the Yanks should match the Nationals' offer cuz right now it looks like that's the most he's getting from any team... BOS is banking on luring him to their team for less to play for a winning franchise... even if the Yankees have no intentions of signing Tex, they need to get involved here if for nothing else but to up the cost for BOS to sign him... if they get "stuck" w/a guy like Mark Tex it wouldn't be the end of the world, he's only the best positional player available in free agency this year & we do need an upgrade at 1B.

I'd rather save money by getting Sheets and Pettitte (rather than Lowe or AJ) and then add Tex.

Sheets & Andy will cost u $22 mil combined next year at the very least if not more... that's more than Lowe, AJB or Tex... i see us only grabbing 1 more bigname FA & then Andy P if anything, but not 2.

Really? I've been hearing rumors that the Yankees have made offers to both AJ and Lowe already in addition to the standing offer to Andy. I think they're going all out this off-season but only time will tell.
TMS @ 12/11/2008 9:27 PM
they're trying to get Andy to accept a $9 mil dollar offer but he wants more... combine that w/the $26 mil over 2 years they're trying to sign Sheets with & that amounts to $22 mil for next season between the 2 of them (if they accept those offers that is, it'll probably be a couple mil more give or take)

Lowe wants $15 mil per over 4 years & AJB is looking for Zambrano type dollars over 5 years, which means ~$18 mil per for him... no offer has been extended to Lowe just yet, only to AJB... if AJB declines the offer they'll either up the ante or go after Lowe is my guess... they're also looking at Sheets as an alternative & Andy is their backup plan if all else fails... i think they'll sign Andy regardless of who they sign next tho.

IMO i would rather have the Yankees sign Mark Tex at $20 mil per over 8 & bring in Sheets & Andy P at $22 mil more... that will be $44 mil in total added salary for next season which is about what we have left to spend this offseason w/all the other money coming off the books.
Bonn1997 @ 12/11/2008 9:34 PM
Yeah, we're actually on the same page. For the long-term I think that's the best investment but it doesn't appear that that is the direction they're heading in.
TMS @ 12/11/2008 9:38 PM
Angels look like they're gonna sign Ibanez & have pretty much bowed out of the Mark Tex talks... i think he's headed to BOS for less... come on YANKS! GET IN ON THAT NOW!!!

Wow, where did you see that? That would be a shocking turn of events. If Boston has a clear path to Texeira, the Yankees desperately need to get in on it, if for no other reason than to drive the price up substantially.

been watching ESPN nonstop all day long... they're reporting that Angels are in talks w/Ibanez in case Tex signs w/another team... right now the Nats are the highest bidder at 8 years $160 mil but they just reported that the Angels & BAL are pitching offers in the $150 mil range, but nothing is confirmed... Boston is also heavy after Mark Tex but i don't think they're gonna top the Nats' offer either... if the Yankees don't at least match the Nats' offer i think it's a big mistake.

If they let Boston get him on a lowball offer, I'll be pissed.

Boras is his agent so my hope is he'll go where the money is regardless if it means going to a team like the Nats (that is if the Yankees don't get in on it)... still u can be sure he's gonna be demanding a trade outta there w/in a couple years if the team still stinks.

Before teams open their mouths, they should open their books and show where all that money that they get from teams like the Yankees, are going.

When they get more from revenue sharing than they spend on payroll, they should shut the fuck up.

seriously the man has some serious nerve to be chirping about how the Yankees spend their money when his franchise has been collecting luxury tax payments from the Yankees to help pay his damn salary.

The only reason these disingenuous pricks open their mouths is to deflect negative attention on themselves and their cheapskate and/or poorly run franchises.

it's only when the Yankees spend tho, it's such BS... u never hear a peep when the Cubs spend $160 mil to sign Soriano & Zambrano to multiyear deals... u never hear anyone getting crazy when the Mets are spending $150 mil on Beltran & another $140 mil on Johan, or when the Red Sox are handing out $100 mil contracts to Manny or looking to offer Mark Tex $150 mil... but because the Yankees have the biggest payroll they're not allowed to spend any money at all w/o getting flack over it by bitter Yankee haters... everytime i see Karl Ravech make note of how the Yankees spend w/his little snide side remarks it makes me wanna throw a shoe through my tv.

The Cameron-Melky trade isn't done yet and Im glad for that. I know it will probably get done tomorrow but I don't like that deal. There surely have to be other possibilities out there.

Jake Peavy and his agent are frustrated with the Padres inability to trade him, maybe the Yankees can get into the mix and steal him away. Especially when all the Padres want is financial relief due to the owners impending divorce.

Not sure what Peavy expected when he's made it known that he'll use his no trade if he's not happy with his trade destination and says he wants to stay in the NL. He's limited the Padres trade partners to only a few but he's frustrated. I think there might be an opportunity for the Yankees there. He's very cost effective this year at $9M and then his salary only escalates to 15M, 16M, and 17M for the next 3 years and then a $22M club option in 2013. Trade for him instead of spending $80 million on AJB and you'll have money to sign Texeira as well.

I'd happily give up Hughes for Peavy, especially if it means we can legitimately go after Texeira.
TMS @ 12/12/2008 1:00 AM
hell yes, i'd give up Hughes for Peavy... they can have any one of our other top prospects too along w/Hughes for that guy... there isn't anyone on this team or in the minors i wouldn't trade for Peavy except for maybe Joba.
djsunyc @ 12/12/2008 10:01 AM
ibanez signs with the phillies...still keeps the angels in the tex mix.
