I hate, hate, hate giving up Montero for someone we could've signed in 6 months but Cliff Lee is as good if not better than Sabathia.

I still don't like giving up a .300 hitting 20 year old. Montero has an all star bat. We're not gonna like watching him elsewhere.

SupremeCommander @ 7/9/2010 12:03 PM
I'd rather trade for him then see a team we play trade for him. He just owns the Yanks

VDes, i agree. Hate giving up prospects for this type of move, but you would hate watching Lee deal against the Yanks in the playoffs like he did last year, right? The Yanks have 2 other good C's in the minors, Romine and Gary Sanchez I think the other guy's name is. Montero has been hyped for a while, but, as Herm Edwards once said, you play to win the game. Make this move, Yanks are odds on favorite for another chip. Sabathia, Lee, Pettitte, Burnett, Hughes...my goodness.

TMS, I heard on ESPN Radio that Yanks are exploring dealing Vasquez to Philly for Jayson Werth and if that didn't work, something similar - dealing him to an NL team for an outfield bat.

I love this deal, Yanks would be unbeatable in the playoffs with this guy in the rotation, and as a precautionary move as well -- if he went to the Twins, Rangers, Rays, or Sox, we would be wishing we had dealt Montero. Ca$h Money strikes again!

Obviously he's a 1a to Sabathia's 1, but who leaves the rotation? Do they go to a 6 man rotation? Does Hughes get put back in the bullpen when he gets closer to his innings limit? Do they trade Vazquez while his trade value is high again? I'd hate to trade Montero because he's going to be a beast at the plate, especially when they could perhaps just sign Lee as a free agent this winter.

this is stupid, we don't need lee whatsoever. this is overkill.

right now in the playoffs our 3 would be CC, Andy, Hughes. If we needed a 4th guy, it'd be Burnett. we don't need lee, he now bumps hughes out of a playoff start, which he's earned. this is horrible, if the yankees win, it's like so what, how could they not?

the best team in baseball shouldnt have to go get cliff lee.. not in a million years.

nyk4ever @ 7/9/2010 2:46 PM
this is coming from an absolute diehard yankee fan who never misses a game and lives and breathes with every season:

there needs to be a soft-cap (atleast) in baseball, this is getting absurd. i know the players will never go for it, so i just say, tell them to sit out and we'll go with replacement players. most current players are tainted since they played in the steroid era anyways so I'm not sure how many fans would actually care. this is just a disgrace if the yankees get lee.

jusnice @ 7/9/2010 3:06 PM
I have to admit that I don't like it either. My first thought when I heard about it this a.m. was that it was getting absurd. I like the Wyerth for Vazquez move though and if we do that, I'm a little less offended by the Lee aquisition.

i'll say this, i would replace burnett in a heartbeat - never was a big fan of his and i dont htink he brings much to the yanks when they need it most. also, from what isles said, yes, i'd get rid of vasquez now. the guy is not yankee material and cannot be trusted (like burnett) when you need him to pitch well.

if we could do it without losing montero, great, if not, then we can always sign montero down the road.....besides arent the yanks about to get werth also? he'd round out the line-up nicely and make the short porch his bitch!

c'mpm nyk, this is the yanks, not knicks. we are in it to win it every year. w

i love it!!! i love the fact that the yankees would go out and do this, to ensure winning because as an organization that should be their goal and by all means they are doing the right thing from a organizational standpoint. as a fan though, i think the victories kinda lose something.

i know you say you'd replace burnett and vazquez in a heartbeat, but there are taems in this league that would love to have both of them, why do need a #1 starter every spot in the rotation? i dunno, i don't like the way this smells.

i look at it like this - if Philly is in contention this year to play us in the series again, i'd like nothing more than their former player belting HR's while wearing pinstripes. As for Lee, he flat out owns us - and we have the best 1-9 line-up in baseball arguably. why not get him on our side.

yes, we are the yanks, and we are a bit absurd, but....we win championships so it's ok. wiould you rather have those schmucks in beantown or tampa bay getting him and trying to re-establish themselves to take over our #1 spot?

besides, i know you and i know as true as the day is long that your ass will be just as drunk as mine if we win it again! nothing lost in those vistories and the only smell i'll care about is the jack daniels i'll be sniffin' on when we do win again.

i guess my point really is - STFU and go get laid! lol! love ya

Joel Sherman of the New York Post reports that the "Mariners are backing off" the Yankees' offer for Cliff Lee and that it doesn't look like the "Yankees are in it."

Shocking if true, since it seemed like a done deal all afternoon. The Mariners were believed to be receiving Jesus Montero, David Adams and Zach McAllister for Lee. Sherman says the Mariners were concerned about Adams' ankle and that another team has stepped up with a big offer.

Damn, I so pray we don't get Cliff Lee. I'm with NYK. This would be overkill, and I'm more willing to work with AJ Burnett and Vazquez to conquer their demons then do a trade like this.

Overkill is 100% correct.

jusnice @ 7/9/2010 4:20 PM
maybe they were trying to drive up the price for the red sox or rays....
islesfan @ 7/9/2010 6:26 PM
I'm fine with him going to the Rangers. They still can't beat us and Lee didn't go to Boston, Tampa or another team that could hurt us in October.

Lee will be a Yankee next November anyway.

i got no problem stfu'n and gettin laid.. i think im goin sebstar on some chicks tonight

MaTT4281 @ 7/11/2010 12:56 AM
Another great outing for Javy today, but Joba is seriously starting to worry me. I keep waiting for him to get his stuff straightened out, but giving up 4 runs after 7 innings of shut out baseball...ouch.
islesfan @ 7/11/2010 1:16 AM
Joba straight up sucks. He can't throw anything for strikes and his fastball is straight as an arrow. Is there any doubt that by playoff time, Hughes will be the setup guy and Joba will be a mopup guy. No wonder they wanted to make the trade for Lee.
TMS @ 7/11/2010 1:33 AM
bumping Hughes back to an 8th inning role could prove just as important to a title run as having him start 1 game in each series. if u can have him impact 3 or 4 games it puts less pressure on Joba, who has been real shaky this season. if the trade for Lee had been made i would have been fine with it considering the guy is a proven ace in the AL and in the postseason. Hughes has had a very nice season but a CC, Lee and Andy P big 3 is bukkake inducing.
islesfan @ 7/11/2010 1:48 AM
Right now I'd rather have Robertson or Park pitch the 8th. At the trade deadline, they need to find another late inning arm.

i don't trust Robertson or Park either... both of them have been shaky as well this year.
