This is the avenue to net Giannis while reducing the cost of asset capital & avoiding having to give up the wings.
He's definitely a negative asset, and one that might help MIL win a few more games which they wouldn't want.
Thing is, to match contracts you'd have to add one of our other big salary wings.
joec32033 put out the play to make without the wings. Mitch($13mil, Yabusele($5.5mil), Dadiet($2.8mil), Kolek($2.2mil), Clarkson($2.3mil)
not sure that works. Even if salaries match that means we are trading 5 for 2 and would need to fill 3 roster spots. Not sure we'd have room with the 2nd apron to legally do that.

He is redundant with Deuce but also an incredible upgrade over Kolek, worlds better although I havent watched him a ton.
You could pair Deuce and Alvarado. Or start Deuce in a pinch. If Brunson misses time, the drop off and replacement is much easier.
I don't know what it would take to get Alvarado but NOP also in a position to lose him for nothing if they don't trade him.
a luxury but we are honestly good with Clarkson, Kolek and Deuce. I'd rather go after a wing like Saddiq Bey from them.

Believe vet min players allow you to do so, but i'm not an expert. Or how about signing Dink & Diawara to the roster?

I have a different take. Clarkson, Kolek, and Deuce have been OK. Knicks have also not really been tested at the playoff level regarding their secondary PG play.
I think Alvarado would be a clear upgrade and put Deuce and Clarkson in better positions to just focus on their strengths, which include more scoring instead of facilitating.
Looking at Dinks boxscores shows a very high volume shot rate with not great % to get those numbers. Not gonna over think the Dink.
Alvarado misses a lot of games. At 27 and Nola in the tank they likley will let him walk. I do think he'd be an asset here but maybe Nola lets released him before the end of season so he can catch on somewhere where he'd get playing time if the start playing yoots to develop.
at the same time Kolek is progressing.
Knicks are doing well!

Deuce has played exactly 4 more games than Alvarado, they are both in their 5th year.
I don't get why NOP would keep a guy just so that they can release him instead of trading him for assets cause other teams would pay?
Last two years not a big difference so your right on that point. Jose is two years older and perhaps his listed 6 foot height is generous.
Why would they release him vs trade? I suppose he is worth a 2nd round pick to some teams even if its a rental situation. As a stand alone trade maybe not so, and if you have. reputation of helping players and careers one can do well in free agent market by demonstrating good will over time. There are scenarios where a season slips by and if not traded, released if they are not planning on resigning them.
Mitch's trade value is a mystery given. his injury history and can't hit a foul shot. This is costing him big money potentially.
Myles Turner? Maybe on a good team as he was on Indy he shows better and I'd gather he'd be ok with us.
The downside of trading KAT
KAT showed up big on the stage.
Im sticking with my theme since summer and rolling with KAT.
He looks to be tighting up his game on defense and doing better not getting offensive rebounds. Yesterday was a good example of him using his body mass more effectively. Seems to not be whining when he dislikes a call or non call as much. We are beating up teams pretty good these days and looking forward to more tests vs. top teams.
Im not saying i'd hate a trade for giannis, but its the price and deficit it would create that concerns me and Im not on the Anti Kat train.
KAT was a monster last playoffs. If we take more advantage of his passing ( already doing more of it comparing to last year it seems)and if he tightens up his fouls and ref chat= that's going to " unlock KAT" and I do think that an " unlocked" KAT a clear, definite and realistic goal that should allow us to get to the Finals, at least

If Kat could just stop with silly plays/fouls, guard some and take good shots -- HE'S AWESOME.
Thought last night may have been his best (clean) game as a Knick and for large parts we ignored him offensively.
It's kind of amazing how a big slow guy with size 19 feet can face up and get by guys over and over again (often times without a shot fake).

I can't tell if KAT has been playing better on the defensive end of the court but the stats play that out.
And as long as the Knicks are a NET positive with their extraordinary offense, I guess we can live with his foibles.

