this is purely an emotional statement but i get the feeling that as long as arod is the marquee guy here, we will underperform...
This is purely a rational statement but I get the feeling that if A-Rod bats less than 1.000, some fans will be unhappy with him.

but again, arod with a massive chokejob in the 9th trying to hit a homer. that was terrible. as well as cano's strikeout...just poor approaches at the plate. our poor hitting with RISP is a prime indicator on why we can't get out of the first round anymore...and possibly why we might not make the playoffs this year.
Did you see the clutch HRs they showed of A-Rod during that at-bat? Do you expect him to get a hit every time in that situaton?

with a tough stretch of games up, he wanted to give arod a little rest - and arod said it was a good idea too.
Well it's not worth losing a game when the race is this close just to avoid playing A-Rod in the field for one inning or two. If we miss the playoffs by one game, do you think anyone will be happy to know that at least A-Rod got his full 9 innings of rest on July 29th?
Abreu's been swinging very well lately. I really hope he keeps this up.

he's batting .250 with a .472 slugging % with RISP this season.
yanks just traded farns for pudge:
The Yankees seem to have found a replacement for Jorge Posada.
The Yankees have acquaired catcher Ivan Rodriguez from the Tigers. Detroit will get right-handed pitcher Kyle Farnsworth, who played with the Tigers previously in 2005.
Posada, the five-time All-Star catcher, announced he would have season-ending surgery on his right shoulder on Monday.
Posada has struggled with shoulder pain most of the season, weakening his throws and limiting his playing time behind the plate.
On the disabled list for the second time this year, Posada was trying to rehabilitate his shoulder enough to come back as a DH or first baseman this season. But after the Yankees acquired outfielder Xavier Nady in a trade with Pittsburgh on Saturday, they determined it was best for Posada to have surgery now, general manager Brian Cashman said Monday.
That is awesome. Pudge is over the hill, but he's a great stop gap. I would've traded Farns for a bag of beans- no matter how well he's doing this year. Can't trust him in any high leverage situation and gets paid too much anyway

just saw the news on the ESPN ticker... Farns was pitching well but he's always had issues being clutch in big situations... we're getting a fulltime C on the downside of his career but we can easily replace Farns w/Veras, Edwar & Marte to bridge the gap to Mo... plus we got Melancon waiting in the wings to come up & be the setup guy at some point.
i like the move.

Pudge not hitting too badly for a catcher this year. .290 average, .750 OPS. Excellent solution. Now if we can get another vet starter somehow...

DJ's got a legitimate point about ARod but he is not the only one who hasn't come through in clutch situations this season... how many DP's has Jeter grounded out into this season to kill rallies before they even begin? we're gonna make or not make the playoffs as a team... that means clutch hitting, steady pitching, good defense & strong work from the bullpen... Yankee fans need to stop singling out ARod for the fate of the entire season... for 1 player to carry the load on a team is unfair to expect in baseball w/all the nuances & different factors that determine a W.

the greinke stuff was a rumor talked about on sirus satellite radio. not sure if it has any legs.
last two games were dissapointing. sexson should've batted for betemit there but i guess girardi was more concerned about pulling arod from the dh position (which was a mistake on girardi's part). and nady should've started, especially after hitting a homer the night before.
Why did A-Rod HAVE to DH? Was he injured?
ARod not playing the field was not the reason we lost the game... players need rest at some point during the season... Joe G had his bat in the lineup, that's enough for me.
looks like this is all coming together quite nicely... just gotta get ourselves another arm for the rotation & we're set for the stretch run.

You can do so many splits on espn.com for a player's stats that no one is going to look great all the time.

No, I was addressing the claim above that Joe wouldn't use Sexson as PH for Betemit (I think it was Betemit; I forget the situation now) because that meant poor A-Rod would have to play in the field for a whole inning or two if the game went into extra innings. (That was the claim above.) Give him an extra day at DH later in the week then. Go for the win now that you knew we were in a crucial situation of a tight game.

Great move. Now getting Marte actually made sense. I don't think Cashman did a good job over the off-season but I think he's done a good job during the season.

And batting with RISP is not a measure of how clutch a player is anyway. Runners can be in scoring position in close games (close situations) or blow-outs.
Well we gained a game on Boston. They lost 3 in a row while we lost only 2 of our last 3.

Now go get us at least one more starter.

if u make a switch & move the DH to a position u lose the DH for the rest of the game... that means if the game went into extra innings u would constantly have to pinch hit for the reliever.

What's your point? You'd rather lose the game in 9 innings than have to pinch hit for the reliever in extra innings?
i'm explaining the situation to you cuz i wasn't sure if u were clear on it... time to change ur tampon.
