I think Kleiman was angry at Jenkins for not playing Edey more and he wanted a more traditional coach like Iasalo to run Edey more. Maybe validate the draft position they used in him. The defense was suffering.

I like Edey and I think he was being underrated pre-dradt, but he never made sense on Memphis roster with their core. Strange move by them.

Jenkins comes from the San Antonio/Pop school. You have a lot of strong coaches coming out of there - Budenholzer, Udoka, Hardy, Borrego, even Mike Brown. Kerr also heavily influenced by Pop with 5 years playing for him.

Jenkins helped Bud turn the Hawks around and followed him to Milwaukee for that 60 win season.

Mavericks want draft picks. I like Kidd a lot for our vacancy but I’m not giving up future draft picks

First of you don't know what they want besides precedence but if two future 2nd round picks are the price and this is the guy then you do it.
Nobody wants to give up picks.
Given your self proclaimed clairvoyance perhaps you can describe who is your choice and why that person ascends above the price for Kidd?
Im not saying I don't agree with your view but that is because no candidate employed or not really jumps out and excites me at this point. Even Kidd. But if Leon and Co. decide on him I he'll have my fandom support for what its worth. The genius of any hire is in the results and not the starphuch.
I would hope our core are asked to weigh in on any decision (it won't be public) as they for sure weighed in on the Thibian extraction.

For the moment Im good with Brown and perhaps Jenkins if only because he is younger which is kind of stupid if you think about it. Just seems there would be "More upside"? Brown has been an assistant with 4 rings. Jenkins I was happy to read has one with Bud in Milwaukee.

Jason Kidd signed an extension last summer after his finals appearance. Is he asking to renegotiate that deal? If he leverages on knicks interest is this because he wants to be here? More Money? This would be his third time as a head coach he does this. Not sure I like that characteristic. Not like he has some Phil Jax safe full of rings to pull that kind of crap.

Yeah I take it back. I’ll pass on Jenkins based on this.

When Kidd has his sights on a better deal, all you will see is dust. You don’t feel like he has truly bought into an organization. Just front running the next best destination.

All the other names who are being interviewed, I’d be ok with them as coach. Or an assistant out of nowhere, someone unexpected.

I think we will at least go to 7 in the ECF with a new coach who will use their bench. Where starters aren’t setting playing records. Add that to the talent we have, and I think we will be in good shape next season.

VDesai @ 6/17/2025 6:20 PM

Kris P. With good insights

VDesai @ 6/17/2025 6:42 PM
Its time stamped so you can skip to the cosching part. TLDR is Knicks are casting a wide net, taking their time and not competing with anyone. There are college coaches under consideration who's names have mot been reported. Theh will take their time and do their own thing.

Good Jaren Jackson discussion too

We just fired his clone.

You don't want to see his Civic again?
Actually, I'm in favor of JVG! Bring back the civic!
Was competitive in Houston, but couldnt go deep in the playoffs. As an assistant sure!
I think he would be a great hire. I would also try to hire Johnnie Bryant as assistant head coach

While it’s clear that she is an avid fan, I actually agree with Jenkins’ analytics over the call for a PnR offense even to the extent it would favor Ja. At some point you are choosing between modern analytics versus more traditional offensive sets. To key it to the personnel is important - but the argument that Ja would let be favored in a 5 out is silly. He would have a tremendous amount of space to work. Translated to the Knicks, they are 1 player away from having personnel that favors a 5 out (hint: it’s Herb Jones. JJJ works also). But this personnel favors a modern offense coach. That doesn’t have to mean Jenkins. But I wouldn’t hold much of the Memphis exit against him.

Jenkins is not a five out coach. If that’s what you want then you want the guy Memphis fired Jenkins for. Tuomas Iisalo.

If you filter and do a search on Jenkins on Reddit or RealGM you see a lot of Grizzlies fans complaining about him LOL but I guess that's every team.

Naturally. It's part of the league.
Fans hate league commissioners and more times than not a new coach is what the team needs. But who really can say change proposed is actually improvement besides hindsight?

Ok, PhilC seems so equipped.

Crazy that despite Kidd signing an extension last summer the media keeps posting "Door not closed on Kidd to Knicks". I'll be honest, I don't love Jason Kidd. But I have to be true that after 10 years of assistant and Head coaching gigs I have be open to his acumen and growth which despite a healthy career and I assume good wealth he is devoted to the craft. If he is to coach I'll embrace him and root for his success. Don't have to like some players or coaches if they perform well. IM not talking about criminals mind you.

Good take by Begs.. about covers it all! His prediction leans to an experienced coach given the teams stated goals.
Panos @ 6/19/2025 11:25 AM
Which coach out there would be able to lead Brunson to his highest level. I think if someone were able to guide Brunson toward using all the weapons on the floor, that could unlock like three more levels to this team.
Nalod @ 6/19/2025 12:00 PM
Be so great to see how coaches with just a few day to prepare can break down Knicks with the perspective of preparing them as they were last season and what they would do differently. What is the great unknown is can that vision be executed and to what degree.

We did see ball movement at times in the regular season. not so in the playoffs. Understandable.
We did see KAT pass into the lanes from the high post as a face up very effective.
We also saw Knicks not getting back transition defense and it's not logical to ask KAT to do that.
It's easy to plug in to obvious deficits but it creates others when done.

FO has moved on from Thibs not for punitive reasons but to move it forward with what assume is likely the same core roster going forward.

The one thing about Leon is that he seems to put a lot of value i information and building relationships, and he is doing it out in the open. Wild to see in motion

Not a shock - now lets see if Snyder and Finch get theirs. I think the Knicks asked about the Coaches they did because they had enough intel that those coaches wanted leverage to get paid and had at least a willingness to walk if their teams played ball. Doesn't mean the Knicks thought they would move, but if there's a 5% chance you can pry one of these guys free for an interview it probably was worth the shot. That 2 of them have extensions already show you where their heads were at.

And getting these coaches paid builds up good karma around the league. I really respect Leon for being able to get both players and coaches big deals- sometimes with the Knicks, sometimes by other teams.
