Is that an official roster?
No Kennedy until maybe the ALCS.
I really like Ohlendorf being on the roster. Very surprised that Veras made it over Ramirez and Villone. Veras' stuff is very similar to Vizcaino, it would have been nice to have a changeup guy like Ramirez or a lefty like Villone to give the Indians a different look. Plus no lefty in the bullpen to face Hafner in middle inning situations.
Good idea putting Sardinha there as a pinch runner in late game situations. None of the other bench guys have any speed to speak of.
The more I think about it, it's a mistake not to put Ramirez on the roster.
The Indians are a free swinging team that strikes out a lot and they are young with no playoff experience which could make them even more vulnerable to a good changeup. Veras' best pitch is basically a very hard but straight fastball. That could be playing right into what the Indians hit best.

agree with you on all that... i also think Villone coulda been useful as a lefty reliever in certain matchups... we're now completely righthanded pitching wise... but i guess there's only a certain amount of spots so u gotta sacrifice in certain areas to fill other needs.
we've been talking about finding something wrong with ramirez' mechanics. but he's still giving up meatballs the past month. his changeup is wild and his fastball is at 90mph. he's not ready for the playoffs...
matsui is the dh but is 0-9 vs. cc and just had his knee drained. it's a curious selection unless the lineup released will be changed. not having andy phillips hurts us here as we have a ton of lefties in the lineup...and that's a no-no vs. cc.
these playoff game crowds sound dead on tv - tbs needs to up the crowd microphones.

i thought Joe might go w/Shelley Duncan, but not with Wang pitching... Doug M's gonna see too many grounders... having his glove at 1B saves runs anyway, so i don't mind that at all.
watch how the Captain sets the media hounds straight who constantly wanna try & place the onus & pressure on ARod:

Wang looks horrible!
[Edited by - bonn1997 on 10-04-2007 7:13 PM]
wang was horrible tonight, but I blame posadas's poor at bat just as much. with a chance to either tie or take the lead, ahead in the count 3-0, with bases loade, posada strikes out. WTF? what an unprofessional at bat. Had that been A-rod, the paper would have lit him up... even if we tie the game, it changes the momentum, cc is out and maybe we send a strong message.. what a bad and unprofessional performance by wang, posade and matsui tonight.. really!!
I don't mind giving a guy the green light 3-0. He's never going to see a better pitch. Suppose he hadn't swung, as you preferred. Then it would have been a called strike and nothing would be different anyway! Wang allowed EIGHT earned runs in 4 2/3 innings. You can't equate that to one at bat by one hitter.
all season long, we ALWAYS strand the runner on the 3rd with less than 2 outs. it didn't change tonight.
i'm not upset with this game at all. the runs don't carry over to tomorrow. yanks under torre are 5-0 in the ALDS after losing the first game.
in all fairness to matsui - his knee just got drained.
winner of game 2 dictates the series. hey, this is all gravy - the yanks shouldn't even be here right now.

Really? I didn't get that impression at all during the season. I thought the Yankees got the runner home a higher % of the time than most teams in that scenario. I don't have any complaints about any conceivable aspects of the Yankees' offense actually.
What the hell is Torre doing? Wang obviously didn't have it and he left him in way too long. They were still in the game at 4-3 and even 6-3. Why bring in Ohlendorf then instead of Hughes? Especially since he ended up bringing in Hughes later. Hughes should have been warming up for a few innings with Wang getting in trouble since the first, so not having him ready doesn't make sense.
I wanted Ohlendorf on the roster but not in a situation like that. Personally I would have started Hughes after they cut the lead to 4-3. Sabathia was about to be pulled and they needed to hold them there. That was the game. Wang just didn't have it and shouldn't have been in there.
There's also no way I put Matsui in there when he was 0-9 against Sabathia and just had his knee drained. Matsui was completely overmatched. Duncan should have DHed.
I don't mind losing the game, for the reasons that dj has mentioned, but this is a game the could have stolen, even with Wang being completely off. IMO Torre didn't give them a chance to win.
i don't think he wanted to use hughes today - he was kind of forced to b/c we needed 3 innings out of a reliever without using farns, viz, joba and mo.
Once Wang showed he didn't have it, Torre had no choice but to go to Hughes.
hughes looked good, but putting context to his performance - he had zero pressure on him - and he still gave up a homer. he's a kid, but i don't know how much he would've stopped the bleeding tonight.
He couldn't have done any worse. I just disagree with Torre's thinking there. I don't understand it at all.
not to mention jeter, arod (although he was intentionally walked), posada and matsui didn't show up tonight.
