey we bring over Rokas and give him guaranteed money on a rookie contract. .

Maybe if they need to have freedom to trade future picks. Plus they may want the recoupment of future pics and a talented player in Rokas. Don't know I m just wondering if that allowed by the regulations.
