Thats the fall back for hate. Bring up a bad playoff as if thats all that matters.
Its part of it, but not the end all.
The thing about IQ was not about his playoff, its his limitations and has he evolved enough to over come some things.
Knicks are in this for "NOW". IQ wants to get paid and will for potential. He was a luxury we cannot afford.

Thankfully I did not have to say it this time. People will become enamoured with his regular season stats. Like Randle the regular season is not his problem. He was just darn near 6thman of the year. It's when team specifically gameplan to take him out of the game. What do you do then? Until he shows he can handle that this is a better trade than the general fanbase will think.

While his production in the playoffs have been pretty trash. It's way to early in his career for it to be any type of stigma.

I never said he will have playoff problems for the rest his career. Only time will tell that. The problem is Quick wants big boy money now. So we have to judge him on the information we have now.I pay extra attention to players who have big dropoff in productions vs good defensive teams and in the playoffs. A slight dropoff is fine but he went from 6th man of the year to unplayable the second team pressured him. Can't be paying 25+ mil for someone unplayable in the playoffs no matter if he is homegrown or not.

After this season the real penalties for being at or over the 2nd apron will be fully active. So locking youself into a team that can't get over the hump is severely damaging. All those steal contracts we signed will be ending soon and if we want to re-sign them they will no longer be steals. You have to take all these things into account.

Not that I disagree. Would of just saw how he played this coming playoffs. Then his pay scale would be determined around the league. If he would of been terrible again than teams probably don't offer $25+mil. Leaving a scenario were the Knicks would feel comfortable matching. Or he balls out, since the Knicks could offer the most money. Work out a S&T with the interested team so IQ could get all his money and Knicks get a usable piece or pieces back to move forward with.

With the Raptors he will getting way more attention going forward. Will be his opportunity to develop the counters with the experience of seeing it more often and adapt elevating his game. Or not.

Amazing what happens when you stop having 3 poor defenders playing at the same time. It should not have taken this long to figure out how poor of a fit Randle, RJ and Brunson was. Offensively it was easy to tell but it should have also been obvious on defense.

I will say I really hope OG is still not clamoring for a bigger role on offense b/c he has no offensive game. Grimes has more potential on that end.

Even the worst critic of the trade would still want to extend OG... that's not a pivot, the trade would be catastrophic if we didn't extend OG.

The question is what will the figure be?

it's always tough losing young homegrown players, i've gone back and forth with this trade.

OG's offensive game is very limited, he's been injury prone and he will command over $30m+.

that being said it's hard to argue with the results, RJ for OG would have been an amazing trade, but wouldn't have solved the logjam and we couldn't have paid both OG and IQ. So we had to make a 2 for 1 trade and IQ was the necessary sacrifice. And the handwriting was on the wall when we signed DDV.

So when you look at it as RJ and IQ for OG and DDV then it makes more sense, especially considering contracts.

OG is a great defender as advertised, and a great finisher at the rim. Our defense has been incredible since the trade, and I think one thing I didn't think of was not just OG's defense, but the fact that now we have Grimes, Hart and DDV all moving down a peg and guarding the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th best players. That combined with Miles playing now has had such a huge impact on our defense. So hard to argue with it, it's looking better by the day.

Trades take years to figure out and even our short sample cannot tell you the outcome.

Neither did coach Cal I suppose, or anyone that guided him on the path to multi generational wealth. The kid worked his ass off to get to where he is.

Nobody told him to have fun because he looked like he was having it anyway. Im not mad at him. The reporting was crap. Maybe his coaches wanted him to have less fun and that helped him achieve. Shit works both ways.

IQ and RJ are good young men who worked hard to earn their positions.

Im not at all worried about OG resigning or standing in the corner. Why? Because he can hit from there. Ger him more involved? That should come. they have not had time to practice much. Winning is fun for them also. OG will have choices if he wants to see other teams.
that Leons son is his agent matters. We might have to over pay a bit for him but so will others. Then its market value and we are in fact not "Over paying" are we?

OG is going to be big guarding guys like Tatum & Giannis.
