No big deal. We are playing great. But a guy that averages 15pts for 37MM all good. Very excited how we are playing but let’s bleed the breaks. We love our Knicks, but this isn’t a one sided win.

I think the only call that this was one sided was by the thread starter - that we got “fleeced.”
It was an adult trade!

I know what I saw with RJ in NY and it was ultra meh - boring, inefficient basketball.
If he was so great we wouldn’t have needed to throw IQ in deal and league wouldn’t describe his deal as toxic.
Don’t have any I’ll will towards him but I never saw any development in his game —- Warriors are also a mess right now with Wiggins trying to get himself to Canada (Pascal?).

Remember RJ was an awkward fit with Randle and Brunson? Like OG is a great fit with us, RJ might be on a faster pace team. If you never saw development, your not looking hard enough. His 3pt shooting aside, he has gotten much better with his right hand, using the glass, finishing and passing out. IQ? Wants starter money behind Brunson. He earned it.j That was not going to happen. Could we have done better? Fans prerogative to keep at it. We a week in to this. OG is a great fit for what Knicks are wanting to do.

What are the Knicks wanting to do? Win a chip with the Big Three of Randle-Brunson-Anunoby?

Toronto is benefiting and it’s great for them. The only reason they do this trade is due to OGs contract status though. Otherwise they don’t move him. This time last year they could have made the same trade and they easily pass.

On one end of the court, OG is considered one of the top 5-10 guys in the league and I don't think that is a stretch. He is versatile enough to play 1-5. And on the other end of the court, he is incredibly solid although nothing special.
If you traded for a guy who was top 5-10 in the league in offense and solid as a defender, that would cost you several firsts, couple of swaps, and a young player or 2.
OG specializes in defense and defense is half the game and yet it is undervalued.
And to make it more stark: his play disrupts one of the best players on the opposing team and that is typically core to what a team is trying to do.
He is a special player.

had to chime in here again and say just how much i love this trade for both teams. it's as good a trade as you can come up with in the nba where it's not a tear down for either side.
og's free agency definitely played a part in all this but none of the rumored deals had a player of quickley's quality coming back. the knicks offer was fournier + picks and my guess was that those picks weren't unprotected ones w/ swaps. they were probably late 1sts or the ones that won't convey. masai wants young players that can play now - not theoretical bad picks that you would need a few more years to develop.
the best rumored deal (again, all rumors) was portland offered the #7 pick and josh hart for og 2 drafts ago. #7 turned out to be shaedon sharpe but who knows if we would've drafted him. i like quickley more b/c he's a guard but that's a comparable deal. every other deal were for mediocre frps.
it's cool for y'all to be excited now but the true evaluation on og as a player will be what the knicks do after april. raptors are in a different phase right now so seeing them help us right now is how we can evaluate it from our side. rj's not our #3 pick so there's a different mentality when it comes to expecatations with him.

When you can pair IQ with another ball-handler/offensive initiator, that is the perfect combo. He and Barnes should work really well.
RJ will be a nice hometown guy to cheer for but there will be brutal weeks and games and hopefully he gets over those young-guy moments.
And yes on the great trade for both teams. Really good on both organizations amongst all the stupidity

OG has been a great fit, but I'm not seeing him as part of a "Big Three". Still seeing us as having a Big Two of Brunson/Randle, with some stellar support around them (OG has looked very good, but has he been more important than Hartenstein has during this same stretch?)
I'll whine for a while because I still feel Quick was the best player in the deal, but no denying fit and refocusing everyone's roles has given us a jolt. Plus it has been great to see Deuce back in the rotation and playing meaningful minutes. Winning makes the acceptance stage that much easier...
