We have something special over here. Two all NBA players and a nice supporting cast around them + nice options to develop down the pipeline

That's probable. KD is one of the players I dislike most in the league but I'd be intrigued if the deal was only for KAT. The cap flexibility alone after 2027 without KAT is worth it alone.

boy that's a bad trade. Basically a salary dump for a 29 year old big who started in the AS game and just went to b2b conference finals in both leagues. Just a terrible phucking trade.

What about Knicks trade OG, Robinson, and Kolek for Giannis? McBride or Dadiet instead of Kolek also work. Maybe Dadiet has the most value because he's still under contract for 3 more years. Knicks have the Wizards pick and swaps to throw in. Knicks end up with:

Brunson, Bridges, Hart, KAT, Giannis

The bench would still need some filling out, but I don't think it would be any more or less difficult than the past off seasons.

It’s going to be something like that and Hart might be included as well but my gut says they want to pair Brunson - Mikal - Giannis - KAT and add a sniper SG.

I’m not a huge KAT guy but the most perfect player you can pair with him in the entire league is Giannis. And Mikal just seems like a great fit there too. Damn how nice it would be to get DDV back in that SG spot in that lineup.

DLeethal @ 6/5/2025 7:39 AM
By including Mitch and Hart you could probably scrap 3-4 picks together for the deal if they are going to other teams. Probably can net a 1st for each of those guys at least and we have our WAS pick. OG can probably get you 2 firsts from another team. So those 3 guys can get a Giannis package if Giannis wants the Knicks. Just need to get another 1-2 teams to make it happen. And we would need to get some serviceable players back in return.
Nalod @ 6/5/2025 8:29 AM
We'd need a three way perhaps with the Pels or rockets that might see Mitch or Josh as valuable to them if Milwaukee wants draft capital and yoot.
Im a big OG fan and could be excited if a new coach can unlock him a bit more. Our demon has shown flashes of brilliance on offense at times. I'd less than excited about him being traded but if Giannis is that player with Kat and JB an a rounded team around one could see that potential. Key is to unlock KAT's passing and shooting range also preserving his health, Extending Mikal then trading him could be a valuable asset given his salary this coming year. Giannis is a long shot.

The NBA salary cap for the 2025-26 season is projected to be $154.6 million, up from $140.6 million in 2024-25. The first apron, a threshold for teams to avoid certain penalties for exceeding their cap, is projected at $195.9 million, and the second apron is projected at $207.8 million. These aprons are higher than the 2024-25 levels of $178.1 million and $188.9 million, respectively, due to the salary cap increase.

No way would I trade for Giannis without KAT going out... same issue will remain with the defensive switching and lack of toughness.

OG, Bridges, Giannis, Shamet or Deuce, and Brunson is much tougher due to the improved defense. While Giannis can't shoot from outside it now opens up some inside game that could also help with spacing as Giannis is a one man wrecking crew inside. Giannis inside with those 4 outside. Realize Milw will want more than Giannis but maybe there is a 3 team deal that could allow us to retain OG and Bridges. If not I probably would not make the deal as we need more depth rather then losing already quality players. Maybe Hart is the only one besides KAT that could make sense to part with as Giannis has enough intensity and you can't really play Hart and Giannis much unless somebody decides they would be a shooting threat.

nycericanguy @ 6/5/2025 2:02 PM
i agree, KAT's gotta go in a Giannis trade. You don't need 3 superstars anyway.

It would have to probably be KAT + OG for Giannis.

KAT for Freak works straight up. How are you adding an extra 36M to this deal and making it work? OG + Mitch also works. Jalen + Mitch would also work

DLeethal @ 6/5/2025 2:40 PM
Every indicator is that the Knicks want to get Giannis and keep KAT.

I actually like Brunson - Deuce - Mikal - Giannis - KAT a lot better than

Brunson - Mikal - OG - Giannis - Mitch

First is a much more skilled lineup with better spacing, pacing, ball handling, shooting.

Still don’t know how it’s going to work with a player with the highest usage rate in the league(Giannis) and JB and his high usage rate, using most of the shot clock. KAT was 24th this season. What about touches for the rest of the rotation?

this is our biggest issue

we need to share the ball. I can't think of any team winning a championship behind a pg in ISO

may win during the season and I may be forgetting one but we need the synergy of moving the ball and keeping the opponent's D honest and making all of them work

Not without Steph, Klay and Draymond doing everything for him.

