Precious give us defensive versatility and can be rotation piece. I'm not sure Flynn is better than Deuce.

This trade gives us the one thing have needed all year, some 6’8” type defensive players who can match up with guys like Tatum. RJ was not big enough and is only an average defender. OG and Precious Achiuwa gives us two defensive players who can fill that role.

agreed. Grime ang OG makes for real good defense. I just wish mitch could play with this group.

I think Grimes and OG is what you need next to Brunson and Randle. It just compliments them too well.

Yeah, I was wondering about that. Does DDV make more sense coming off the bench now for bench scoring? Is it Deuce time?

Team could go with DDV in the IQ role. Start Grimes again and have two 3 and D wings. Or upgrade further with Fornier and picks for an upgrade. Let's see if they have a move or two left. Maybe a deal for a upgrade at the 2 and maybe a smaller deal for a center to back up Heart. Or they may go with what we go and use the first rounders we have in the next draft.

OGA is the most overrated player in the league imo. An overrated role player who will ask and likely get All-Star level money. He's 3 years older than RJ too.

Say what you want about RJ. I know he never lived up to the hype and expectation of being the 3rd overall pick but it wasn't due to lack of effort. RJ worked hard, was a great teammate, no drama and gave us some nice moments and helped change the culture. We get swept by the cHeat if it wasn't for RJ in that series. Same with IQ! Another player who is better than OGA imo. Was graded a D + when drafted and went on to develop into the best 6th man in the league. Another kid who was all basketball, hard working, improved every season and was getting better.

Achiuwa and Flynn are garbage. This makes us a playin level team unless there is a follow up trade quick.

Sad day.

OG is definitely not garbage.
However, always question a player who came from a so called well rostered team who just did not do much. OG was surrounded by really good players and they did nothing.
Also feel we have up a dog in IQ, who played well in this jungle we call NY for a guy who seems afraid of his own shadow despite talent.

Roster management played a part, I think. Those Toronto teams were oddly constructed. OG was a dog in the games I've seen, he's just not gifted scorer off the dribble. As for IQ... It's tough But this team had too many guards and I'm doubtful IQ was pleased with the situation. At least we got something for him.

Probably.
What is true, is that we would be in for over $50 million with IQ and RJ. A lot for a second round exit tram. But just liked IQs potential. Would have loved to see him inserted into starting SG and Deuce as backup in second unit. But we know Thibs likes his 9 man rotations.
Also thought you have to reward your home grown guys when they produce. IQ did.
Did not want to see RJ go just yet but his inconsistency made him hard to keep. Especially if you want to compete in next couple of years.

hopefully with OG being a much better C&S guy, DDV can go back to the bench.

Our size, defense and shooting with Grimes and OG can be dangerous.

I could be wrong but I think OG is only eligible to sign 2 year deal right now and then 4 year deal on 7/1.

I read an article saying he can sign a 4yr extension up until today but if it is not done today, then he would be limited to two years until the summer.

you actually think there was room for a 10th man? do you not see all these guys we had at or near career lows in MPG already?

martin @ 12/30/2023 3:29 PM
ha

Brunson = different version of DRose
iHart/Mitch = Noah
Randle = better Carlos Boozer

Not with Quickley involved. The team is worse. The writing was on the wall when they signed Donte though. Knicks didn't want to pay Quickley. Thats a bad choice.

Agreed. Really thought the wing log jam was going to be resolved by trading RJ and Grimes.
Did not expect the Knicks to let one of their most productive draft picks go. or
Let's hope that OG becomes that GLUE guy the SL needs and that Grimes steps up in second unit.

Devo needs to come off the bench and fulfill the 6th man role. Grimes should start again.

Disagree. Devo is not afraid to shoot with first unit. SL needs that from SG.
Grimes needs to be given the ball and either develop or move on. He has that chance on second unit.

The core of the trade ages the team a coulee of years and scores 10 pts + LESS per game. Does the defensive upgrade compensate for this? I’m not seeing it, but I’d love to be wrong.

Quickly is a tough loss w/ this trade.

I think Precious, along with Sims and Taj can spot enough minutes at center. I don't see any obvious moves to upgrade the two tho. At least not during the season.

I need time to get my thoughts together on this trade, but just remember, Toronto offered him that 4 year max and he turned it down. He wanted more opportunity, and just got traded to the same situation.

He’s CAA. He will be extended

I am going to be honest, I am not sure what is worse. Signing him to a contract north of the 30 mil he turned down, or not signing him and letting him walk for nothing. This is not angood situation in my eyes.

Only way this trade makes sense is we let OG walk in FA and use cap room to get a superstar like Giannis

What’s interesting is how you (Joe) look at this as a loss loss.

I see this as a win win.

If OG shines and the team goes on a winning streak and deep into the playoffs, that’s a win.
Or if he doesn’t sign a new contract and we use that cap space on a superstar, that’s a win.

I agree. All we have to do is not give OG an insane extension before the offseason

Agree. I was also responding to Joe and agreeing with your take. Sorry if that wasn’t clear.

OG literally just got traded to the same situation he was trying to leave. He turned down a. 30 mil a year contract. He left Klutch because he wanted 40 mil a year.

https://hoopshype.com/2023/12/30/og-anun...

Article says he MAY take less than 40 to be in NY.

So he is in the same situation he wanted to leave. He wants an insance contract for what he does. They just gave up their 3 best trade chips for a role player. Or a player that now people expect to make a jump after going on 7 years in the league when people were crying after 4 years of RJ.

Cap space is air. You are automatically assuming someone will sign in NY. Who?Giannis is not leaving MIL after one year. Mitchell is not a FA and not a great fit. I want to know who this guy is. And be realistic. No one is trading for 2 stars (and OG is NOT a star, I do not care what anyone says. He is an Uber role player) in 1 season.

If hebleaves the Knicks NEED to sign someone. If he doesn't leave it has to be to an on market contract. They have put themselves in a pretty poor position. I am not saying there was another trade to make or this is even the wrong one. But A LOT of moving pieces have to now fit for this to be the right move.

Forget that a player I like was involved. Cost, risk, potential...I'm sorry none of this lines up for me. They made a much riskier trade than they needed to.

JesseDark wrote:So how good are the secondary pieces we received Precious and Malachi?

Allegedly, they make a mean bowl of Chili. Other than that, think of Theo Pinson.

PA is a role player averaging 7 a game.
Flynn only plays well against us, so there is that. Lol

You see the short term vision!. The long term vision is better also. All this potential defense opens us up to more stars. Adding another bad defense star to what we had before would have went poorly. Sorry if there are typos I am tying while on the treadmill.

i told my raptors folks last year that once og signed with CAA he was gonna be a knick lol.

og is probably going to get $35-40 mil a year. precious is a good defender but thibs has to really restrict his role to just defense. he's a spaz otherwise. flynn is 15th man.

iq/barnes fit should be great and hoping iq explodes like maxey.

detroit 2nd is #31 - guaranteed. the knicks other picks (like dallas and washington) will never convey so they don't have as much value imho.

this is an old school fair trade by 2 teams that want to re-balance their teams. really solid deal! nba needs more deals like this.

how did this trade happen with both teams in court?

Embiid can look at OG, Grimes, Brunson, Hart, DDV, iHart and wonder what it would be like.
