I think the Knicks asked about the Coaches they did because they had enough intel that those coaches wanted leverage to get paid and had at least a willingness to walk if their teams played ball. Doesn't mean the Knicks thought they would move, but if there's a 5% chance you can pry one of these guys free for an interview it probably was worth the shot. That 2 of them have extensions already show you where their heads were at.
And getting these coaches paid builds up good karma around the league. I really respect Leon for being able to get both players and coaches big deals- sometimes with the Knicks, sometimes by other teams.
Saw a blip that Nico Harrison intends to speak with the media the night of the draft.
Not that surprising given Flag and having the #1 pick but thought it was odd it was even mentioned or reported.
Back of my mind - maybe hoping Nico comes out to welcome Cooper and than informs everyone we are going to allow J-Kidd to speak with the Knicks.
I’m actually ok with the already hired coaches getting their extensions and the Knicks doing their diligence. I’m still not feeling the “Kidd to the Knicks” thing so I’m ok with him staying with the Mavs.
I’m curious who are the other available candidates after Jenkins and Brown.
I honestly think the extensions are part of the plan. Leon is essentially pressuring these teams to give these guys extensions or they are gonna request to interview with the Knicks. Now if Kidd doesn’t get an extension he will likely push for Knicks job. Basically pick 5-6 coaches and request to interview knowing you would get denied by all and these coaches agents are gonna push for extensions. Those who don’t get the extensions are gonna feel slighted. Knicks basically putting these coaches into restricted free agency.

That’s why they want Kidd but he’s not available unless we send the 2026 1st. Mike Malone please.

Never going to happen. It’s going to be a rah rah speech to excite the fan base and sell season tickets if anything

God, I had completely forgotten about that. All the more wild in that JR Smith was really just the kind of player you find room for to keep someone else happy.
Now that Sean Sweeney left Dallas for San Antonio, I have zero interest in Kidd. He was their bright mind, in my opinion.

Maybe Kidd can bring in Sydney Sweeney instead.
Tatum is down, Halliburton is down… if it too late to bring Thibs back and just run it back?
Now that OKC is out, I wouldnt be surprised if one of the assistants from OKC is high on our list. They are at the forefront of progressive NBA thinking right now
Borrego is back being mentioned by some talking heads.
His pedigree is from the Pop Tree (who himself was a Larry Brown protege) and while his solo resume with Charlotte remains unimpressive that shit show could be a badge of honor. He was with SAS in the winning years.
One can find something to not like but just posting as a mention.

I actually like Borrego and I am impressed by the fact that he got them to win some games in spite of their overall organizational incompetence.

According to some reports, we looked into him, so that’s another reassuring aspect of this coach search. I really think they are doing this coaching search the right way.
This one of Rosa's dudes he fond of?
He work with Kat?
They did it Thibs way, now it's wide open and no other teams in the market for a coach. Our draft pick is minimal thus we don't need a coach to be in on it. Trades? I assume Leon and company know what they need and how to evolve the team based on current talent. This is about unlocking more from chemistry that was missing. Our talent took us farther than before but we all saw there was things missing.

I linked an article on Nori back early after Thibs was fired. He has been considered one of the top assistants in the league the last couple of years. He has also coached with Malone and Dwayne Casey
