Knicks · Our season is over. What is your RX for the team in the offseason? (page 10)

Isaac has the same situation as Obi has. Can he play the SF? Can playing the 3 lessen the strain on his body not being counted on to guard stonger PFs? I hope he can catch a break ang get several consecutive healthy seasons under his belt.

He is 6-11. Not sure he has the foot speed especially after all his injuries to guard on the parameter.k

I don't want any player with durability issues unless it's Embiid.

Embiid is a bigger flopper than LeFlop, you would hate him lol

Beal would be a good fit at the two:

Then you look at the numbers on his contract. Then I hit delete. Paying 57mil for a 34 year old who is not a top 5 player is kind of nauseating.
I know Miami and their legion of undrafted is all the rage (the anti starphuch!) but Beal's deal is crazy to digest given the process of Leon were we have mostly good contracts.
EF's is not great but not a franchise killer either.

I also question Beal's fit with Brunson. Brunson has proven he can play off ball. But I remember there being a bit of chafing with Beal and Wall in the same backcourt. Also, Beal's three point shooting has been erratic the past few years. Is that due to his increased offensive load
or the lingering effects of his shoulder injury from injuries? He did bounce back, kind of, this season.

Beal is such a tough call and often a very tough player to watch due to sloppiness/carelessness with the rock.

He is a legit playoff player / scorer —- type of guy who could walk into Miami/Boston/Philly and drop 35.

On the flip side he is often injured, he’s a huge contract and he can just play poorly/sloppy for no reason.

I don’t see any fit issues with Brunson primarily because Brunson doesn’t have an ego and he’s just a less confrontational player vs say Wall. I’d like Beal where Randle goes and we have Brunson/Beal/RJ scoring base but don’t trust Randle to play nice as clear 3rd option behind Brunson/Beal.

The Sixers are going to ask for a package that will make what we offered Ainge for Mitchell look like nothing.

I'm hopeful one of these years the Mavs Pistons and Wizards will all be decent enough that those picks will convert. If we can get to the deadline with those teams playing well, the Knicks could be in pole position for a nice trade.

Im willing to let go of RJ if the return includes Ingram, OG, Bridges.

Can the FO find another Bronson type of move? Would you take a gamble on Jonathan Isaac if the price is low?

Isaac is in the same spot as Ben Simmons. You'd assume his current team would be happy to give him away just to clear that contract off their books. I just don't see the Knicks being in a position where it makes sense for them to take such a risky move. The last thing the Knicks need is a potentially untradeable big contract clogging up their cap.

Issac’s contract is 17mm and partially guaranteed if still on roster by Jan 1st. Low risk. Not sure what he wants but playing behind Bancharo won’t help him start at age 26. Jules is all nBA allstar and would be blocking his minutes….But:

He is 6-11. Maybe time to learn to play the 5 more?
Can back up both the 4 and 5?
And is talented as fuck.
But…..over 6 NBA seasons he has played in only 147 games. Missed two entire seasons, played only 11 games this past one.
This is the kind of guy that either goes the way of Olidipo or reconstitutes and earns a new big contract after some durability. He could find a path back to a career on a contending team playing 15-20 minutes.
I haver read he is a big Jesus guy and for all we know he walks away from the pain and non contributory issues that come with being a pro athlete whose body won’t let him play, but……he can preach and find great purpose in religion.
That or signs with the Devil in Miami and sells his soul.

That's a lot cheaper than I thought. Still, I'm thinking paying Josh Hart 18 million is a.safer bet. The other option would be trading Fournier and maybe a protected pick- still there's an even money proposition that the pick would turn into a better player.

How far does a DeAndre Ayton/Julius Randle centric package get us in a Joel Embiid trade? I think the two talents are compelling enough to get us pretty close without completely gutting the team. Grimes, McBride and a few picks might be all it takes to get both he and Tobias Harris.

I think Ayton, by himself, would be cheap. This new CBA will compell teams like PHO to offload salary, especially salary attached to superfluous, disgruntled talent like Ayton. Ayton is far more talented than Mitchell Robinson but is pigeonholed into a role that Robinson can play just as well at half the cost. Robinson also has a front-loaded contract which ought to make him more valuable to them, moving forward, as their payroll balloons and their tax payments become more punitive. I think Robinson, Jericho Sims and Doug McDermott (who probably could be swapped for Evan Fournier) should get the deal done. It'd save PHO +$8million and also help them add two additional rotation players on cost-control.

I don't think Nick Nurse signed on to trade the MVP. I'm guessing Nurse painted a pretty compelling picture of life after Harden.

Ayton needs to be our top target in the offseason. It seems like the suns will be listening to offers and Randle and Mitch is a very reasonable package to offer

Mavs have Luka;they should be better. The Pistons should have learned a valuable lesson that tanking ain't worth it and start trying to win, there pick should convey in the next three sessions. The Wizard's always seem to try at the begining of the season and then they fall flat. Wizards pick also should be in the running to convey. Of the three Detroit's may be the least likely to convey unless Dallas explodes and they don't keep Kyrie, in that case, that pick is never conveying as they trade Luka. Id trade all three of those picks for OG and RJ.

Alpha1971 @ 5/30/2023 8:37 AM
Upon reflection, I'd trade RJ and three protected picks for OG. Then sign Watanabe to the BA exception as his OGs back up. Use the MLE for Divenzo. Draft a back up power forward. Trade IQ, Hartenstein, and two first rounders for KP. KP, Randal, OG, Grimes, Brunson. Bench Mitch, Obi, Hart, Divenzo, Deuce. This team to brittle ???

Those three picks are still valuable. They get to tell their fanbase they got 3 first rounders over the years. That to me is what Toronto should get for OG along with RJ. Future draft capital and RJ is a good package if they want more they can get it from someone else. OG is not an all star. They shouldn't get three unprotected firsts.

KP isn't realistic until his contract situation gets cleared up. You're looking at $36M next season if he doesn't opt out. And if he does re-sign? It means the Wiz aren't doing a tear down and are likely unwilling to trade KP anytime soon.

Yeah, but KP talk is all the rage right now. What about Vucevic or a trade for Valincunas ? Or do we draft a jump shooting big ?

Not sure if this was brought up yet but Isaac is super religious and conservative. Some may not think it SHOULDN’T matter…and I agree…but I’m sure these things get discussed within sports organizations.

You quoted me and it was in there. It does factor in. The Devoss family who owns the Magic are also but have some very intense Republican views. Remember Secretary of Education under trump: Betsy Devos? They really have rallied and treated Issac very well.

You bring up a good point. Charlie Ward:

In 2001, while playing for the Knicks, it was discovered that Ward had made comments about Jews during a Bible-study session, comments that were eventually leaked to the press. Among the comments made: "Jews are stubborn...tell me, why did they persecute Jesus unless He knew something they didn't want to accept...They had His blood on their hands.

There was outrage directed at Ward from Jewish groups, the public, as well as the Knicks organization itself. Ward defended himself by saying "I didn't mean to offend any one group because that's not what I'm about. I have friends that are Jewish. Actually, my friend is a Jewish guy, and his name is Jesus Christ." He also said the quotes were taken out of context, as he stated that "Jews are stubborn" in speaking to what he perceived to be their disinclination to convert to Christianity.[9]

Ward eventually apologized for those statements, with his apology being accepted by the Anti-Defamation League.
