last 2 games were frustrating but so it goes w/ the redsox this year.
hopefully we take the next 2 against tampa and then sweep baltimore.
the offense the past 2 days have been anemic and that puts so much pressure on our young pitchers to be perfect...
My kingdom for a Tino Martinez, Scott Brosius, Bernie Williams or Paul O'neil.

Yankees have the 28th worst bullpen (ERA-wise) out of 30 teams. They can't continue at this rate if they want to even make the playoffs.

injuries + some poor starts by our starting pitchers have killed the bullpen. this resulted in bringing up some kids that aren't ready yet. 1 domino falling could make alot of things topple.
with that said, i still think we have a really good pen. but obviously, there are more factors involved than just skill.

I just don't see it. I don't think the 'pen will stay *this* bad, but Mariano is the *only* pitcher in the 'pen with a track record of success. (Maybe Marte too but he's been a disaster and I can't bring myself to count him.) That just doesn't bode well for the team no matter how much you like the young kids. I'm not saying there's anything wrong with liking our team's young kids and giving them a chance. We saw last year with Hughes and Kennedy, though, that it's a poor gamble when you're *depending on* young kids with no track record of success.
On the other hand, right now the starting pitching has the 26th worst ERA. However, I can see that improving a lot more than the 'pen even if we don't make any changes. I still expect CC and AJ to return to their career averages (not sure about Wang though!).

as the starting pitching improves, so will the pen.
we have so many guys hurt right now it's not even funny not to mention 2 of the best in the league in wang and arod.
Is Wang really one of the best in the league? I haven't seen that ever since the nightmare playoff series. He's gonna have to prove it again. I do think the 'pen will improve somewhat, but it's still a poor gamble to have no mid relievers or set up men with track records of success.

he was on his way to another 18-19 win season last year at 8-2 over 15 starts & an ERA just over 4... he was never the most dominant pitcher out there but he got the job done... this theory that u have that he was never the same after the playoff game of '07 holds no water.
read this article... they are attributing this year's struggles w/the injury he sustained last year & the subsequent inactivity which caused his hip to be weaker, resulting in not the same amount of drive off the mound to get that sink on his fastball that he needs to be successful... that's also resulted in a loss of velocity & has caused his mechanics to get out of whack.

AJB really needs to shut down this Rays team tonight & get this team started back in the right direction... the injuries, our pitching & our lack of consistent clutch hits is almost a carbon copy of last year's debacle up to this point.

that's why i keep saying our lineup is our weakness. we have 3 guys batting .300...and 1 of them is pena.

our whole team has been underperforming... i don't think u can just pin it on 1 thing... our starters have been consistently inconsistent, our bullpen has not done the job, our hitters aren't hitting... for all the talk that Joe Girardi gives about how he likes the fight in this team, i just don't see it... they showed fight in a couple games so far this year coming back to win late in the game... most other games i've watched they've looked very listless & flat, & it's seldom that we've seen the pitching & the hitting clicking at the same time... when that happens, we'll get on a roll.
We need God to put some life back into George and start instilling fear in the organization again. Everyone seems to be breezing through their jobs, including the current guys in charge - Hal and Hank. Nobody seems to be pissed that this team is a struggling mediocre mess. Something needs to be done. If the old George was around we'd have already seen quotes threatening the managers' job right now. Not that this is constructive to winning but I'd like to see some urgency rather than the same old lackadaisical businessman atmosphere that surrounds the Yankees today.

Yeah, I remember, he had an ERA over (which basically means he was a slightly above average starting pitcher) with lots of run support

Just to be clear: I don't doubt the article that there is an injury problem. The possibility of an injury starting in the middle of last season and my observation of his mediocrity starting in the '07 post-season are not mutually incompatible. There is no logical requirement that one exist without the other.

someone tell Mark Teixieria's it's not April anymore.
the ball & strike calls the past few nights have been horrendous! Jeter rung up on a pitch that was WELL inside a couple nights ago, & now Swisher gets rung up on a pitch that broke outside the plate & gets kicked out... i can understand his frustration but right now we can't afford to have our better hitters being kicked out by the umps... Swisher needs to be smarter than that... the pitch was close enough to at least swing & try to protect the plate... still, these umps have been HORRIBLE! absolutely nothing going our way these days.
SOMEONE WAKE UP THIS DAMN TEAM ALREADY! Too bad George is too old... he'd get the message across... Joe Girardi better stop complementing these guys for playing flat & emotionless & start getting these guys to play up to their abilities! i'm getting sick of his canned responses after every game they lose, like everything is status quo & going according to plan... come on Joe, we're not stupid.
what the hell was Jeter looking at on that pitch? come on, men on 2nd & 3rd & down 3 runs, WTF u trying to work a walk for on a 1-2 pitch? that pitch was easily good enough to try & go the other way with... swing the freakin' BAT!
this team is still asleep... ugh.
