Hell yeah, bring it on

Garrett2010PSD @ 6/26/2024 10:10 AM
When I heard about this last night I was stunned. I even had a little trouble sleeping.

Never did I imagine the Nets helping the Knicks. I know the Knicks gave up a lot, but those picks will be very low firsts.

Bridges was a no brainer, I just never thought it was realistic.

His position versatility and defense will be invaluable here. I would think he would fill in at SF when OG inevitably misses some games.

Need to bring back OG or it will be a buzzkill for sure. I think Knicks are working hard on that now.

I want Ihart back but media is acting like he is a goner. I hope not.

They will already lose Precious and Burks (as well as Bogs who was traded) and can't afford to lose anyone else.

But this is an amazing day to be a Knicks fan.

Being a championship contender is now within reach! Go Knicks!!!!

VDesai @ 6/26/2024 10:11 AM
Yeah right now I just trust the front office ability to get more picks (they have done it repeatedly) and sign good contracts (also have done that). They also get good player fits over and over. I love Mikal the player and the fit. What I dont love is philosopphically giving up unprotected picks more than 3 years out as a general practice. I think teams often get burned by that. This will be a fundamentally different team probably with a different coach and a fundamentally different core by the time we move the last pick.

However that is probably what had to happen to make the deal and not give up a Deuce to sweeten it.

Nalod @ 6/26/2024 10:11 AM
Mikal slender build puts him mostly at the 2 or 3. Not a 4.
Mitch in the past is not the same as mitch in the future. What he has done has no bearing on what has yet to be done.
He has been vital to our success and his absence vital to falling short.
If his trade value is high then why don’t we keep him? For the same reasons his value might not be.
If we have to choose between him and iHart, I pick iHart.

Im not worried about what we Paid for OG or not. Reality is now and forward. Teams lose players all the time and bounce back. What can OG salary slot do for us in the future if he walks?
If we trade him, thats a different story.
Or…….
Do we move him to the for and Randle is traded and we solve depth at the 5 somewhow?
Age of Parity means you can’t stack a Dynasty. Prices have to be paid and games matter.

Knicks FO got this figured out. We are just guessing. Cool stuff BTW, this is fun!!!!!

what does getting "burned" look like though?

Is it possible we end up giving up a top 5 pick? sure... but wouldn't that just be fair value? would you be happy trading Mikal if he was on our team for just late 1sts?

Nets need to get at least one elite asset back for this to be a good trade for them. We traded nothing in the way of players so if they get a top 5 pick a few years down the road so be it. We're about to have a helluva run.

nycericanguy wrote:Mitch for a future 1st, even a late 1st, would make sense to replenish some draft stock.

This would not be a problem at all. Mitch has a lot of value in the league.

You could also probably snipe a second in the deal as well.

MaTT4281 @ 6/26/2024 10:30 AM
Wow, did not expect to wake up to this today. Love it!

Purely on paper, yes I agree it's an overpay. But NYK has been swimming in picks - eventually you have to spend them, and why not get the absolutely perfect piece roster wise and chemistry wise while doing so? We are the Villanova Knicks, we're doubling down on that.

Teams cater to their stars all the time bringing in big names, meanwhile our catering involves versatile glue guys that already fit together and have proven success. Not exactly trying to shove the square peg into the round hole (pause).

No, I don't agree this signals the end of Randle. We recognized the absence of his scoring since Feb, especially in the post season. The fact that we splurge on Bridges instead of bringing in a big time scorer like PG or Mitchell tells me we still have plans for him.

Idk how (or if) this impacts the OG negotiations...probably not. But at least now we can go to OG and say - you don't have to do it all by yourself on D. We have another stopper who can lighten the load. And we're focused on being a contender NOW. Hope iHart feels the same when he's deciding between winning in NY vs. getting paid in Detroit (anyone got Jeremi Grant's number?) Expecting the Brunson extension in the coming weeks.

You right

It's being reported that this trade wasn't finalized today. The door is open for adding on.

VDesai wrote:Wow - what a wild trade. If OG returns we have the best wing defense in the NBA. Mikal more than good enough as a shooter and has the ability to get his own shot - or at least had to for 2 yrs in Brooklyn.

The cost is crazy- but only Bogey in terms of rotation players which means we remain stacked. Its the 2029 and 2031 unprotected picks - we couldnt have thrown some protections on that to make it work? Im sure the Nets made us pay a premium.

Hartenstein has to come back. Would be tough to lose him now.

We got Mikal without trading any players - there was a premium for that also. Not even Deuce went in the trade. Wild.

And this is why the draft capital price was so high. Bogs only player included.

i'll reply twice because this is a great post.

UTAH reportedly wanted RJ, IQ, 3 unprotected 1sts, + the MIL 1st + 2 seconds.

So we ended up giving up RJ, IQ, 4 unprotected, MIL 1st, DET 2nd + a swap for OG, Mikal and a 2nd. I'll take that. but of course now we know we are a legit contender so are earlier picks aren't nearly as valued.

Utah also wanted Grimes.

I understand that Mitch is often injured. But he is crucial for particular matchups. We don't get past Philly without him. He also makes me feel confident when going against Milwaukee and Cleveland too

cant keep everyone, its a $ thing.

At this point it’s all but guaranteed one of iHart and Mitch are gonna go.

Not necessarily. No matter what Knicks do they are capped at what they can offer Ihart.

The key factor here is would he accept less than what he could get on the open market.

DET just renounced Wiseman also...
MaTT4281 @ 6/26/2024 10:44 AM
Can't wait for that first preseason game where we unleash the Brunson/DDV/Bridges/Hart/Randle lineup.

Would love Wiseman on the Knicks.

I don't know our cap situation but couldn't we use an exception on him?

yes can't imagine he'd command much.

[Sidery] The Pistons will soon renounce James Wiseman making him an unrestricted free agent. Instead of giving Wiseman a 1-year qualifying offer, Detroit prefers to clear more cap space. The former No. 2 overall pick will be an intriguing buy-low option on the veteran’s minimum market.

MaTT4281 @ 6/26/2024 10:50 AM
OG now our second FA priority, behind Arcidiacono.

Guess he could give us the 7 pts a game and rebound. He is not a stretch 3 pt shooting big, which is what I hope we get out of the draft.

Chandler @ 6/26/2024 10:56 AM
Back when we landed Brunson i recall some analysis that Randle was most effective assisting on corner threes. the thought at the time is that where Brunson would be hanging when Randle barreled to the basket

If that analysis were correct it should be double good with Mikal (and OG)

we have a lot of versatility now

This guy kind of misses the point that trading Cam Johnson and Mikals Bridges for KD on the backend of his career is a little different than trading Bogdanovic for Bridges entering his prime.

I would jump all over that. Low risk, high reward.
