for Nady & Marte i woulda offered at most a package of Alberto Gonzalez, Justin Christian, Ohlendorff & a minor leaguer like Steven White or Jeff Marquez.
character issues or not, Tabata's got superstar potential & he's still a little kid... how many mature 19 yo's do you know? even if he has no future on this team he still has more value than a journeyman veteran OFer & a situational lefty reliever, let's be honest... we sold low on Tabata like V said & i'm not all that thrilled about it to be honest.

And you would have gotten laughed off.

That's the problem though dude, Cashman and everyone else didn't consider Tabata a top prospect anymore.
apparently the Pirates thought highly of him... i kept telling u for the past few weeks that they were asking for a lot in any trades & apparently they got it.

Yeah but at the rate Tabata's going his value could've been nil at some point. He has really been in the shitter for 14 months now.
The other thing about the so-called journeyman Nady is that he might be a bit of a late bloomer because he had Tommy John surgery early in his career. He hasn't gotten full season at-bats untill three years and he's been showing steady improvement. He is really hitting this year and like I said before his improvement vs. righties has been an important development.
what is he if not a journeyman bro? in 7 years at the ML level he's played on 3 different teams & aside from this year he's only come close to hitting .300 once... he's got a career .281 BA & .793 OPS... those are not eye popping stats... if this year is the norm for him than we got a steal... if he comes back to earth & he goes back to hitting in the .270's every year & this trade doesn't net us a WS appearance, then it's a total waste IMHO.
Yes but he's hitting .330 this year and was brought in to help this year when we needed his bat the most. And I've pointed out 2-3 things that suggest he could be a late bloomer who's improving.
Not saying he's Paul O'Neill but once upon a time Paul O'Neill was a 29 yr .790 OPS guy with bad splits and then he became a studly hitter for the Yanks. Nady had set a pac-10 record for SLG, but struggled early on in his career cause he had Tommy John. Now he's coming on.
Tabata young and has always been young for his league, but his hitting has gotten worse every year (to downright horrific this year). He's never slugged more than .420 either and is not the biggest dude in the world...
bro, if he becomes Paul O'Neill i will be back here proclaiming this trade to be the steal of the century, believe me.
Anyone think Arod is going to get plunked right here?
btw, don't look now but Joba's shutting down the Red Sox & Beckett's outta the game... Puke-a-lips almost got another one up in his temple by Joba... ROFL! he must be a huge a-hole for Joba to hate him so much.

if that happens i wanna see Farns put in & for Ortiz to get one right on his bad wrist... then u'll really see the fireworks.

I'm with TMS on this one. You can't just ignore Nady's career stats. I'm not against the trade but I wouldn't call it a steal. I think we can agree now that this never really was a transition year after all.

LOL.
Honestly, I don't mind this. All these years the Yankees have been beaned time and time again by the Sox and have had NO retaliation. It's about time someone has balls like Joba does and throws at these fuckers... especially Youkilis, I can't stand that guy.

You can call it whatever you want but when you're only 3 games out of first and the Wild Card on July 25th, you make this trade.
Nady's a FA after this season, Marte's got a $6 mil team option for next season... don't count on Nady to be here after this season unless they plan on letting Abreu or Matsui walk as free agents.
if Matsui is allowed to walk & join Torre in LA it would be a damn shame if u ask me... aside from injury he's been a guaranteed 100 RBI player & 1 of our most consistently productive hitters ever since he got here as well as being a quintessential pro.
Is Matsui free? I thought he signed a huge extension a couple years ago.
If Nady continues hitting .300+ this year he'll probably be a type A FA, in which case they could get a bunch of first rounders this offseason if they let people walk.
Big spot for Krazy Kyle right now. He's been pitching well this year but I don't trust him one iota...
lol Krazy Kyle.. I'm with you Des.. I don't trust him at atll, even with the good season he's had.
Jason Bay is the guy we shoulda went after... he's a better hitter historically than Nady & is signed to a contract for next season at relatively reasonable dollars... u coulda easily let Abreu walk w/confidence if u had him on the roster.

my bad, Matsui's signed for next season at $13 mil... good point about the draft picks... that makes me feel a little better about the trade but still not jumping for joy anytime soon... we'll see what happens i guess.
so i guess it comes down to Bobby Abreu either to continue stepping it up in the second half or else he'll be replaced by Nady in RF next season.
