Robertson scares me. I hope this doesn't get ugly.
Get the gas can out of the game. This is getting out of hand. I don't think you bring Logan in either.
Robertson shouldn't be brought back next year.
The Yankees need to hit. They need to bring Wood out now and pitch Mariano for two innings.
Arod out on a called third strike to end the league championship series.
I'm really not that upset this team didn't make the World Series this year, they played like a gutless bunch in this series other than Cano. Rangers played great, they deserve to go to their first WS. I hope they win it all.
Hey Cashman, unload those brilliant acquisitions you made this year (Javy, Nick Johnson, Lance Berkman) & get me Cliff Lee & Jason Werth this winter.

I agree to some extent but there were some questionable calls on Joe's part that might have changed the outcomemof this game. I think the biggest was walking Hamilton in the fifth. I don't see how you do that when Vlade is coming up. The guy is one of those rare players that bats over .300 for his career. I just don't see how it could have been worse if Hamilton gets a hit. I am not sure if bringing in Robertson was to show him that the team still has confidence in him but the guy was like gasoline with fire. He needs to be moved this offseason.
Some say the MLB playoffs are of the team that gets hot at the right time. While there is some truth to that, its also truth that winning starts with pitching. This year we made it farther than expected from a team which #2 failed them (Burnett)and #3 or #4 stunk (Vazquez). Once in the playoffs, even our solid pitchers (CC and Hughes) didn't help the cause. We need to address that immediately.
We need at least two aces in the rotation. This can be easily done if we sign Cliff Lee to form a powerful 1-2 punch with CC. Ideally, Hughes would be our 4th starter since even though he improved a lot, he needs to turn his off-pitches in plus out pitches. Texas, a good fastball hitting team, exposed him. Burnett, ours for the next three years, should make an excellent 5th starter (paid and expected to be a #2, but his head is just not there). He shouldn't start a game for us in the postseason ever again. Who do you bring if Andy calls it a career? Good question and we have enough trade assets to bring a solid #3 if we need to.
The offense shouldn't have disappeared as it did in the ALCS. I guess it had to do more with health than anything else, but we still need to tweak some things. First, I'd really love it if the organization deemed Montero ready for the big league and he shared catching duties with Posada, who isn't getting any younger and we still have for another year. Cervelli doesn't bring much to the plate other than energy, so a young guy with power and star potential like Montero would be a great addition to a position we need to upgrade. We also need speed and quality hitting on top of the lineup. Gardner brings the first, but isn't a consistent threat on the second. A guy like Crawford may help there.
i would much rather have Jason Werth than Carl Crawford... we need more righty hitting power to back up ARod... our lineup is way too lefty dominated... a guy like Cliff Lee makes quick work of this offense... next year we could be facing a guy like David Price or Jon Lester that will do the same... i think Werth is a much better fit for this lineup.
as for the rotation, if u sign Lee then you're set... hopefully Andy decides to play another season & be the #3 guy.
we would probably do well to look for another setup man for the pen, cuz Joba has fallen off badly this year... too much drinking & partying most likely... Kerry Wood did a solid job in the regular season but in the postseason he didn't instill any confidence in me at all... always seemed just 1 pitch away from imploding at any moment... we really need a dominant guy that can shut down other lineups late in the game cuz Mo is not getting any younger... woulda been nice to have signed Aroldis Chapman when we had the chance, i think that kid's gonna be awesome.
I don't want Werth or Crawford. I like the way our OF is constituted with Gardner, Granderson and Swisher. Our defense is good and I think each brings something unique to the table in the lineup. I don't see Werth as an upgrade to Swish and I don't think Crawford is worth the dough to replace Gardner. What we need to do offensively is bring up Jesus Montero. Montero is going to be an all star power hitter. Right now I'd platoon him at catcher and DH with Posada. He would be a huge bat to add to the lineup. Hopefully Jeter bounces back because we're gonna re-sign him and he's gonna take a spot on the roster.
The focus should be on starting pitching because we've once again seen that shutdown starting pitching is what is winning short playoff series (you still need great hitting to dominate the regular season, butThe SF Giants lineup is awful- and look at them. They nearly missed the playoffs but now you have to favor them to win it all). Adding Cliff Lee would be huge, but we can't rely on being able to get him. Bringing back Andy Pettitte would be huge because even though he's old he's probably coming off his best American league season.
And we really need more depth in the pen. Robertson has proven himself to be too inconsistent and streaky. Wood needs to come back. They need another lefty. A healthy Aceves would be great too. Still need another power arm IMO and maybe a sinker ball thrower who's durable. I'd bring Mo back on an infinite contract, but I really hope he's not gonna consider retiring....
The Yanks are in a bit of a weird spot. They'll bring Jeter, Pettitte, and Rivera back, though if it were up to me I'd only bring Rivera back. I'd take the draft picks for the other guys. Reshift the focus to the younger guys--I'm okay with refocusing on Gardner, Swisher, Granderson, Cano, Teixeira, Montero. The team didn't make a play for the premium pitching together and the age of the club suggests now is the opportune time to reload, especially because if it is done right the team still plays in October next year
But that will never happen so I'll just shut up

