Knicks · Knicks look good, but now they need a new 6th man (page 12)

You think that helped?

Didn't Thibs pull the starters with 5 minutes left vs. Philly? This is Nalod's point- it's on the the losing coach to raise the white flag- not the team who's winning.

If the biggest gripe of the day is that our guys stay in too long as we consistently blow teams out of the water then it's a wonderful day in Knicks land and Thibs is sitting comfy right now.

That about sums it up

Man I would love to add Deni to this roster as backup 3/4. Hart, OG, Deni are perfect for each other.

Thankfully it wasnt serious, but it was moronic to keep JB in the game. Thibs has been doing this going back to the Bulls. But hey we won last night! Who cares if a player's career gets wrecked because a coach is too insecure to trust his bench? Again, Brunson has already been hurt once this season in garbage time.

Speaking of the bench, as swishfm alluded to, those garbage minutes could be spent giving young bench players experience in high pressure situations. JB and Randle holding a 20pt+ lead with 3,4 minutes on the clock isnt a high pressure situation, but it is for young players who have little to no experience closing an NBA game. They dont want to be bench players forever, and garbage time is an opportunity for bench players to show they can handle more responsibility if called upon. And be ready if called upon.

Its also about how they do in practice. But the opportunities for young players to learn by doing are limited. Always playing your stars in garbage time limits their opportunities even more.

Thats two good reasons why Thibs shouldnt play his best players in garbage time. Im happy about a blowout against a lotto team, but not about this.

What I highlighted are your words. If its a high pressure situation, its not garbage.
There is a low probability they get hurt but if you must you'll keep scraping to find reasons.
If for some reason that bench dump starts to blow a lead and you have to bring your starters back in, then its far more probable they will get hurt.
Gustav vs 2 time COY Thibs on this subject. You the man!!!

And Nalod said the same thing about Phil, Rambis (one of the worst coaches in NBA history) You've flacked for some God awful coaches and execs. Then admitted they werent all that in NY, long after the fact.

You're right, I'm not a player. I dont vote for Thibs every year as the coach players want to play for the least. Why? Cause Gustav wrote some mean things about Thibs on a message board? Im all for team spirit, not cult-like behavior Nalod.

Your deflecting like my son used to at age 14. Winning an argument becomes more important then the facts.

We all say some funny things in our years here. I defended my stance on Phil many times as "He had good ideas that did not execute".
What is there to defend. The record on the court speaks for itself then as in now.

those garbage minutes could be spent giving young bench players experience in high pressure situations.

Sorry you can't see the humor in that statement because you are so intent on being that guy who is right.

Problem with Denimis he really can’t and/or doesn’t want to shoot from distance.

I do like the rest of his game.

You see the vision though. Got to get him before he becomes a complete player or he won't be available.

He would be nice. But with our limited assets ( cap space, roster spots, and tradeable contracts ) we need to acquire another shot creator and a 4/5 first.

Atlanta fans expect Dejounte to be moved.

If it’s to the Knicks, gotta be Grimes and picks.

In the grand scheme. Landing a Deni with his skill set, versatility and fit for the club will be the harder task.

Well let's see what happens, it won't be long now, before we know the objective. However, if I were to bet, we go for Brogdon or Murray, and then a player to back up Heart. A wing can be added in the off-season.

You know, Fournier and Bogdan Bogdonavic's salaries match seamlessly. Too redundant to Ragu?

Anybody watch the Hawks game yesterday? Murray is trash. I’d rather keep Grimes. Whatever he was, he ain’t anymore

He just doesn't look like difference maker to me. He can get to the basket, but teams know that's all he can do. Think RJ trying to force it in crunch time dribbling into double and triple teams except Murray is a better finisher. He may put up stats, but they are pretty empty to me. I'd rather have a player who can spread the floor like Grimes and doesn't need to have the ball in his hands to be effective. I think Grimes is also a better defender. Whenever I watch, I don't see Murray making any difference at all. It could just be because they'd rather attack other players on that team who absolutely suck at defense but I don't see Murray making any defensive plays.

nycericanguy @ 1/8/2024 12:09 PM
DJM actually shooting a higher % from 3 than Grimes and on more volume/tougher shots.

Whoever the front office trades for right now, I will give them the benefit of the doubt. Their last two acquisitions, Devo and OG,earn them the trust of the fan base.
