Yeah, Jones would seem more likely. I would pass. The Knicks can't afford to get smaller.

He was first team All NBA defense. All NBA defense was Herb Jones and 4 centers. Meaning, he is the best 'qualifying' wing defender in the league last year (I see you OG). 41% 3pt shooting and a 7'1.5" wingspan? Played 76 games last year. Locked in low price contract through 26-27 paying under 15m. Seriously, what more could a person want?

Trey is also a gem, but Jones is already collecting accolades. I would take either and give up additional assets to end up with either. Could see us with Murphy and Nick Richards (CHA) in an absolute coup.

I think both are unlikely TBH. I'm a fan of both, but one of the reasons for the their Brandon Ingram impasse is that they see Trey Murphy as his successor. They're probably not giving him up. Also, as good as Jones is, he's another 3 and D. We could use him. Every team could use him. But our center depth is almost as bad as the Pelicans. Can we really afford to trade big for small?

Towns is probably a 5 in NYC - so then your center depth is theoretically Towns, Precious and Sims (and even Huk Hogan). Now the issues is your power forward depth. However the way things going the Knicks are gonna playing Anunoby and Hart at the 4 in a lot of lineups and someone like Jones is probably big enough and a good enough defender/rebounder to play the 4 next to Towns or Achiuwa in a lineup. I like the idea of Robinson off the bench as a weapon to defend bigger 5's (we saw how important that was against Embiid, and I think you can use him against Cleveland and a few other teams you might find yourself against in the playoffs). However adding Jones as a backup 3/4 also fills a current gap - and he hit the corner 3 last year, so there's a spacing boost that may come from it as well.

Oh man. Herb Jones or Trey Murphy would be amazing. Like bonkers amazing. Like pass me a cigarette.

Would love Murphy but he has a year and then QO coming up.
How can we pay him?

Out team is clearly very interested in players under longer contracts.

Yes, Bird rights so you can extend as a normal rookie, regardless of aprons.

martin @ 9/30/2024 3:50 PM
I just wonder if the Pelicans are rolling and figure out their BI long game, if Mitch would be a target for them. Dominos have to fall correctly

I’d be interested in the advanced stats of these guys at playing PF.

I’d rather take a chance on a young, promising 4 or 5. Looks like more of a need than at 3. Looks like we’re in good shape there.

Would also be curious to know if Mitch was ever offered for Kessler.

you put this in the KAT thread? This team has Warriors offense vibes. Josh is our Draymond and even Josh gets 40% from the corner for his career.

IDK why we would trade Mitch tho

The weird part: the Knicks FO wanted to move Mitch/Randle to Minny, not DDV.

I don’t what to make of that.

Brunson 40%(All NBA)/Bridges37% (All Def 1st) / Jones 42% (All Def 1st) / OG 39% (All Def 2nd) / KAT 41.6% (All NBA)

But what other team could put up these kind of accolades for the next 5 years? AND, if you switched to Trey Murphy, you'd have about 7mm of trade exception to take back a center like Nick Richards.

If the Pelicans are engaged with the Knicks, they have to include one of Jones or Murphy to make the numbers work. Meaning, if they picked up the phone they are probably ok with moving Jones and the Knicks are pushing for Murphy.

They should accept Jones and move on.

They may have to if they can't undo Daquan Jeffries signing with Partizan. The numbers don't yet work on the KAT trade.

Cause the numbers work without unfucking the Partizan signing of Daquan Jeffries.

Either seem like good options considering Motchbis always hurt and KAT no playing the 5.
Murphy is good friends with KB and Josh. There’s that

Yeah, I see Trey as the more athletic player with higher upside. Jones is cost controlled for 3 years. If either are an option, I don't really understand the hesitation.

No I meant from a roster construction standpoint.

Knicks would rather move their only C after KAT before a guard where they had tons of overlap.

That’s odd?

Was anyone able to verify if any of this Mitch trade rumor stuff is true? Any known and reliable sources reporting anything?

My guess: because the Knicks were shopping Mitch already and also tried to initially include him in the Minny trade, they prob let him Randle DDV know that something was cooking as a heads up.

And then it cascades from there. Mitch is clickbait

My take is that it is just math. Randle + Robinson + Achiuwa fits is $50k over KAT's contract. Achiuwa's contract seems carefully constructed to make the math work on December 15.

The pre-training camp trade barely works if they get the Charlotte sign and trades to align. They still don't have the numbers down and may need to trade Mitch anyway to get the numbers to work. That explains the fingers crossed in Mitch's feeds.

Makes sense.

NOP has a fuckton of TPE’s, something to watch. Maybe NOP wants Nick Richard’s and they get looped in.

I would not be surprised if Mitch, Deuce go out and a wing and someone makes it to Knicks.