Man, Ian O'Connor says he'd give Jeter a 4 year, $92 mil deal. For a 36 year old shortstop with .710 OPS!? He wouldn't get more than a 3 year, $12 to 24 mil deal anywhere else. There's so much more that you can buy for $92 mil. Jeter should just accept a huge paycut because he had a shitty season.

Objectively Jeter's probably worth 6-7 a year at this point. I'd pony up about 10 mil a year to keep him. I don't know how anyone can suggest 23 mil a year with a straight face. I think you have to play some hardball with Jeter because he's not going elsewhere. He's already been rewarded with his last contract for many years of stellar play...this is about a future contract and while some degree of loyalty is expected I think he has to be realistic about what he can expect after such a poor season.
As for Pettitte, why wouldn't you bring him back at this point? Unless your converting Joba back there's no internal option thats ready out of the gate, and for next year there's not many better open market options. He pitched tremendously this year and looks like he can still give you another good year or two if he wants.
I agree with what you're both saying. The problem is the Yankees will profit handsomely by keeping Jeter in the fold. Due namely to his marketing appeal.
If it were me I'd offer him 3 years and "$45 million." His agent gets to report those terms. The Yankees include language that next year is his last year at SS. The money is really deferred money, where the team pays him a fee for throwing out the opening day pitch in Year 4, the opening pitch for game 162 in Year 5, etc.

That would be way higher than any other team would pay him but still reasonable. It'll be interesting to see how this unfolds.

Yeah, you definitely look to bring Andy back.

definitely will be interesting... but it really isn't way higher. If you pay him a few million for opening day related appearances and other marketing ops after his playing career is over, his agents can still spin it that he made $15 mil per. In reality he is really getting $8-12 mil a season

our offense was totally anemic in the ALCS... we got shut down by a tough lefty starter & never recovered... Werth brings you a proven big game bat in the lineup... i wouldn't rely on some unproven rookie like Montero to be the lone offensive addition to this team next year... Montero will get his looks, i think that goes w/o saying, but he is at best a plan B or C option at this point... we need a better contingency plan in place if we expect to win another championship next season... you can play Werth in RF at YS & DH him in some games as well, maybe move Swish over to LF in some games when facing tough lefty pitching... i think Werth is a perfect fit for this lineup.
the focus absolutely should be on the starting rotation, i think that's definitely paramount... Yankees need to sign Cliff Lee at all costs... a proven postseason dominant ace like that can make or break any short series... you have that guy & CC anchoring our rotation for the next several years & it will equal multiple championships when you mix in this potent lineup & Mo.
bullpen help is also needed but the return of Aceves should relieve some of the middle relief weakness we had this year... & we need to add another lefty situational guy.
