Knicks · Knicks Offseason Preview (page 19)

I'm not worried at all about OG leaving. We might have to bring out the brinks truck but that is what it is. I think that story probably got planted as Leon and his Son laugh at the reactions. Knicks seem to backchannel all of their big decisions and this is akin to hiring Brunson's dad so they could get a leg up on that situation. That is the main reason OG hired Leon's son.

VDesai wrote:If you listen to that KFS Cap or no Cap they wind up spending a ton of time talking about the Knicks potentially making a move for Isaac Okoro for a mid-level or S&T. Intellectually it makes sense as he's a wing defender who can approximate the role of OG when OG is out. Okoro also shot well from 3 last year and on catch and shoots from the Corner. This is all well and good, but I just think he sucks. When you don't put a defender on him when it matters he can't knock down shots.

Now one player they kind of skip over, but I think makes sense for the 8-12 min backup role behind Brunson is Cam Payne. He can run an offense and he can knock down a 3 despite his weird lefty shot. He is a pest and probably makes sense for a small role.

nice, glad to see he's on our radar. I like him and Royce O'neal as MLE options.

Okoru does kind of suck, especially in big games, but he can help during the season, plays a ton of games, and maybe has some upside.

He's a good guy to be OG insurance. When OG is healthy that guy might not even play. When OG is hurt he probably gets thrust into a sizable role. Hard to find guys who fit that scenario where you don't have to play them every night but they can do a good job being OG-lite when they do play for stretches. Okoro makes sense. I think rookies also make sense for that role.

or Frank...

Frank can defend multiple positions, and I think he can hit an open 3 better on this team that actually moves the ball. and he's fine being a 12th man. and of course he's vet min. plus he can handle the ball a bit too.

Curious where frank pops up next year if at all in the NBA.
Aside, the rise of the French and Canadian players is really quite interesting.
That CHina, with a BILLON more people have yet to build on the popularity of Yao Ming.
THe NBA Acadamy in Africa is also producing opportunities. David Sterns vision of a global game is coming to light over time. Rise in revenue is a big factor. Global growth and new revenue streams are impressive.

Frank, Knox, Frank Williams, Lampe, Milos and of course Rokas are all welcome!

Funny we stopped talking about Rokas?

OG is not going anywhere. He is going to take a big chunk of our salary cap but that is to be expected.

Kevin Knox is in the G League. Maybe he goes overseas at some point too. Back to back lottery picks.

damn what timing...

Wishing Frank the best, I was in his camp although I never understood why there had to be such a wide gap between wanting, hoping, maybe even expecting him to do well as opposed to being a...ahem...Frank hater sucking it. Clearly he did not pan out - my question would be how much due to injuries, the New York spotlight, or in my book an awful team with worse coaching. Of course ultimately it's up to him and he couldn't put it together. I still think the obsessive dislike for him was Phil residue. Anyway, it's all been said but that doesn't stop us from saying it again...and again....

I believe Frank, when drafted, had the greatest chance of being either a bust or star-

https://www.espn.com/nba/story/_/id/19681478/most-likely-all-stars-starters-role-players-top-2017-nba-draft

The most interesting player in this draft may be point guard Frank Ntilikina of France. Ntilikina is just 18 years old, and in just under 600 minutes in French league Pro-A this season, he shot an above-average 43 percent from behind the 3-point line, equaling an eFG percentage of 57. His efficient play at such a young age in Europe makes him the most likely member of this class to play at an All-Star level, but his limited minutes and the unknowns that accompany the fact that he is coming from Europe, also give him a 59 percent chance of being a bust according to our model.

I have Goga Bitadze as a potential backup C.

Zach Edey is also growing on me.

Goga I think is worth keeping an eye on, especially if we lose iHart or decide to deal Mitch. ESPN put a mock trade of Mitch for Kennard/Future first. Not saying I would do that, but if you did do something like that you could non-guarantee Bogey, replace him with Kennard and then sign Goga for part of the MLE to replace Mitch. I don't think this makes us better, but you can maybe net out some savings here to stay under the aprons.

I don't think there was obsessive dislike for him. He just plainly sucked for an 8th pick. It was pretty clear. Zero offensive game. Was supposed to be a PG, couldn't initiate an offense AT ALL.

You turning a question into “an excuse” reveals your agenda. And no need to acknowledge the sentence following stating it’s on him.

You can stop hating him now, it’s been years.

Of course there was obsessive dislike for him. Although my theory is it’s misplaced Phil hate.
