Read that OG will be exploring free agency and will listen to other team's offers. I really hope it's just to avoid tampering charges when we sign him 10 mn after free agency starts. Him leaving for nothing would be catastrophic.

Heh. I had to ask my wife if it was okay first.

Don't fall for the OG BS. No chance we trade Quick and RJ without knowing we would sign him. The question is how much.

Also, his agent is the president's son.

You're not supposed to officially avoid talking business with a free agent even if he's on your team?

On rival teams. You are allowed to talk to players on your own team.

Prior to the OG trade, I mentioned my only concern regarding trading for OG.
My thinking was that it seemed OG wanted out of Toronto because he wanted a bigger role.
Wants to be a 1A somewhere. Which would not be the case here with JB and Randle.
And of course the cost of his upcoming deal.
I would love to run it back but feel that will be tough with the cost projected to keep everyone.
Including OG.
Unlike some who feel the path is to give up draft capital for guys like Bridges or DM, I feel the only path may be to use the draft picks to find someone in this years draft who can be a solid value contributor. Which will leave enough salary space to sign guys like OG and IHart. Not to mention, leave money for extending JB. I am hoping Rose bundles draft picks to move up, is able to resign OG and goes and finds a couple more value FAs. Which he is very good at doing.

I am not in the least bit worried about retaining OG. If he wants to get his money we will give it to him. There’s no scenario where he walks IMO.

Knicks can absolutely keep everyone core. They'll just be up against the second apron and then some different types of decisions need to be made.

Nalod @ 5/24/2024 8:47 AM
Maybe there needs to give the appearance of fairness that OG did not have a deal BEFORE he was traded for Sam to not look like he is in cahoots with his dad. Sam is an active member of CAA and the insinuations can work both ways.
Also, it maybe its in OG's best interests he lean his true market value by actually putting himself in that place and listen.
Not saying Leon low balls him but he needs fair representation to ascertain what his value is. Knicks can match it and all will be happy.

OG might want a bigger roll but he also needs to stay healthy. He was playing the game of his life being "The Man" and he blows his hammy and has to come out. His value is about the intangibles and he should be paid.
If for some reason he wants out we can trade him and his big contract to a place he prefers to be.
Philly should make a run at him just to get him off the court when we play them! He was instrumental in that series with his defense on Joel.

jaydh @ 5/24/2024 3:56 PM
Just retain our current team, and draft a ball handler and athletic PF. Any trading the Knicks do, should be to move around the draft to get the players we want.

I’m here unless Mitchell or Bridges are available. Btw, Mitchell just built a gym in Greenwich, CT. I am in favor of bringing the man home.

I guess it depends on the offer. If it's a 1 for 1 player wise like Bogs and 4-5 1sts for Bridges then ok.

Rose and the Knicks have shown hesitancy going into the first or second apron. Cost includes restrictions placed to teams in either apron. Second tier gives less flexibility for trades if the original plan gets foiled due to injury or because players drop in production. One thing is for sure. If they resign “everyone” they will be in the apron. As much as I want to “run it back with everyone ”, my gut is that Rose knows that certain role players can be had to replace the production of guys like Ihart, Precious and Burks. As for our big three. Hope rumors are true about OG. That along with extending JB and Randle will signal Roses feeling on those three being enough to win a chip. Which I think is a good take. A take that can always be abandoned in a couple of years if proven to be a wrong one.

This is going to be a “boring” offseason for the Knicks. I expect them to bring back their top 8 players (Brunson, Randle, OG, Donte, hart, Hartenstein, Mitch and deuce) plus Sims on his cheap deal. Then it’s all about filling out the roster with draft picks and cheap help. I think the draft will be our busy time, then it will be a lowkey summer. Bogey is the biggest question mark. I think he’s either used in a deal prior to his full contract guarantee or the Knicks let him go. He’s very expensive and Knicks can easily avoid the first apron without him. They can simply retain both Burks and Achiuwa for less total dollars than bogey will cost to retain. Just a guess though. Maybe they don’t care. Either way it will be good to bring back this entire group plus hopefully have 2-3 rookies on the roster to watch develop, which this team needs. They have been excellent at drafting later in the draft (IQ, grimes, deuce, sims) when they have actually drafted. The culture is set and player development is there.