Huh? He was MVP in 2 finals with GS.

NYKBocker wrote:You guys really want Durant? Man is 36 years old. He also thin skinned. I don't think he is built for NY.

Not going to beat a dead horse but the age gap is irrelevant to me because we are looking at a 2-3 year stint whether it's him or KAT, and then they come off the books and we can go FA shopping before Brunson's next deal. To me it is who puts you in a better position for the next 2-3 years? And the answer to me is obvious.

Age matters especially when you are dealing with a 37 year old player day 1 of next season who will probably miss 20-35 games

I’m with DLeethal on this.

If Knicks get Durant I believe it will be with a 2 or 3 year extension —- taking him to 39/40 seasons.

The way Kat is already moving up/down the court and playing D already at 29 I’m not sure I’d want anything to do with him in 3+ years either.

Durant is a huge gamble but if he stays healthy he remains an all time great with minimal regression at this point and his D is far superior to Kat.

Listen I was posting / defending Kat all playoffs and sharing his crazy offensive #s but this Kat doesn’t seem mature enough to give a shit about D or fouling whenever he feels like it —- it’s tough dealing with that.

I would think if we were moving a Kat for KD — we would receive additional assets maybe indirectly via another team in 3-way.

jskinny35 wrote:Now that Thibs is fired it may delay offseason moves as they will probably hire a new coach before sorting out how to proceed this offseason

I have to tell you, I think it expediate the moves knowing exactly what they want to do with coach and roster.

Feel like Leon doesn't do one move without the other but maybe I'm wrong on that. Usually those 2 things are interlocked.

I think extensive decisions and discussions have already taken place regardless of any longer timelines being thrown around.

For example. If they are interested in Kidd they already know if he wants to be here via back channel &|or agent discussions.

And as we’ve heard post prior trades —- ex. Kat they had had extensive discussions with Minny all, last summer before deal being final. Also per Shams we made offer in Durant last Feb so he is really probably a situation where does he want to be and I think we know already.

Knixkik wrote:Agreed that I don’t see us making big moves, especially after firing Thibs. I see they chose to get a coach for the players we have, as opposed to the other way around where we make moves to satisfy Thibs ethos. My thought for judging Leon this summer is getting his #1 choice to coach, whomever that is, and convincing 1 or 2 legitimate players to take less money to come here to help improve the team around the margins. Chris Paul, Al Horford, Caris LeVert, Tyus Jones etc. Guys who you would think can make more money but want to come to be the missing piece. We take our top 7 and add 1 or 2 really good free agents who are willing to come for cheap because they believe we can win it all.

I thought we’ve already had Shams state that Knicks are big game hunting —- I don’t buy our wing talent right now too inconsistent.

This team was 2 games away from going to the championship and it was there first year together… we need to add some bench pieces, unless this team thinks the rooks will develop in year two. Would love to see a dominant wing scorer off the bench .

I think some of the factors that got thibs fired was not unlocking bridges and towns constantly in the offense. I feel like this team needs As our next coach at least offensive coach lol.

We have the greatest shooting 5 in the history of the nba who is going into his prime years and iron man Bridges is prolific scorer. We just need a coach that can bring the offense together consistently.

Beasley and Schroder are free agents question is can we afford a good free agent will any give us a discount to chase a chip.

We shouldn’t be making any big moves. Durant would botch this team. He’s a cancer and an old cancer. I would only want Durant if phoenix was super desperate to get rid of him and offered him for Mikal straight up.

100% and that’s probably not happening.

Love this team and another year of the starters together building chemistry we just need some veteran depth.

Do you love all the fumbling and bumbling of the basketball and all the piss poor D?

I didn’t feel great about much of what we watched last year despite the record and not sure coach changes the offensive dribbling.passing clumsiness.

Brunson / Deuce / Kolek
Bridges / Johnson / Shamet
Vassell / Hart / McCullar
OG / LaRavia / Boucher
Robinson / Maluach / Huk

Not sure SA does this, but they’d pair an all offense PF with an all defense C. Kind of works.

Fox
Castle
Champagnie
KAT
Wemby

No way.
