They said the same thing about iHart before he came here. And Thibs turned him into a run protector. I’m not worried about Kats defense. But other team will have nightmares guarding JB now. The RIM lanes will be WIDE OPEN. JB is cooking this year.

I think people overstate his “bad” on defense. I love this guy’s takes on tape. I don’t expect him to be Tyson Chandler good at defense. But he can hold his own.

I’m not that familiar with D-Lebron. What does it do?

I think the emotional gut punch of this is the toughest. Donte stepped up in a way no one thought he could, and he hit one of the biggest shots in my Knicks fan lifetime. He was fearless and the type of player NY loves.
Randle straight up saved the franchise. The guy came here and exceeded expectations and made us a credible teams. Lot of emotional ups and downs from him and for the the fans, but without him we are not here.
From an intellectual standpoint it all makes sense. Its better spacing. Its better size. Randle extension was gonna be tough. It does right by DDV and gives him a better opportunity on his next contract.
Is KAT ready for NYC? Will he play defense? Only one way to find out. When we added Bridges, I thought we would keep Hartenstein and might trade Randle and Mitch for OG, but OKC gave him ridiculous money. Now Mitch stays and its a still a crucial role for him to play, but perhaps more well equipped.
Deuce slots in for DDV bench shooting. Rugged on defense.
We never will realize the dream of the January Knicks or the Nova Knicks and thats sad.
But these are the Jalen Knicks. 3 strong wings, a stretch 5 with unlimited offensive talent and maybe the one guy in the world with mental fortitude and mentality to bring a title to this City.

I am sad to see Ju go. Always wanted to see TripleDouble Randle crushing it. But I understand the move.
KAT will be fine in NY.
This team may take a little time to gel. But on paper and without a health history report it looks like a top 3 team got better.

I absolutely love this video take, including the human sound affects (boosh…boosh). I forgot how agile Kat is on his feet guarding pick and rolls. Looks like we have him at the perfect time in his career at 28 yrs old. Seems like his defensive issues was not ability but effort. And in this series under the bright lights of the playoffs against the champs while guarding an MVP caliber player, (on an island) Kat stepped up. Now image what he looks like under a defensive genius name Thibs. I’m not worried. Health is my ONLY concern at this point.
DLeethal@ 9/29/2024 9:04 AM
I have a feeling KAT is gonna surprise us on D. Most of what he needs to do is be big and be in position. I think Thibs is going to turn him into a plus defender. He’s going to have tons of defensive support around him which will make his job easier. Hartemstein was not known as a defender when we got him either. Brook Lopez is another guy who played no defense, was slow footed and not agile and became a great defender when the supporting cast and team culture was lifted to a certain level.

Both excellent takes!

So after watching this clip it makes since why they signed him. Especially knowing Donte was on his way out. Also side note I believe (just my guest) they tried to off load Mitch instead but minny turned that down). Makes since why Mitch was sending those crazy tweets.
But Shamet is a solid shooter who doesn’t need the ball and can catch and shoot but with more height and size. The question is will he crack Thibs rotation. The positive is he will not complain about playing time like Donte would’ve. Nice low cost pickup for this team who needs shooting after losing Donte.
nycericanguy@ 9/29/2024 9:56 AM
yea Shamet makes alot more sense now, and lets not forget DDV was a journeyman til he came here, about the same age as Shamet.

Leon has done an incredible job building a team we could all love, root for, and identify with. But he’s not immune to mistakes—just look at that offseason when he signed Walker, Fournier, Burks, and Noel.
This trade feels like a misstep. KAT has always been one of Leon’s guys, part of his shortlist with Mitchell, Booker, and Embiid. But NYC isn’t for everyone, and I don’t believe it’s for KAT. Donte DiVincenzo was a fan favorite, and Julius Randle always took the heat for the team. As fans, we loved just about every player on this roster. But when KAT gets exposed on defense, starts whining to the refs, and the pressure ramps up, it’s hard to see him holding up. The criticism is going to be relentless, and I’m not sure he can handle it.
Yes, a move was needed, but I can’t help thinking a smaller one—while keeping DDV—would’ve made more sense. KAT’s contract is a huge burden, and now we’re left questioning our depth. Does Thibs revert to heavy minutes for the starters? Maybe Mitch backs up the 5, Precious plays the 4, and Kolek gives Brunson a breather. But there’s a lot of uncertainty after this trade.
Plus, let’s not forget, KAT literally drove Thibs crazy in Minnesota. Jimmy Butler forced his way out because of Towns. It just seems like KAT doesn’t get it, and now we’re stuck with that.

Not to me, given the unknown. If we couldn't afford Randle's extension, then he had to go. In addition, a guard had to go to clear the glut - we traded 1 to a team that highly coveted that guard. You trading Duece? Hart? 1 of them had to go or you risk devaluing all of them. We solved a couple problems, while upgrading the SL.
As of right now, all key players are signed for this year and next before more difficult decisions need to be made (Bridges, Robinson extensions).

How you gonna do Burks and Noel dirty like that?
ToddTT@ 9/29/2024 10:21 AM
I've had another night to sleep on it, and put aside emotions, bias, etc.
And you know what? This trade sucks... something. Can't put my finger on it.

He only averaged half a block. Well he was playing PF and it was Gobert’s job to protect the rim and block shots. He’s not going to be prime Tyson Chandler but 95% of nba teams don’t have that

Love this trade. Randle wasn't playoff ready...still. We are going all in.
nycericanguy@ 9/29/2024 11:11 AM
DDV before coming here was a 10ppg 36% 3pt journey man. 26 years old and on his 4th team in 4 years. Now will be 5 teams in 5 years.
Shamet is about the same age, also a bit of a journey man, 9ppg 38% from 3 on the same type of volume as DDV.
This FO has done a great job finding great value, maybe Shamet is that next guy.
Because if you take DDV out of this, KAT is just flat out better at everything than Randle. Better scorer, better shooter, better passer, better shotblocker, much better playoff performer. And more importantly, a much better FIT with his spacing and ability to play the C position as well.

This is all iHart’s fault. None of this happens after that first domino?
Whose decision, iHart or Roses, was the 2 yr contract for iHart? Didn't that make a difference over ultimate control?
Oh absolutely a fuck up by Leon.

KAT was 12 rpg and 1.5 bpg in the first few years of his career playing more at center. Lets see if he can recapture that. His shot blocking role was limited playing next to Rudy
