Brown does have a manner of speaking that feels kind of forced, fake to me -- a bit like a Russell Wilson -- like he's trying to tell you what he thinks you want to hear.

I would like to see us develop Kolek, Hokpurti, and Dadiet. Perhaps they can support a playoff run. Especially since we no longer have the same draft capital we once had.

Regardless, playing the starters heavy minutes did not justify letting him go. He is one of the leagues top coaches. Our player’s play defense and play hard. Otherwise, they don’t get any burn. This is a non-negotiable expectation which helped us get further each year. Very few coaches command this level of respect.
Especially in today’s player empowered NBA.

Playoffs are everything. We beat Cleveland, Philadelphia, Detroit, and Boston in the playoffs.
Each of those teams has a bonafide star player.
Those were quality (not easy series) wins.

Which high level opponents have Brown led teams dispatched?

Thibs shortcomings did not justify his exile and should have been addressed internally. He grew as a coach over his 5 year tenure

In hindsight Mike Brown made the most sense all along. He's a vet, comes from the school of prime Popovich like countless great coaches, coached mega stars and mega markets, actually has a better HC resume than Thibs, and was top assistant for the best team we've seen since MJ's Bulls in the Warriors, and best of all has successfully coached completely different styles which is the rare hallmark of a really good coach. Can't think of too many coaches who coached like Brown did with the Cavs and then coached like he did with SAC. Seems to be exactly the right guy for the job IMO but time will tell.

Going into next season with the bench additions and nothing else ... do you feel the Knicks have a better chance to win 60+ games and/or be a first tier contender with Mike Brown or Thibs?

He spoke extremely slowly. Obama cadence. I thought it was fine, nothing major was said.

Biggest thing aside from collobaration, trust and platitudes is he said "You guys know I like to play fast." We were sooooo slow, especially as the year progressed. For a team that did well in transition, we rarely created opportunities. We all know the offense needs to be "opened up." Upping the pace lets you beat teams with ball movement etc. Could be more turnovers, but you take the good with the bad. This team has a lot of firepower so I think its worth a shot.

this is honestly my concern. We have a Cavs like season, win 60, offense looks great but defense takes a hit and we are not winning the post season outscoring everyone. You have to defend. Nobody played any defense in Sac and while Brown's CLE teams were always a 1 or 2 seed, 3 of his 5 years there they were bounced in the Semis and had 1 finals appearance.

But Brown first built his reputation as a defensive-minded coach. If we adapt the defense to modern basketball we have already improved our D. I know many of our main pieces aren’t the best defensive, but I honestly think that one of our biggest downfalls last season on was our defensive strategy. Obviously, a healthy season of Mitch can also play a huge role.

Mike Brown is a super bright man who is not that different than Thibs but thats a good thing. Good pedigree as a young upcoming assistant and he is a proven winner. Not perfect. No coach is. It's all about roster and the context of how they did and what teams did they run into that were better. Lebron had teams that over achieved on paper. Brown has a nice winning % in his career as did Thibs. They are different enough that I suspect Leon knows what he can provide that was missing from Thibs FOR THIS ROSTER!!!! Not playing the blame game here. Leon change the team under Thibs. He did not build it around the Thibian way of coaching. Tom did a great job until this year. All the reasons why? We been thru it and some we have not clue to.

Brown is here and accountable on the clock now. He don't win we can always look to hindsight and guess. Maybe Cavs are just better and advance. Maybe Orlando get it together with its changes and good health. MDA did a great job in PHX but ran into Phil and the Lakers and Pop with the spurs. Shit happens.

I hate when anyone does "Storied franchise". There are bright spots no doubt but a lot of heart ache and missed opportunities over its long history. He has a great opportunity! I hope h can seal the deal!

Thibs 100 out of 100 times. The team made a good decision improving the bench. I hope Clarkson and the Philly kid pan out.

I would really like to see us develop Kolek, Hukporti, and Dadiet. See what they got.
Kolek can play. Steve Nash lite.
The way he maintains his dribble, passes, and shoots.
He tries really hard on defense, like Toppin did.
Hokpurti has skills. And Dadiet can definitely shoot.

60 wins is nice. Haliburton, Tatum, and Lilard are likely out. What Thibs brings is his ability to get teams to rise to the occasion.

Indy is a really good team. They are the only team I can’t stand dating back to the Miller Spike Lee 90s rivalries. We messed up bad in game 1 and it was tough to come back from that.

Brown may be able to chalk up regular season victories.
I have no faith that he can lead us to meaningful playoff series victories. I don’t recall any substantial playoff series wins during his tenure as head coach. Orlando, Detroit, and Atlanta will likely improve and be a difficult match up for us.

The team needs a strong, stable, disciplined coach who they respect. Who wants to be here because he LOVES the Knicks. Not just the business, money side. A coach who can maximize their level of toughness, and ability to play defense, get key stops in the postseason.

They don’t need a pal.

I was always a Thibs guy until last year maybe mid way thru and I could see the cracks in the foundation and I think they were right to fire him now.

While I'm a bit lukewarm on Brown's communication style I view our chances to win the title higher with Brown vs Thibs.

I believe Brown will do 95% of what Thibs did BUT he will also add more tempo, more diversity and more use of the roster (at least thru the reg. season).

Wally Z played under Brown and said he was excellent coach and said he hangs his hat on defense #1 and I think he's evolving offensively.

Wonder if Brown might have some wondering eyes for some of his former players who may or may not be gettable.

Thinking guys like Fox, Sabonis, Monk - maybe a Keegan Murray.

I'm glad Thibs was fired. He did earn another season by virtue of getting to the ECF though. Thibs brought a consistency to the Knicks that we havent seen in many years. But the issues with his coaching philosophy that EVERYONE in the NBA has pointed out. From execs, players, former players, media, fans. Werent going away. This wasnt the invention of some posters on an old Knicks message board.

I really like fact that Brown builds his system to suit the roster. You could say the same thing about Thibs since he had a big say in who the Knicks pursued. Maybe less control over the roster would have forced Thibs to work harder to adapt to today's NBA.

When Thibs didnt have a say, you get what happened to Obi. Relegated to an afterthought in the offense, when he had more to contribute.

Thibs didnt criticize his players because he had such a tight rotation. Few players mean they play a larger role in the success of the team. It would mean maybe playing his bench more. Which Thibs doesnt want to really do.

Brown is going to put his cards on the table so to speak. He showed in Sacramento that he knew Xs and Os, if there was any doubt. Kings surprised a lot of teams.

Im looking forward to seeing our draft picks getting a fair chance to improve. They arent going to learn without making mistakes. Pulling them the second they make one didnt work out for Obi and Grimes. Truth be told I thought we were getting DDV long term, and was happy to move on from Grimes as a Knick.
It will good to see the HC develop his bench. No more bottom of the league in minutes.

Why some media saying we "Wiffed" or "missed out" on Berrego? He is the associate head coach of pelicans and Might be next in line if Willie Green falters. unless we hired him as head coach they are under no obligation to let him go and he is under contract.