He definitely played smarter/better defense last night.

That’s the worst trade for the knicks absolutely no to miles turner and that awful contract.
Also I’m still not convinced you trade KAT for The Freak . Other than just a strait up trade … I wouldn’t give away future assets like Kolek especially for his brothers who aren’t even real nba talent .
We loose a lot of spacing if we move on from arguably the best center in the nba . Moving him for such a flawed star in the freak is a hard no for me especially if we have to give up more then just towns who at this point in his career is a better overall talent who spaces the floor for our other stars .
The reality is once we trading 5 picks for Bridges, we were out of the Gannis sweepstakes. A trade of Towns and 3-4 1st round picks is solid for Gannis, but without those picks, we would have to gut the team to make an offer the Bucks would actually consider. Team would be better off looking for a backup 6-9 PF who can actually play defense and hit the 3 (what we expected to get from Yabusele).
The world changed. I been reading few teams are willing to do the massive pick thing anymore.
It burns down the road.
The Knicks only owe three 1st round picks going forward for the trade.
It was deemed on of those picks was for taking Bog's contract.
Knicks receive:
Mikal Bridges
Keita Bates-Diop
2026 2nd-round pick
Draft rights to Juan Pablo Vaulet
Nets receive:
Bojan Bogdanovic
Mamadi Diakite
Shake Milton
unprotected 1st-round pick in 2025
unprotected 1st-round pick in 2027
unprotected 1st-round pick in 2029
unprotected 1st-round pick in 2031
unprotected pick swap in 2028
top-four protected 2025 1st-round pick via Bucks
2nd round pick in 2025
For what it was worth we already had a great season last year.
MIkal is playing great. Was it worth it? time will tell.
Also, at some point knicks will unwind this team and perhaps get some of that back from other teams. If and when? Who knows. How much? Depends.
We only owe 3 of those picks going forward. The 2025's are behind us. The swaps? who knows.
Did Leon over pay? Will he still be here in a few years?
Bottom line is Dallas and Bucks won't get a haul of picks for AD OR Giannis. CBA with the apron tough to over come. Teams are looking at the Clippers and are scared now.
The way KAT is playing the last few games does raise his value but also the question of his ceiling.
Mikal playing this season kind of erases the doubts from last.

Unlocking KAT is him developing a consistent post game and punishing teams when they decide to put smaller players on him. Stop allowing smaller players to push him all the way out to the three point line then trying to drive on them like he's a G. Instead establishing deep post position using his size. Combine that with the potential shooters that can be lined up around him...
This would make him pretty much ungradable given his ability to shoot from distance.
Adding a Dirk one legged fade would also be amazing. This also isn't even touching on the untapped potential as a PNP monster with Brunson given his capabilities shooting. Needs to work on setting better picks though.
That said we have seen flashes of him attempting to do just that. In terms of working more on the inside vs smaller guys.
Giannis' camp is pushing. He doesnt want to waste a year, but its best for the Bucks, Knicks and whomever else to do this in the offseason.
I don't think the Knicks cave here....I think they wait it out - if this team fails in the postseason, then they pull out all stops if its still a possibility.
If it happens this season, than it's a matter of whether Miami wants to get aggressive. They would need to part with Ware. Wiggins and/or Herro have to be a part of the package for the salaries. Probably both and they could throw in Rozier too. Something like Giannis, Kuzma, Portis for Ware, Herro, Wiggins and Rozier works in the cap and will clear cap quicker for Milwaukee while giving them a couple of decent pieces to build on.
Question - do you fear a Miami team with Davion/Powell/Jaquez/Giannis/Bam? Bench of Kuzma, Portis, Smith, Fontecchio, Larsson. That's pretty good
KAT has played better, but I don't think you can pass up a trade for Giannis. I think we are trying to do it pretty much straight up KAT + WSH pick...etc. Ultimately if you have to swap OG for say, Turner and Portis, do you still do it? IDK, that gets tough for me.
