Knicks · Remaining plausible scenarios for the offseason (page 5)

WTF happened to EF? He’s now entering locker room cancer levels. First I said we just bring him back and wait for the right trade opportunity. Now he’s telling all his dirty laundry to the French networks and spilling all the thibs dirt.

We are entering another Obi trade scenario. Teams are like, just wait and be patient. Knicks will start throwing away assets soon. EF is still a top 3 pt shooter in this league No? And we are no longer in the 90s defensive era. These young guys don’t play defense like they used to. So you would think EF fits in perfect with todays nba culture. 🤷‍♂️🤷

Just out score your opponent. Save your energy on defense so you can be more efficient on offense.

Sounds like the Knicks missed their shot at moving him. That said, no need to cut him. Hold him as salary in a possible trade or let him expire.

Thibs reputation is taking more hits with this. Kemba Walker situation was mishandled poorly, Taj Gibson left for DC a Brooklyn whom is native NYer, now Rose after playing for Thibs for so many years and Toppin whom called out his bad coaching all of whom were good team players as far as we know or heard of. Theo Pinson had mentioned his favoritism for Randle and lack of accountability.

Fournier should be seeking a new $100mil extension so he can continue to enjoy the city and sit on the bench, lol

This is 100% bullshit. No offense. Who that Thibs has not played has showed out?

-Kemba played like 8 games for Dallas.

-Gibson left because they got more talent and he was let go.

-Rose is still playing a mentor role in Memphis, but he is better than what they got at the backup guard spots (maybe), but he was squeezed out here because the players ahead of him were better (For that matter Rose still hasn't said anything.

-Fournier had to pussy out and bring another man's name into his drama to somehow try and validate he is right. Why do you think Rose hasn't said anything yet? He is staying the fuck out of it).

-For all the belly aching, Toppin is still not considered the sure fire starter in Indy and his competition is a ROOKIE and Indy was rumoured to have interest in Siakim-another PF. And Theo Pinson made a joke about Randle being the only one who doesn't have to play defense. Hardly calling anyone out (although with all those minutes he plays, IDK how he has the time).

Give me one player that Thibs has jettisioned that has shown the juice was worth the squeeze after they got a better "opportunity" on another team. Just one. I'll wait.

I take it back. I don't care if you are offended. I'm sure you are the one soul who said, 'WTF! Fournier needs to play he can win us this series". If you think that Thibs is the only coach in the NBA that plays favorites I have a bridge in Brooklyn to sell you.

I agree with you on the merits. Yet, I will say I didn't read the article in French so maybe the reporting was more sensational then actually how it deserves to be interpreted. Maybe, a proverbial mountain has been made out of a prairie dog shelter

I have to tell you, I both understand the complaints that are made about Thibs and I also have no clue why they keep coming back.

Thibs is the face or maybe the target of a lot of things, but I think the coaching staff - and maybe it flows further up the chain - has been doing a really really good job with players and team construction.

There will always be those that complain about what is disappointing while ignoring all the positives.

My complaint is how so many expected anything different

Thibs was and will always be a defensive coach. Thibs was and will always be loyal to winning. He has always shown that no matter the name, contract or position drafted, he will always play the ones that play defense and give him the best probability of winning. Watching bench EF, Rose and Kemba shows that he will not play guys who are not at a level he wants no matter how he feels about them. (Many who complain about Thibs claim he loves his vets over youngins). Thibs choosing others over his long standing favorites showa his loyalty is to winning. (Rose/Gibson) Thibs not playing Obi as much yet relying on Grimes and IQ discredits claims he is unfair to deserving youngsters. Maybe he is just unfair to one dimensional players that hurt the tram on other ends?

I wanted Thibs here for what I knew he was. He has been exactly that. Anyone who has been surprised was not watching. Nor remembers the many terrible coaches we had prior.

Unless he mentioned his +/- in explaining his position versus the team's position, he lacked balance in his commentary. The fact that they gave him another 10 games to figure it out last season was a kindness. That he compares himself to Rose is laughable.

I think Thibs should have gone with a lineup of Fournier, Kemba, Obi, Cam, and Rose. That team would have gone…far.

He’s so stubborn.

Taj at the 5 so that you can use Rose off the bench as a spark

Joe and Martin nailed it. Team's done nothing but get better. Brunson, Mitch and Randle all have taken huge steps under Thibs. The kids are developing great. Team has an identity, style of play and are looking better for next year and have a great future.

Look at the guys who were cranky or replaced. Cam (Josh Hart), Fournier (Grimes), Rose (McBride)... all the right basketball moves. Thibs has literally answered every critique from not running a modern offense to overplaying guys. Knicks had a top offense. Randle and Brunson were 19th and 22nd in the NBA in minutes per game.

I think next year is Thib's biggest. Can he get the kids and the team over the hump and do we level up? Or we are basically a 2nd round deep hustle team (which isnt bad considering the starting place)

This statement is weird for me. Thibs definitely is known for his defense, right? Everyone talks about it.

Thibs has head coached 3 different teams. Each team has had at least one season where the offense was in the top 5 for Offensive Efficiency for the season.

I don't think those things happen as a fluke and that's a really good sample size across different teams. Thibs has definitely maximized the offense for each team he has been a part of in some sort of way such that they are one of the very best in the league.

How could one describe that differently?

Thing about Thibs and whether players like him or not.

If he has 10-12 players who play really hard for him every night — do you really care that the 1 guy he benches has issues with him? Seems to me that Thibs has the support of players that primarily matter to winning/ losing.

When he was with Boston, those guys loved him. Same in Chicago and NY. I have no idea about Minny but Jimmy loved him, right?

So where are all the guys who don't? They on min contracts

Exactly. There is nothing wrong with being a demanding coach if you get results and Thibs gets results. I heard Towns hated Thibs, but he also didn't like Butler, and has a rep as a semi-lazy player.

Per Stefan Bondy of the New York Daily News:

The issues with Thibodeau in Minnesota were more concerning, but they’re also not all his fault. Word is Thibodeau was fine with Andrew Wiggins but the problem was Karl-Anthony Towns, who is gaining a reputation of being a selfish player less concerned with winning. It’s not surprising that his personality didn’t mesh with the demanding Thibodeau.

KAT recently made some point about his team being better then GS because they played them hard without years being together. Man he seemed delusional. Hard pass

I have to feel all the KAT talk comes from clickbait. If nothing else a Thibs/KAT reunion is doomed.

I know some folks don't like the Leon Rose and front office not talking to the media. But at least we know that all the rumors are just click bait by outlets trying to get eyeballs. When we hear the deal is done is when I believe anything.
